Mother/Daughter Day

October 16, 2014 by Julie 42 Comments

My mom is leaving early tomorrow morning, so I’m doing my best to soak up every last minute with her. I will actually be heading to Florida toward the end of next week, so I’ll see her again soon, but there’s something special about having her here with me in our new hometown. I just want to see and do everything with her!

Our day today began with a mother/daughter Jazzercise work out! Taking Jazzercise with my mom during her visit here has made me want to get more involved with my local studio. It really is such a fun work out and I always leave in a good mood.

After class, we drove to La Patisserie, a local family-owned bakery and café, for some sweet treats to bring home with us for dessert tonight.

La Patisserie Mooresville

La Patisserie

La Patisserie was highly recommended to me by both our realtor and one of my girlfriends, so I have high hopes for the pumpkin spice cupcake I chose for myself! (The fact that it isn’t already gone is some kind of miracle.)

On our way home, we got to chatting in the car and decided to go out for breakfast at a new-to-me restaurant. Sun Up Café is another restaurant I had been meaning to try thanks to a series of recommendations and I’m glad we popped in this morning.

I loved all of the natural lighting and our food was quite tasty!

The huevos rancheros was fabulous!

Once we were done eating, we ran a few errands related to the gallery wall I am hoping to complete today. I bought tons of frames at IKEA last week and have done my best to fill them with photographs, a beautiful picture of Sadie from a talented blog reader and other PicMonkey-made designs.

Gallery Wall Progress

(Sadie and her tennis ball have supervised the entire process.)

It’s definitely taking longer than I anticipated to get everything together, but I am hopeful we can get everything on the wall in my home office tonight and worry about filling the three remaining empty frames later.

One of our pit stops for the day took us to HomeGoods where we ended up leaving with a new dog bed and blanket for Sadie. As I’ve mentioned before, she’s such a baby about sitting or laying down on hardwood floors, so we got her a new bed and cozy blanket (she’s a burrower!) and she’s already a big fan of both.

Dog Bed

Now I’m in serious need of a shower before it’s time to head out to coach my Girls on the Run team! After practice we have plans to go out to dinner for my mom’s last night here and I’m looking forward to a night of good eatin’!

Have a wonderful evening, my friends!

So jealous of your mom time! I’m only about an hour away from my mom, but I still don’t see her near as much as I’d like to!

And holy NOM – those cupcakes look divine!

I am so sorry to hear this, Amber. I absolutely love German shorthaired pointers (we’ve actually toyed with the idea of getting one) and I have only heard good things about their sweet personalities. I know dogs are little members of our family so I am sending so many big hugs your way. Sadie is sending lots of licks your way, too!

My Mom lives so far away. I wish she lived closer so we could do more together. She usually spends part of the winter with me in AZ. It’s always nice to have her around for that extended time to make up for the rest of the year.

Shopping for my dog has to be one of my favorite things. Finding a cute dog bed that will fit his giant self is a whole other complicated story though. Glad to see Sadie is really nestling into her new home! 🙂

Oh, my goodness!!! My Abbey does the same thing! I’ll make the bed in the morning and come back minutes later to a big pile in the middle with a 23lb dog under the center of the mess! Blankets on the couch, bedding, her own blankets or bedding… just a dog shaped bump with a little nose sticking out. So cute!

Sadie is the cutest dog ever. I love her burrowing skills! My dog tries to burrow but he usually isn’t very successful, unless its a night in our bed, then he’s very successful (and jabs his paws into my back at the same time)…fun, fun stuff! <3 those fur babies!

I’m excited to see your gallery wall, once it’s finished! My husband and I created one above our sofa last year and it took FOREVER! We made sure to mix things up by including a greeting card, a section of a hiking map, a funky postcard, and some personal photos of epic adventures we’ve had. One thing that helped was tracing all of the frames on scrap paper and taping the paper shapes directly to the wall. We left them up for a week, moving them slightly each day, until we were happy with the whole look. We were able to come up with the perfect layout BEFORE attaching any frames to the wall! Good luck 🙂
