Nicknames and Tempeh

October 25, 2010 by Julie 93 Comments

This morning as I logged onto my computer, something neat caught my eye.

Word of the Day: Juju

The Dictionary.com word of the day that showed up on my iGoogle page has special meaning to me!

(Side note: iGoogle is a personalized Google page that you can use to have a bunch of different websites or applications displayed on one page… Get it if you don’t have it. It’s awesome!)

Anyway, this particular word of the day, “juju,” caught my eye because it is the nickname that my dad gave me when I was little. He still calls me Juju to this day!

Seeing my nickname on my iGoogle page got me thinking about other nicknames I’ve had throughout the years. My past and present nicknames include:

  • Juju
  • Jules
  • JB (my initials)
  • Juboo
  • Juju-Bee
  • Ju
  • Lil’ Squirt (Ryan is “Big Squirt” and Sadie is “Dog Squirt”)

The Squirts (Wait... That Doesn't Sound Right...)

I know I have some other nicknames I’m forgetting, but those are definitely the most common.

Lunch

Lunch today was a little unusual.

I was intrigued by a box of Turtle Island Foods coconut curry marinated tempeh strips.

Coconut Curry Tempeh

I tried tempeh for the first time on pizza back in May when I met Meghann and I really enjoyed it. The texture really appeals to me and when I saw that the tempeh strips were on sale, I was sold.

Though the strips are meant to be sautéed and used in a stir fry, I used them in a simple sandwich.

Tempeh Strips

I topped an untoasted whole wheat English muffin with the strips and served it alongside a sliced green pepper and roasted, salted pistachios.

Green Pepp-ahhh

Oh Oh Oh... Pistachios... Oh Oh Oh

Monday Lunch

Now that I’ve tricked my taste buds into liking curry, I absolutely loved these tempeh strips.

They were very flavorful and pretty filling, too! One serving of the strips has 13 grams of protein. Not too shabby!

Tempeh, you may be devoured more often. Watch out! 😀

Question of the Afternoon

What is your nickname? (10 points to those of you with truly ridiculous nicknames! 🙂 )

Be sure to follow PBFingers on Instagram and Facebook!

I'd love to connect with you! I am always so grateful when you let me know you tried one of my recipes or workouts and tag me in your photos or updates. Thank you so much!!!

Aside from the usual Clare Bear, Cbrad, Clarey, my nickname is STOONBALL! My dad started calling me it when I was little because my middle name is Dunstan. That turned into Dunstoon..stoon…stoonball!
I used to hate it but it’s grown on me:)

Juju was a nickname my dad gave me when I was little! He would also sing the song, “Julie, Julie, Julie do you love me…”. My other nicknames are Farms/Farmer (My last name), Jewlzer, Jewlz, JuJu-bean etc. I think it is so funny that you posted this today because just yesterday I was saying how weird it is that our names are both Julie and how similar we seem to be! I am also going to pick up some of that shampoo/conditioner you use sometime today since my hair is seriously sooo thin!!! I’m excited to try it out. : ) I have been reading your blog for a couple months now and love it! Have a great day!

    My nicknames included:
Blondy most of the time (very blond hair),
Irenus (my middle name is Irene-and I hated it at the time).
However the worst of all was flower girl due to my friend seeing my flower underwear when we were dressing out in 6th grade for gym. Ughh! Good thing that nickname didn’t last long!

    Chubaka (don’t ask)
    Ovary (oh, high school)
and now that’s been shortened to “Ove” which several people still call me. Very mature.

i’ve had a lot of random nicknames but the most common one right now is what my husband calls me: prudence. it originated when i was a little girl in sunday school class. my parents were visiting my aunt & uncle’s church and i went to the kids room and apparently told the teacher that i was prudence. so the papers recorded that as my name and when my parents came to pick me up, they asked for sarah and were told that there’s no sarah here… oh do you mean prudence over there? ha, my sister loves to tell that story- and she wasn’t even born! so my husband calls me prudence or some variation (pru, prusicles, pru-a-saurus rex, etc.)

    -estoonkla
    -nornelia de las excelentelias
    -tusta
    -tusta de mi nusta
(all given to me by my poppa bear. all kind-of embarrassing. )
    -V.V.
-Borgi (BORE-gee, what my brothers call me)
    -Borg (short for borgi…haha)
-da bageenya (omg, don’t ask… this and the next one are also variations of borgi…)
    -da bacher-cher
-Lamb-bone (what my granny calls me)
    -Her Majesty. or Highness.

ironically enough, even though my name is virginia and my “assigned” nicknames are ginny/ ginger NO ONE has EVER called me those….i’ve only had made-up nicknames….minus “my official royalty titles. those are 100% REAL 😉

I’ve got some normals – Chrissy or Chris, then in high school it was occasionally C.Mo, Cammie, or Snowflake (that was only by my ex). And when I was a baby my dad called me Pebbles (like from the flintstones) but that fizzled out for some reason.

    BB

The last two one of my best friends made up.

Umm… My sister wasn’t able to pronounce “Becca” when she was little, so I was “Bubba.” 🙂
She and I were also Pinky and Stinky. Ironic, because she hates the color pink. Lol!
My dad also used to call my sister and I Fred and Barney, after the Flinstones characters. Other random ones, too.
Bookworm, Munchkin, Sweetie (that’s Mom’s name for me), and Babycakes. Which I find awkward, but I let him use it anyway. 😛

My dad calls me these names in sequence:

La rachelle lavotia low-vey rachel claire

Low vey is actually the word “love” but in second grade I wore a shirt that said LO on the top and VE under it, which created low-vey.

and my brother calls me rachellie!

My dad also graciously named one of my middle school friends Hey Hey Julia after the Robert Palmer song. Onnly my daddy 🙂

My husband speaks spanish fluently, when we started dating I was trying to be cute and called him “Papafrito”…thinking it was cute like the spanish “papi”…well I ended up calling him a frenchfry. After a good long hour laugh at my expense i kept calling him Papfrito and he dubbed me as Mamafrita. 13 years later we dropped the mama and papa and now we are just Frito & Frita. =0)

I have a lot of nicknames:
    Almost everyone calls me Vane
My sister calls me Banana, or Vanessa Mayonessa (mayonessa is spanish for mayonaise)
    My mom calls me Vanienie.
My hubby calls me Chiquita (“little one”) or Niqa. Niqa is made up because he used to call me Niña, which is little girl in spanish but when he texted me the ñ wouldn’t translate and it’d revert to a q and it just stuck.
