Pure Madness

March 9, 2015 by Julie 103 Comments

This weekend was a pregnant woman’s dream weekend: Fun daytime activities followed by relaxing nights on the couch. Who am I kidding? That’s also my ideal weekend even when I’m not pregnant.

Our Friday night in included pizza from our beloved Brooklyn South and an embarrassing number of episodes of House of Cards. Fellow HoC fans, what do you think about season 3? Ryan likes it way more than I do right now, though it is definitely still holding my interest.

Pure Barre: Pure Madness Challenge

Saturday morning my day began with a Pure Barre class. During the month of March, all Pure Barre studios are encouraging Pure Barre fanatics to go all-in and take the Pure Maddness challenge: 20 classes in 31 days.

pure madness

I signed up and hope to do my best, but I’m already behind and know it will be hard to catch up! Since I don’t like to double up workouts and teach + take Pure Barre on the same day, it makes Pure Madness a little challenging… But I guess that’s the point of a challenge. I made it to a morning class Saturday, Sunday and today though, so I’ll consider that a victory, especially since my Pure Barre attendance during my first trimester was a little lackluster. I’m definitely going to listen to my body and not beat myself up if the challenge isn’t in the cards, but I figured I should sign up anyway to at least give myself a shot.

After Pure Barre and breakfast, Ryan and I took Sadie on a 40-minute walk around our neighborhood before cleaning up around the house for a few hours. It was much needed! I swear our kitchen was giving me the side-eye for neglecting it for so long. I need to get back into the habit of a quick 10-minute cleaning session each night. (<—A tip I picked up from The Happiness Project!) It makes such a difference.

Bowling + Baby Bump Update

Once we were done cleaning and eating lunch, we had plans to meet up with our friends Chandra and Kevin for some afternoon bowling!

Before we left, I had Ryan snap a quick baby bump picture that I shared on Instagram last night. I am starting to see some bump development/rounding!

18 weeks pregnant

Hi, baby!!

I threw a vest on over my shirt before we left the house because I feel like I am officially in the awkward stage of pregnancy where people wouldn’t really know I’m pregnant, but I also don’t look like myself anymore either. Is there a baby in there or just last night’s pizza dinner? (Probably both.)

Our bowling double date with Kevin and Chandra was great!

chandra and kevin

These two are so much fun and we had an awesome time hanging at the bowling alley for over three hours.

The four of us had to wait about an hour for a lane due to a billion birthday parties, so while the boys went into the arcade to play a bunch of games, Chandra and I chatted over fries, a chicken quesadilla and pretzel bites.

arcade huntersville

bowling alley food

When Kevin and Ryan came back to join us, they gave us their cards with all their arcade points to redeem at the prize counter and Chandra and I returned with candy because candy = The best prize!

watermelon airhead

I picked up a White Mystery Air Head for Ryan and I’m pretty sure I haven’t seen him that excited in several days. Love that flavor!

We bowled two games and Chandra and I were both a little too pumped when we managed to break 100 during game two. Victory!!

bowling scores

(Side note: I cannot remember the last time I went bowling and we entered in our real names on the score board. We are five years old.)

Sunday

After a morning out and about (Pure Barre + brunch with Ryan in Davidson + a trip to Lowe’s), Ryan and I spent most of our Sunday outside walking with Sadie and inside working on projects around the house.

toast cafe davidson

The nursery is coming along slowly which is just fine with me since my only real goal is to have it mostly done before my tentative baby shower date in June. I have no idea what kind of crib to get or what glider chairs are the most comfortable/practical, so if you have any suggestions, please let me know! I haven’t done any research yet, so I’m an open book.

Now it’s time for me to shower and meet Ryan at the doctor’s office for our 18-week anatomy scan ultrasound!!! Even though we already know the sex of our little one, I’m looking forward to seeing our baby again and hearing the sex confirmed since we found out rather early. I’ll be sure to share the news with you guys this week!

Have a great Monday!

I'd love to connect with you! I am always so grateful when you let me know you tried one of my recipes or workouts and tag me in your photos or updates. Thank you so much!!!

YAY for baby bump! Precious! And that night of bowling sounds like a blast – we went bowling with a good couple friends of ours a few weekends ago and it was so much fun, I felt like we were back in high school for a second!

What a fun weekend! I was able to do pure barre for the majority of my pregnancy (just stopped a couple weeks ago) and it always felt wonderful! It’s funny, I always hated doctors appointments but since being pregnant, I look forward to them, so fun!

