Mocha Coconut Frappuccino

August 15, 2011 by Julie 133 Comments

BIG discovery today, guys.

BIG.

Did you know that Starbucks makes a mocha coconut Frappuccino?

Judging by the responses I got to my Tweet about this discovery earlier today, yes you do.

Well, it’s a brand new flavor to me and I am basically in love.

mocha coconut light frappuccino 001

I ordered the light version of the Frappuccino late this afternoon and it tasted like a Caramel Delight Girl Scout cookie… or a Samoa, as some of you say.

caramel delight samoa

Quick poll: Are they Caramel Delights or Samoas to you? Caramel Delights all the way, bay-bay!

After working through the afternoon at Starbucks, I headed downtown for a meeting about an upcoming Orlando tech conference. I felt a little out of my element with all the talk about aps and start up technology businesses, but we’ll see where it goes!

On my way out of the meeting I stopped by Mochi for some fro yo for real reason other than me just wanting the creamy dessert.

mochi frozen yogurt

If you spend $5 at Mochi downtown you’re supposed to receive validation for parking in the garage. Well, apparently that validation only applies if you’re parked in the garage for under two hours, so I ended up paying $5 for frozen yogurt and paying $16 (YES, SIXTEEN DOLLARS!) for parking.

What a punch in the gut!

I got back to the hotel room in Ocala a little after 8:30 p.m. and am now off to slip into my pajamas and grab something quick to eat for dinner. I missed the hotel buffet (oh darn!), so I’m left to scrounge up a meal from the stuff we have in our fridge. I think that means dinner will be Greek yogurt with banana slices and a whole wheat bagel with peanut butter. That actually sounds delicious right now.

Samoas! That’s what they were called when I was a little girl so they’ll always be samoas to me.

Are those little tiny marshmallows I spy? Yogurtland doesn’t have that as a topping and I’d totally use it to make a s’mores yogurt!

$16 for parking is quite the punch in the gut. I think it may be a location thing because when I lived in S. Carolina we called them caramel delights but when I moved to Indiana we called them samoas. Samoa is the name printed on the box so I thought maybe I had just been saying it wrong the whole time. Enjoy your breakfast for dinner! 🙂

Totally nerdy, but we had a big debate about this at work a few years ago and I actually know why there is a discrepancy in the names between Girl Scout Cookies! Essentially, there are two different commercial vendors who supply them for distribution, Little Brownie Bakers and ABC Bakers. There is no standardization of the names, so whichever vendor made the cookies determines the name — LBB makes Samoas; ABC makes Caramel deLites! (the vendor is determined by your Council).

There have been complaints about a difference in taste between the two bakeries and the “same” cookies before.
(http://www.ohio.com/news/top-stories/girl-scout-cookie-fans-are-tasting-a-difference-1.84956). Because I work with a bunch of neurotic scientists who need to test every theory, we got a box of Samoas and a box of Caramel deLites and did notice that there was a higher caramel:coconut ratio with the Samoas, but the cookie was crunchier with the Caramel deLites.

Just thought I’d share some useless Jeopardy-style knowledge taking up space in my brain! 🙂 And definitely listen to the commenter who suggested the Keebler knock-offs…. because LBB is owned by Keebler! 🙂

    1) I found out about Mocha Coconut Fraps this spring and it’s been a SERIOUS problem!! Little fact, in case you didn’t know, this was a limited time only flavor in 2002.. Starbucks held some kind of poll online and everybody voted to bring this bad boy back!! And I thank them!
    2) Carmel Delights!! But they are called both depending on where in MN you live. My BF calls them Samoas. (Same BF that told me about Mocha Coconut btw.) Go figure.

My wife loves that drink at Starbucks! I’m more of an unsweetened iced tea and iced Americano guy myself (gotta cut down on calories somewhere) but I will admit that it is tasty. If they take it off the menu at the end of the summer, you can still ask them to make it for you, and if there’s someone on staff who knows how they will do so. (They’ll also make the winter drinks in the summer.)

    I NEED TO TRY THIS.

I may or may not have eaten an entire box of caramel delights (yes. not samoas) in one sitting before with my best friend in middle school. normal?

annddd I did my research a while back because I got sick of people correcting the names of the cookies. it’s a regional difference!

apparently, in the chicago/NJ areas, caramel delights and peanut butter patties (not tagalongs) are where it’s at. (and shortbread cookies. not trefoils.)
