Late this afternoon I received a wonderful email from Ryan. He had a special work lunch at The Capital Grille with coworkers this afternoon and bought an extra serving of their lobster macaroni and cheese for us to enjoy this evening!
Ryan is really good about bringing me treats home from work. He almost always brings me a slice of leftover birthday cake or a cupcake from a coworker’s retirement party, but lobster mac and cheese is a first!
For someone who will not be eating dessert throughout Lent, receiving an email telling me that lobster mac and cheese would be waiting for me at home when I got off work was just the thing I needed to make me forget all about dessert!
The lobster macaroni and cheese from The Capital Grille is unreal. It’s incredibly rich, creamy and flavorful and packed with big bites of lobster meat. In a word, it’s perfection.
I first tried the lobster mac and cheese on our very first (and only) trip to The Capital Grille on Valentine’s Day last year. Ryan and I both agreed that the lobster mac and cheese was the highlight of our meal and we’ve raved about it ever since.
Since Ryan actually enjoyed his own portion of the lobster mac at lunch, he let me go to town on the to-go box this evening.
It was just as good as I remembered and I ate the whole stinkin’ portion… Well, probably more like 75 percent because I shared with Sadie since I’m a sucker.
Though I’m not a calorie counter, to put the richness of this dish into perspective for you guys, it has 1,560 calories. Trust me when I say that it is worth every single one. It’s definitely a “rare occasion” dish, and I loved every last bite.
Unfortunately about halfway through the Ash Wednesday service at our church this evening, I started to feel a bit ill. I think the richness of this dish really caught up to me. Phew! Even Ryan said he wasn’t feeling so hot this evening and he attributes his sicky feeling to his overly rich lunch.
I think it’s interesting that we can both put down sweets like it’s nobody’s business, but rich dishes like this really get to us! I wonder why that is? Any of you health smarties out there have an idea?
Now I’m off to not eat dessert and hopefully hop into bed early! I’m so ready for the weekend already…
