My First Salon Haircut

August 27, 2011 by Julie 103 Comments

If you’ve been reading my blog for a while, then you know that I am basically the most low maintenance person in the world when it come to my hair.

I get $7 hair cuts from Great Clips (I always go when I have a coupon) and I’ve never colored my hair.

This past week I was talking to my mother about how “blah” I’ve been feeling lately. I feel like my hair falls flat and is just kind of boring.

I suppose that’s not hard to believe considering I only ever get a trim when I get a haircut and my hair is cut at one length across the bottom. I’m so adventurous! Winking smile

My mom suggested going to a real salon and speaking with a professional about the possibility of longer layers or a different haircut to add a little more oomph to my hair.

I made an appointment earlier this week for a haircut at J.Con in St. Pete.

After speaking with my stylist, Shelle, we decided to angle the hair around my face and do long layers in the back. I thought I’d feel nervous about doing something out of the ordinary, but Shelle made me feel confident that she wouldn’t do anything drastic and would keep my longer length.

Check out the new ‘do!

IMG_5704-1

Totally different, right!? Winking smile Okay, so it doesn’t look that different, but I think it will be fun to play around with the added layers. I just hope they don’t make my hair look even thinner!

When I arrived home from J.Con, I pinned my hair back to make Ryan think I got a bob. Muhaha!

He starred at me for a minute, smiled and said “You just pinned it back!” I get the feeling that he is a little attached to my longer hair. I’ve done the short thang before in middle school and it made my face look like a pumpkin, so short hair will not be seen on my head in the near future.

Breakfast

Today’s breakfast was a weekend favorite.

Pancakes!

IMG_5707-1

I made the pancakes using Fiber One pancake mix that my parents had on hand. I’m hoping the added fiber will give these lil’ cakes some staying power.

Off to enjoy my Saturday!

Be sure to follow PBFingers on Instagram and Facebook!

I'd love to connect with you! I am always so grateful when you let me know you tried one of my recipes or workouts and tag me in your photos or updates. Thank you so much!!!

It looks soo sooo good! I love the “piecey layers” look…my hair is super thick so it never looks quite right on me. But you are pulling. it. off.

I’m like you though, I always want the same cut and wait a really long time in between them!

Getting a new cut is SUCH a great way to mix things up – it’ll always grow back! The cut is super cute and layers might actually add MORE body to your hair!

I’ve actually been debating attempting your $7 trick – the $60+ cuts in NYC have been doing some serious damage to my wallet! :O

Haha I’m the same way – up until recently I only used what we call “Super Cuts” which is about a $10 hair cut. I’ve since learned that making the trip to a salon every once in a while is SO worth it!

    Your hair looks fab 🙂

I’ve had a horrible hair cut experience before so now I just cut my own hair. I don’t get that soft fresh cut hair feel though 🙁

I asked for layers and GOT a bob. It was horrible..I cried 🙁 It was right before homecoming too and all I wanted was a trim with some layers added. Your hair looks amazing and just right <3

I’ve done layers before but my hair grows like a weed so they only stay pretty for a few weeks, then you can’t even tell I had them! I love angles at the front too. I’ve talked to so many guys who say they “don’t care” whether a girl has short or long hair, but then the second a girl talks about cutting hers they tell her not to…

I really like the layers! I am low maintenance myself – I actually always cut my own hair. I layer it, too, but more to thin it as it is a little too thick to lie flat and play nice. As long as you keep a neat bottom layer of hair at the length of your choice, it’s fun to play with layers in hair on top and not difficult to do yourself. I use a razor for a softer edge so in case I make a slip it isn’t obvious.

    I love it!!

I used to be the same way with my hair and went months without getting it cut. When I did, I went to Hair Cuttery.
But I’ve started going to a real salon and getting regular hair cuts – it definitely helps to keep your hair healthy and looking good. I still haven’t ever dyed it though. I like the natural look. 🙂

I’m the opposite, I’m low maintenance with other things like shopping (hate it!) but I love going to the salon. Before being a SAHM, I used to go every 12 weeks. At first it was just a cut and then I started getting highlites. I have toned down a bit now. I actually tried out Great Clips because of you earlier this year and liked it!

Did you enjoy it enough to do it again? Your new cut looks great; you have gorgeous hair, regardless. I think I would freak out too if you cut it short. 😉 My husband is the same way about loving my hair longer.

Oy. I wish I could get $7 haircuts. My hair is out of control curly, and I only trust someone with a curly hair training background to cut it! I only get it cut twice a year, but it’s almost $100 each time. The price we pay, right? ; )

You & I are one in the same with our hair (hurr) Julie! I usually go in to Supercuts and just get a one length cut straight across.

And what’s even crazier is that I JUST did a post about my hair evolution yesterday! Great minds think alike?

I’m super low maintenance (as much as I can be) with my hair too. I like it to be mostly one length! It’s so funny, my bf notices if the stylist gets a little carried away with the trimming. I think its cute that boys get attached to hairstyles! 🙂

I have the same fine long hair as you and I too have angles around my face and layers in the back. I love it and I like when I have my hair in a pony tail or half up I have the option of keeping a few pieces out to sweep across my face or pin them back with a clip or headband when they bother me or when I’m sweating! Love your cut!

Have you ever thought about going short? Granted, it might also be different for you in regards to face shape. I have very fine hair, and if my hair starts to reach my shoulders, it just looks blah. I go short and it gives me hair a lot more volume. I actually cut off my wedding length hair the day after the wedding, and it looks so much better.

Looks great! I love my time at the salon, I feel like a lady of leisure. I drink coffee, I gossip, I read magazines, and I always leave feeling like a million bucks.

My husband is also terribly protective of my hair, and always insists that I never cut it. What is it with men and long hair?

Just so you know, you have opened a new chapter and you will never go back to Great Clips. Enjoy!
