Muesli for Muscles

February 4, 2011 by Julie 34 Comments

What a great post workout breakfast!

Friday Breakfast

I topped a bowl of Greek yogurt with some Bob’s Red Mill muesli that I prepared last night and I just couldn’t get enough of it!

Muesli

I received this bag of muesli through a promotion with iHerb.com (more details and a fun giveaway coming soon!) and aboslutely loved the blend of rolled oats, wheat, rye, triticale, barley, almonds, date crumbles, raisins, sunflower seeds and walnuts.

My texture-lovin’ self was in heaven!

Eat Up!

The sunflower seeds and dates were my favorite addition to the mix.

Get a Good Look

The combination of fats, proteins and carbs from this breakfast made this breakfast a perfect post-workout meal. Muesli for da muscles! 😀

Workout

My workout today included 20 minutes of cardio on the elliptical before tackling a weights routine that looked like this:

Three sets of 15 reps of the following:

  • Step ups (15 lbs.)
  • Shoulder raises (10 lbs.)
  • Tricep dips (Bodyweight)
  • Bicep curls (15 lbs.)
  • Leg extensions (35 lbs., pausing for one second at the top)
  • Hamstring swiss ball curls (Bodyweight)
  • Crunches

After sweatin’ it out, Ryan and I ran into my friend Merri at the gym and headed home to our apartment where the three of us gathered Sadie for a 2.5 mile walk around the lake.

Great start to the day!

Off to work for the last time this week. Woo!

Sounds like a great workout Julie! I love Bob’s Red Mill products but haven’t tried the muesli yet. That’s a great idea to add sunflower seeds in. Have a fab Friday! 🙂

I fell in love with Muesli while studying in Germany last summer. While I did miss regular old fashioned oats, the museli was a good alternative!

O how I love textured cereal like that too! It looks so good and I don’t blame you for finishing off a box of cereal yourself in 24 hours (minus what Sadie ate)!!!

    Happy Friday!

My mother send me this youtube video about peeling potatoes ( she would).

I thought you may get a laugh out of it – who knew you didn’t need a peeler?

Funny story: I ate muesli all the time growing up, but only when we were spending time in France. It’s not really mainstream American food so I never looked for it in American grocery stores, and until I started reading blogs I thought it must only be available in Europe. Which reminds me that it’s been way too long since I had any- love the stuff!

Your breakfast looks delicious! What time to you start your work day? It is just so motivating to hear that you get a gym trip, a walk, and breakfast in all before work!

I have to be at work at 5:50 am when I work the day watch so it wouldn’t work for me, but maybe on my off days! Good for you for getting up and starting your day off right 🙂

What time do you have to start work? Just curious because you get an amazing amount of things accomplished before work. I only have time to get in a workout, and unfortunately I don’t have time to go back and eat (I really wish I did).
