Let the Wedding Mayhem Begin

March 4, 2014 by Julie 48 Comments

I feel like I can’t properly recap my day because it’s full of top secret wedding stuff, but I’ll do my best!

After working through the morning and eating a quick lunch in the break room (we had free subs today!), I stopped by the alterations shop for a fitting. `

(Sorry for the super-vague picture, but I don’t want to reveal too much!)

My sister did her best to find affordable bridesmaid dresses online for everyone which was so thoughtful and definitely appreciated, but unfortunately the seams of my dress were a little off and it pulled in an awkward way across my stomach. Last week, when I brought it in, the talented woman at Alterations Unlimited made me laugh when she ripped my dress in two and said said, “This is an internet dress, isn’t it?” Yes, yes it is!

She put the dress back together and it looked so much better when I tried it on again today. She pinned it so it fit my body and will make the final alterations tomorrow. Ryan is going to pick it up for me on his way to St. Augustine for the rehearsal on Friday. (I totally trust the woman doing my alterations, so I’m not worried about not trying it on again. She’s done all of my other bridesmaid dresses and they turned out well.)

With the bridesmaid dress dilemma solved, I headed home, packed a bag for the festivities ahead and rounded up the rest of the things I’ll need for the wedding. As I started loading my car, I had to laugh when I looked over at the passenger’s seat and found Sadie looking at me with her pleading puppy eyes.

Ryan and I always joke that Sadie’s mission in life is to not get left behind. She seemed awfully happy when she realized she was coming along on today’s road trip!

Julie and Sadie

Sadie’s not the best conversationalist, but she tolerates my singing without complaining, so I give her rave reviews as a road trip buddy.

Road trip snacks included these sweet chai spiced yogurt almonds.

So addicting!

Once I made it to my parents’ place, wedding mayhem began! I worked on a project for the rehearsal dinner and my mom, sister and I went over the wedding day timeline. It’s all coming together!!

Also, those almonds look like the PERFECT road trip snack. Especially if you’re going solo, because I doubt anyone would want to share those. 😉

Do you alter all your bridesmaid dresses? I never have before because I don’t want to spend any more than I have to on a dress I’ll only wear once! But I’m sure I would feel much more comfortable if I did alter it. I have a month to decide before my friend’s wedding. Hmmm guess I’ll go try on the dress again…

You are so lucky you have a great alterations lady who can put your dress back together! I had to hurry to find someone where I lived before my wedding for my rehearsal dress and it didn’t turn out quite as I wanted. Thankfully it wasn’t a big deal – as long as my wedding dress was perfect, and it was! 🙂

While reading your post I had a reply about adorable dog cheek “hugs” and then the almonds got me! chai yogurt almonds? Almond covered anything is my down fall. The other day I had LEMON white chocolate (I mean.. they said yogurt but could it be??) almonds.. They. Were. To. Die. For.

Not to be dramatic or anything. 😉

How exciting for you! I’m glad you got the dress figured out. My brother’s wedding was the week after Hurricane Sandy last year. I lived in NY at the time and had dropped the dress off at the dry cleaners on 32nd street. WELL, after Sandy, everything below 34th street lost power for days and was flooded. SO, I had to scramble last minute to find a nearly identical dress! What a good story. Then, of course, the hotel and rehearsal dinner lost power too…needless to say, somehow the weekend turned out perfectly! I hope your sister’s wedding does too 🙂

    And I love Sadie’s puppy dog eyes…