My fiance loves bowling and is really good at it..his high score is over 240! I’m also happy when I can bowl over 100, so it’s a bit embarrassing to bowl with him! He’s always trying to give me tips about where to stand and how to aim, but I still manage gutter balls when I try my best.

Hope you have a great week!

Bowling is always so much fun! I always get excited when I break 100 as well!

As for House of Cards, I just finished it this weekend with my boyfriend and in true Netflix series fashion, all I have to say is Holy Smokes!! I had the same thoughts about the season being slow and not as intense as the other seasons during the first half of season 3. I don’t want to spoil anything so I will say keep watching, it gets better! We ended up staying up way to late to finish season 3 last night because we wanted, and needed, to know what happened!

    Have a happy Monday 🙂

So so excited for you!! I cannot recommend a gliding recliner enough for the baby’s room. My sister told me I “HAD” to get one and I am so glad that we did. I could sit in that dang chair all day long and have spent a few nights sleeping in it with our precious baby. We got ours at BuyBuyBaby. It is amazing!

Long time reader, here, and mom to an 18 month old little lady. The glider for my daughter’s bedroom was one of our last purchases. At the time, we were so caught up with how expensive preparing for a baby is, that we went with a “more reasonable” chair. WRONG! Make the investment into a good quality glider. I prefer the ones that look like arm chairs. When registering, I stalked old registries from my friends on various websites. Learn from others! Oh! And I highly recommend the book “Happiest Baby On The Block”. Life Saver!! Best of luck to you and your family.

I would say definitely register for a crib that converts to a toddler bed and then to a big kid bed. It will save you a lot of money down the road! Something like this: http://www.target.com/p/delta-bentley-s-series-4-in-1-convertible-sleigh-crib/-/A-14371974#prodSlot=_1_6

I completely understand that awkward stage of pregnancy. I am in it now at 19 weeks. I have one shirt that you can see a bump forming but the rest of my shirts you cant see anything and if you did, it looks like I ate a thanksgiving dinner or something. My coworkers in my immediate office know, but many people I work with still have no clue. Have you felt any kicking yet? That is the weirdest and most amazing feeling! I am more of a “hippie” mom. I co sleep and make my own baby food… etc.
I would recommend a recliner instead of a glider, if you have the space. That way you can bring up your legs to rest the baby on and recline while feeding so you can sleep a little.
This is a hot subject just because of suffocation, but I believe that God gave mommies a 6th sense about where the baby is and what is going on.

Congrats! My son (first child) is 8 weeks old today- time flies, and I actually somewhat miss being pregnant!! But I will take him being here over being pregnant any day!! I debated for a while on gliders- we ended up inheriting a rocker/recliner from our neighbors, and I love it! It is very comfy, and there have been a couple nights that little buddy will only sleep when being held. On these nights, I have been so thankful for the reclining aspect of the chair- there is no way I could sleep upright!

Sounds like a great weekend! Bowling is so much fun as an adult- I also went this weekend, and none of my friends put our real names in either- and we’re all almost 30. My boyfriend was put in as Mr. Ford (since that’s my last name), and I was put in as “The Canadian” (since I live in the UK). Our other friends were Pumpkin Head, and Learner’s Driver (as my one friend just totalled his car). There’s something about bowling that makes you remember being 13 and act in that same adolescent way.

You look great! I love looking back at my baby bump pictures. It is funny, one day I could hardly tell I was pregnant and then it seemed almost like magic that the next I had a baby bump! It happened about 23 weeks!

As for a crib, I would say spend as little as possible because they are all going to look run down (teething, playing, coloring) before you know it. We spent $300 on a Delta convertible crib and I think it has held up really well. But, I am glad we spent $300 as opposed to $700-800 on the speedy ones. I have also heard great things about the Ikea crib and it supposed to be very reasonably priced. Anyway, newer cribs are all going to be safe because of the federal guidelines.

Your weekend sounds great! And I swear somewhere between 21-22 weeks for me, the bump came to look like an actual baby bump. I never really understood how you could not be showing much one day & so much the next, but it really is true!

We are in the process of decorating our nursery, and our glider is actually getting delivered today. We ended up ordering the Lane Kids Regal Grande Upholstered Swivel Glider in gray from Amazon b/c we wanted something that looked more like a recliner/chair than a glider so that could potentially be used in our basement at a later date. I can’t review it yet, since I won’t get the chance to sit in it for a few more hours-but I’m really looking forward to checking it out.

It can be overwhelming to look at all the choices. I’m glad my husband is more decisive than I am. And getting advice from the parents who have been there is a great help! I know my registry list will be easier to make thanks to the advice I’ve gotten from others!
