One Workout Away from a Good Mood

March 8, 2011 by Julie 61 Comments

In January I published a post all about exercise mantras. You guys submitted some awesome mantras that have really stuck with me. This morning, I used the mantra submitted by Cynthia to get my butt to the gym.

You’re just one workout away from a good mood.

I woke up feeling crabby and a little out of sorts. I remembered Cynthia’s mantra and walked to the gym determined to flip flop my mood.

About 20 minutes into my workout, I noticed myself gettin’ into the music blasting on my iPod. I was sweating and kickin’ my butt and feeling 10,000 times better.

I will definitely keep this mantra in the back of my mind on days when I’m feeling out of it or just plain grumpy (not grumbles 😉 ).

My workout today looked like this:

  • 15 min. run
  • 5 min. incline walk
  • 10 min. stair master
  • 20 min. elliptical

I hopped around from machine to machine to fight boredom and this workout flew by! Gotta love cardio hodgepodge workouts.

Breakfast

Breakfast this morning included a new little treat.

Funky Monkey

Funky Monkey freeze-dried fruit! I received three packs of the snacks from the company to sample and couldn’t wait to give them a try because of this…

The Stats

Do you see the ingredient list!? Freeze dried pineapple and guava. That’s it.

Snack Time

The bits of fruit were crunchy and so sweet! I actually double checked the ingredient list because I was convinced there had to be added sugar. But no! The fruit almost tasted crystallized. I loved every flavorful bite.

I ate most of the pineapple and guava pieces straight out of the bag but managed to save a few to sprinkle on top of my morning yogurt bowl.

Yogurt Bowl

In the mix:

  • 2% Chobani Greek yogurt
  • Fresh blueberries
  • Sweet potato puffs
  • Chia seeds
  • Funky Monkey pink pineapple pieces

Yum

The texture freak in me was really feelin’ all the different textures in this bowl.

Off to work!

Oh and be sure to stay tuned because a giveaway involving Funky Monkey snacks is in the works! 😀

Be sure to follow PBFingers on Instagram and Facebook!

I'd love to connect with you! I am always so grateful when you let me know you tried one of my recipes or workouts and tag me in your photos or updates. Thank you so much!!!

Your breakfast looks yummy! I have had another brand of freeze dried fruit(can’t remember the name) before that made apples with cinnamon and they were really good! Would love to try the pineapple, though!

Love that mantra! I used the same type of thing to get myself to the gym last night. I was feeling down and didn’t want to workout at all, but once I got on the treadmill I almost immediately started feeling better!

Workouts are definitely a quick fix for a bad mood, huh? Those dried fruits look so tasty! I have trouble not eating a whole bag of something like that, so I usually don’t buy it. I need to work on my self control–I seem to be having a mindless eating moment right now!

I tend to find that it’s always hard to get yourself to workout (esp in the AM), but once you’re there and sweating and giving it your all, it’s so worth it! I found that to be true this morning! Hope your mood only continues to improve today! 🙂

I had such a similar experience this morning. I don’t often comment on the fitness topics because quite honestly I have a one track mind (food) but it was a little bit of a struggle to get out of bed and to the gym this morning. As I was lacing up my sneakers I kept saying to myself, ugh, don’t want to do this. But then I thought about faking it till you make it. I forced a fake smile on my face and said out loud, I want to DO this! Awesome spin class and weight training later, I feel fantastic. Yay for workout mantras.

This mantra was the definition of my life yesterday. I woke up and had too much homework to get done before class so I couldn’t. I was in SUCH a negative place it was ridiculous. There was not one positive thought that went through my head. So I laced up my shoes and hit the gym mid-way through they day and knocked out 5 miles on the treadmill…turned my whole day around!

Funky Monkey snacks are delicious, but the sugar content is insane. I actually got really jittery from eating the bag I tried. I couldn’t stop shaking!

All of my workouts are cardio hodgepodge. It’s the only way I can not get entirely bored. 🙂

That fruit looks great! I’m a big fan of the dried mango from Trader Joe’s that’s called “Just Mango.” It’s honestly just mango – no other added ingredients. A lot of freeze-dried/dried fruit has added sugar. I’ll have to be on the lookout for this brand!

gotta love those items that are made from literally just a few (or ONE!) ingredient. not sure if you have adam’s (brand) peanut butter in florida (i live in oregon) but it has one ingredient. ONE! peanuts of course. no added sugar, salt, anything. it’s amazing!!! i know some of the other natural PBs have a couple ingredients but if you have adam’s there, you should definitely give it a try! so so good!

I was wondering if you consider the peanut butter bars as “sweets.” I’ve been cutting out “Sweets” as well before my wedding this Summer but I still like to find healthy options for a slight sugar fix from time to time. It looks like we have the same viewpoints on what we consider sweets to be!
