Last Meal Requests

May 23, 2011 by Julie 88 Comments

Sometimes I welcome Mondays with open arms. Sure that whole work thang is a little pesky, but along with Mondays come routine and stability which makes working out and eating healthy a bit easier for me.

This morning Ryan and I hit the gym nice and early and completed 20 minutes of cardio on the elliptical before parting ways. While he wandered off to do some he-man lifting, I stuck to BodyPump.

Afterward we headed home to take Sadie on a one-mile walk before breakfast and shower time.

Breakfast

Today’s breakfast felt like a special treat!

eggs and waffles 003

I typically avoid making eggs for breakfast on weekdays because of the time, but when you really think about it, how much time does it actually take to fry an egg? Three minutes? Not even!

This little egg epiphany inspired me to make myself an egg-tastic breakfast! I topped two Van’s waffles with a dippy egg, salt and pepper and enjoyed a weekend breakfast on a weekday.

The dippy yolk was the best part. Not only is dipping just plain fun, but toasted waffles soaked in a gooey yolk screams comfort food to me.

Now I just need to grab a book and curl up on the couch for the rest of the day. Oh right… work.

Last Meal

Last week I read an article that detailed the last meal requests of some of the most infamous murderers and serial killers. I found it oddly interesting to read about what some people selected (like two pints of mint chocolate chip ice cream!) and the article got me thinking about what meal I would select if I knew it would be my final meal on earth. Kind of depressing to think about, but oddly intriguing, no?

After much thought and consideration, I decided upon the following:

Dinner: Houston’s French dip sandwich with a side of mashed sweet potatoes and crisp green beans… and crab legs.

houstons 017

Dessert: Houston’s hot fudge sundae with a slice of my mom’s homemade red velvet cake on the side.

houstons 020

Now it’s your turn to get a little morbid.

What would be your last meal requests?

My “death row meal” as they call it, would be Roscoe’s Chicken and Waffles. SOOO good but so bad for you!

Definitely a hot fudge sundae for dessert. For dinner, gosh I have no idea- a buffet!

This is a hard one because there are so many foods I love! I’d probably have pasta from Rome or kimchee fried rice from Honolulu for dinner. And definitely a couple large scoops of dark chocolate gelato from Chocolat in Milan.

I always have such a hard time picking a “last meal”!! I think maybe something involving pasta and shrimp as an entree, with lots of thick hearty bread, and gosh, there are just WAY too many desserts I love to choose one!!

The real question is whether or not we would be enlarging our stomachs to accomodate our last meals.

I think I’d want my last meal to be a buffet of all my favorite foods. Lots of breakfast, maybe a steak, and huge dessert station. That way I could have a little bit of everything.

    Last meal request hmm 🙂

Starter: sushi handrolls and wakame salad

    Entree: Belgian fries with mayonnaise

dessert: Italian gelato (straciatella with chocolate sauce and chocolate ice cream)

    snack: peanut butter tablespoons

    I guess I went to far :p

my last meal…oh that’s such a hard choice! I’d say a corned beef sandwich from Hershel’s in the Reading Terminal Market in Philly…and bread pudding for dessert! Oh, and a loaf of garlic bread…AND some fruit salad. and and and and…I could add much more!

Hhmmmm… that’s kinda a tough one. I am not sure what I would eat?? I guess my dessert of choice would be tirimisu. Love that stuff.

Oh my goodness… it kills me how much you can get done in the morning! What time to you wake up? and then what time do you have to be at work? I am always rushing out the door grabbing a protein shake in a can before I leave.

Please do tell your secrets for those of us who are not morning people…

I love this question! It’s so much fun to read everyone’s answers.

I’d have to say a bbq bacon cheeseburger with sweet potato fries and a side of baked (crispy breadcrumb topped) mac-n-cheese. For dessert I’d have to have a big ooey gooey brownie sundae.

Sadly no veggies will be consumed during my last meal. 😉

That is probably the hardest question for me to answer, being such a foodie! I’d have to go with pizza even though it’s so typical..it’s my treat every cheat day (sunday)…ans for dessert… a big scoop of peanut butter topped with cool whip and sprinkles!

This is a tough one! As boring as it sounds, I would probably choose pizza as my last meal. I love it that much! For my last dessert, I would definitely go with my grammy’s chocolate peanut butter cake with a huge scoop (or two, or three) of Ben & Jerry’s Chubby Hubby ice cream on the side. (Can you tell I’m more of a dessert person than a dinner person?)

