More Surgery for Sadie

January 30, 2013 by Julie 196 Comments

If you follow me on Twitter, then you already know the deal.

PBFingers Twitter

I got a call from the vet early yesterday evening. I was surprised to hear from him since he said that he likely wouldn’t have the results from Sadie’s pathology report until the very end of the week. My voice perked up over the phone when I realized who was calling me, but the inflection in my voice was met with a rather serious tone and I immediately knew the pathology results our vet was calling to share were going to be a little scary.

Apparently they don’t know what Sadie’s little lump is and they want it completely removed. They think it is a kind of sarcoma, a type of cancer that develops from certain tissues, and want to do further testing.

I’m about to leave to take Sadie in for surgery this morning to get that freaking lump out of her. Ryan and I are keeping our thoughts positive. So many of you shared amazing stories in the comments section of my morning post yesterday (thank you!) and I know dogs have cancerous lumps removed all the time and live long and happy lives. I’m trying to postpone any worries I may have until I receive all the information from the vet.

It looks like the Cone of Shame may resurface later today…

Cone of Shame

I love that little girl.

I inhaled my breakfast this morning as I typed up this blog post.

All the best for Sadie and you guys!

One thing you could also do to help Sadie’s health is check her dog food. Avoid food that has soy and corn in it (often used even in expensive pet food); often genetically modified (GMO) corn and soy are used in dog food, and there have been clinical trials that these foods cause tumor cancer in rats (you can google those;). — so, better be safe than sorry. The blue buffalo brand has mostly animal protein in it, corn free (but make sure to check the ingredients list!).

    Again, all the best!

Good luck. Our yellow lab (who was 8 then i believe) had a lump on her leg that they said could be cancerous but because it was so big they were going to have to remove her whole leg. We said forget that, let’s just see how she does with all four legs…2 years later and she is still kickin!

We went through the same thing last year with our 3 year-old doggie. They didn’t know what the lump was (on his neck), and removed it. A year later he is just fine. Hoping all goes well with Sadie’s surgery. Being a doggie-mommy I know how scary it can be!

Try and not be too alarmed. My pup has gone through many of the same ordeals. He’s older now and although he does indeed have cancer now, which our vet told us he would have limited months left to live. Well my dog didnt take those words to heart and has lived many more happy years and some days he even has more energy than he did as a young puppy! Thinking of Sadie today! 🙂
