Last Meal Requests

May 23, 2011 by Julie 88 Comments

Sometimes I welcome Mondays with open arms. Sure that whole work thang is a little pesky, but along with Mondays come routine and stability which makes working out and eating healthy a bit easier for me.

This morning Ryan and I hit the gym nice and early and completed 20 minutes of cardio on the elliptical before parting ways. While he wandered off to do some he-man lifting, I stuck to BodyPump.

Afterward we headed home to take Sadie on a one-mile walk before breakfast and shower time.

Breakfast

Today’s breakfast felt like a special treat!

eggs and waffles 003

I typically avoid making eggs for breakfast on weekdays because of the time, but when you really think about it, how much time does it actually take to fry an egg? Three minutes? Not even!

This little egg epiphany inspired me to make myself an egg-tastic breakfast! I topped two Van’s waffles with a dippy egg, salt and pepper and enjoyed a weekend breakfast on a weekday.

The dippy yolk was the best part. Not only is dipping just plain fun, but toasted waffles soaked in a gooey yolk screams comfort food to me.

Now I just need to grab a book and curl up on the couch for the rest of the day. Oh right… work.

Last Meal

Last week I read an article that detailed the last meal requests of some of the most infamous murderers and serial killers. I found it oddly interesting to read about what some people selected (like two pints of mint chocolate chip ice cream!) and the article got me thinking about what meal I would select if I knew it would be my final meal on earth. Kind of depressing to think about, but oddly intriguing, no?

After much thought and consideration, I decided upon the following:

Dinner: Houston’s French dip sandwich with a side of mashed sweet potatoes and crisp green beans… and crab legs.

houstons 017

Dessert: Houston’s hot fudge sundae with a slice of my mom’s homemade red velvet cake on the side.

houstons 020

Now it’s your turn to get a little morbid.

What would be your last meal requests?

That article is really interesting!! I’d have to think about the dinner, but I think it would be some kind of fried seafood. Dessert is easy, though: the raw mint chocolate sundae from Pure Food and Wine. Seriously. It’s THAT good.

My husband and I were JUST talking about this last night. Funny you mentioned this!

    He’d pick pizza. < —- lame!

I'd pick a gyro from a really good Greek restaurant. For dessert – probably a cookies n creme cupcake from Sweet! Or two. Or three.

    must I go on? 🙂

I’d want either a big plate of breakfast foods: french toast, eggs, biscuits/gravy or a big juicy hamburger with a baked sweet potato. Either meal would be followed by a large cookie dough/M&M blizzard from DQ 🙂

    Oh morbid AND fun!

Appetizer: smoked salmon from Houston’s (you and Ryan have GOT to try that!!)
Dinner: I would have the Seabass with lentils and wilted spinach from North.
Dessert: A Giant piece of chocolate chip cookie cake from the Great American Cookie Company!

Ahhh! I’m sooo glad you call them dippy eggs because whenever I say that my boyfriend yells at me and tells me they are not dippy eggs, that dippy eggs are soft-boiled eggs. Humph. I think not!

So last meal, funny story. They did this at a phillies game where they showed all the players on the big screen talking about what their last meal would be. (go phils!) So I asked my brother what his would be-popcorn shrimp-and he asked me mine. Now, at this time I was a strict vegetarian and didn’t eat any form of meat or seafood. But at that moment I thought, “if it’s my last meal, I’d say, ‘f*** it, give me a crabcake!'” from that point on I decided I was going to eat seafood if it was something I really wanted to eat. I didnt wanna deprive myself of one of my favorite foods. Now I’m pretty much a pescetarian. (although sometimes I lie at restaurants and tell them I’m a veggie so I can get the yummy vegetarian meals they always make but leave off their menu. Seriously good!)

There is this amazing restaurant in our area called R.L’s off the square. They have a grouper that is to die for. It’s groper with a cream sauce with a piece of friend green tomato on a bead of steamed cabbage. A-Mazing! Probably that or Oyster stew. And I am not really a dessert person (other than being a cupcake fanatic) but I would def. choose my mom’s chocolate cake.