Oh, this is such a hard question!!! I’d go with a variety of sushi, with a side of Kraft (blue box) macaroni and cheese. How 6-year old of me, I know! Haha!

Dessert? Probably funfetti cake… with cream cheese icing.

I am against the death penalty, and in college, I was involved in helping overturn convictions of innocent people on death row. My work often lead me to think about what my last meal would be, and how last meals may or may not reflect a person’s being.

I encourage everyone to read and learn more about the death penalty in America. I especially recommend Sister Helen Prejean’s book “The Death of Innocents.” It’s a topic not often discussed, and it somewhat amazes me that the penalty still exists in this country when it has been banned in nearly all other developed nations.

Houston’s veggie burger (my absolute favorite!), sweet potato fries, and a vanilla cupcake from Cami Cakes, my favorite cupcakery in Atlanta.

I would totally have that chicken fried steak and gravy along with a baked potato all the way! I havent had a chicken fried steak in about 16 years now!!! when i found out how many grams of fat (not to mention the calories) were in one with gravy (60) i swore them off.

it would have to either be one from Dirtys (which is no longer around) or from Barbeque Inn.

Desert just needs to be as much mint chocolate chip ice cream that i can consume without throwing up after eating the above dinner.

Really tough decision!!! I’m debating chicken tikka masala, sushi, and some sort of appetizer sampler haha. OR honestly, I could be happy just eating dessert – I’d have to go with a huge sundae with a hot brownie and tonsss of whipped cream!

If it’s my LAST meal and I’m on death row … Calories be damned!

Starter: Lobster bisque (with LOTS of chunks in it)

    Entree: Cajun-spice rubbed Salmon
Mashed potatoes w/real butter, goat cheese and lemon pepper
    Steamed asparagus

Dessert: cupcakes from RazzleDazzle cupcakes in London . Ontario
    – Red velvet. Key line. Chocolate Hazelnut. Lemon poppyseed.
….there will be a hidden capsule of cyanide in there so I can die on my terms!!!

There’s a book out called LAST SUPPER that chronicles the last meals of many famous chefs … Fascinating!

Definitely my mom’s Italian feast – chicken parm, spaghetti, meatballs and sausage. And perhaps a side of ziti or lasagna. Oh and a giant slice of chocolate cake with vanilla buttercream for dessert with a glass of milk. Obviously.

My last meal would be a big stack of my Mom’s pancakes(one is the size of a skillet!) smoothered in melted peanut butter and hot syrup. My sides would be lots of fresh fruit and cool whip. Dessert would be a bowl of ice cream(with TONS of mix ins) bigger than my head. I would be so stuffed, i’d feel like I would burst! 🙂

Houstons sundae is hands down the BEST hot fudge sundae … ever! Although their apple crumble could tie for the lead – if you haven’t had it yet, it’s a must try!

I would have to go with a meal mostly from Saltgrass Steakhouse::

    Tortilla Soup (Saltgrass)
Oven Roasted Chicken Breast with a slice of Pepperjack cheese with honey mustard on the side (Saltgrass)
    Sweet Potato fries (anywhere!)
Small piece of home-made Pecan Pie (Saltgrass)
Small piece of choc pecan pie on the side (My Aunt Margie’s recipe)
Small scoop of Sea Salt Caramel Gelatto (Pacuigo)

I’m super hungry now! lol.. Runners up–
Pei Wei’s Sweet and Sour chicken with spring rolls
Ghengis grill bowl with chicken and lots of veggies!

Well that would be a hard one. I have two choices but please do not ask me to pick which one, cause I say I get both. It would have to be my ‘one hit wonder’ enchiladas and my grandmother’s spaghetti casserole. My enchiladas or so good I insist on making them for my own birthday despite all the work it takes. My grandmother’s casserole I never can get enough. She is always telling me to leave some for my hubby. If he doesn’t grab any the first night it’s in the house it won’t be around the second night cause I will eat it for breakfast, lunch and dinner.

I would get some sushi with Olive Garden breadsticks as an appetizer, followed by some pancakes as a main course, and cupcakes! Or maybe screw everything else and get me a dozen cupcakes from a reallly good bakery.
How do you make dippy eggs?
