Rainy Memorial Day

May 28, 2012 by Julie 39 Comments

I think many of us in the southeast United States are in the same boat today and have been enjoying a very rainy Memorial Day thanks to Tropical Storm Beryl.

Since our original plans for the day were rained out, Ryan and I basically bummed around the house all day.

I took some time to go through my closet and picked out a few clothing items and purses to bring to Plato’s Closet.

IMG_0472-001

Hopefully this pile of treasures will earn me the big bucks! I’m crossing my fingers for $3.00.

Even if I don’t get any money for the clothes from Plato’s Closet, it was clearly time to get rid of this skirt…. excuse me, skort.

IMG_0471-002

I’m pretty sure 27 is far too old to wear a skirt with Hollister written across the butt. Eek. I’m not sure why I’ve held onto this skirt from high school. I’m going to pretend like it was hidden in the back of a drawer or something and has simply gone unnoticed since 2001.

Hike + Dinner

Ryan, Sadie and I managed to get out of the house during one of the short reprieves from the rain after lunch and went for a two-mile walk on the nearby hiking trails.

We spotted the baby gator again!

IMG_0450-001

And another larger gator!

Once we arrived back home, we checked the local movie listings to see what time The Five Year Engagement was playing, but it wasn’t playing anywhere in Ocala! Didn’t that just come out?

Apparently it was a swing and a miss with the Ocala folks. Bummer. We ended up watching a movie at home while waiting for the chicken Ryan put in the crock pot earlier today to finish cooking.

When it was cooked thoroughly, we pulled the chicken and topped it with barbeque sauce.

The chicken was enjoyed with a side of zucchini sautéed in olive oil and sprinkled with garlic salt. I topped the zucchini with goat cheese for an extra punch of flavor.

We’re hoping to top off our holiday weekend with a trip to the self serve frozen yogurt place down the road.

See you in the morning!

Haha that skirt is awesome! 😉 I’m SO bad at throwing away old clothes, especially if I have an emotional attachment to them! I kept my blue camo jeans from 6th grade until I was in college because I was wearing them the day my best friend moved away!

TS Beryl has been a buzz kill! I’ve stayed in my PJs and worked on some DIY projects, mostly inspired by Pinterest. I guess the day wasn’t a total waste! Enjoy your night!

Oh I definitely get where you are coming from, I’m pretty sure I still have a skort or two from a few years back. And yum I love goat cheese + roasted veges, such a good combo. I’ll broil it all for a few minutes to get the cheese nice and toasty 🙂

That’s so funny. I just recently threw out a hollister SKORT. Do they even make them anymore?
I went through my closet this weekend as well and have a bag to take to Platos and a bag to Goodwill. Time to make room for new things!

Bummer about the rain! We’ve been enjoying some nice weather here in Atlanta. The hubby and I just went putt putt golfing, followed by some delicious ice cream. Good night! 🙂

I tried Plato’s Closet once and got maybe $8 for a BR dress that I only wore once! I have started taking my old clothes to a local consignment shop. In fact, last week I picked up $67 dollars from things I brought in! It may take awhile for the money to come in, but I will never try Plato’s ever again. I’m sure Ocala has one… I live in a small town and we have many!

I have a ton of clothes from highschool (8 years ago…) I just haven’t gotten rid of. None of them have fit me in at least 7 years not to mention I have a shirt with a leopard print superman symbol on it among other treasures…someday I’ll throw them away.

HAH such a throwback with the skirt! I definitely had my fair share of those from hollister and abercrombie- limited too as well if we are talking major throwback. I sometimes cringe looking at outfits I wore in middle school!

The Five Year Engagement is cute and funny (drags a little in parts but I still liked it a lot). Too bad it wasn’t playing! 🙁 Not sure if you’ve seen This Means War (Reese Witherspoon) but it’s really really good and SO funny. I didn’t expect it to be as funny as it was. Definitely one of my favorite movies so far this year. You should rent it next time you’re rained in.

My husband and I are in Jacksonville this week, preparing to move here later this summer, and we were “welcomed” by tropical storm Beryl. Yikes! Not the type of weather we signed up for. However, more sun is out today and we are looking forward to more tomorrow!

I am a lurker and never comment but I just laughed out loud at the Hollister skort. I lost my skort with a Bazooka gum logo on the butt about 4 years ago and I still think about it.

Despite the rain, sounds like a good time was had by all. I introduced my dad to Red Mango FroYo, which I’d call eventful. Today they had Peanut Butter Frozen Yogurt that was AMAZING. 🙂

We did the same exact thing for dinner, except our side was Caprese salad 🙂 absolutely love slow cooker pulled chicken! So easy. Try cooking it with Bone Suckin Sauce – its nice and thin so it doesn’t cook down too much.

    – think the movie is “gone” almos everywhere … It did diddly boxoffice!

If Plato’s doesn’t take it, the women’s shelter is a good place to take clothes…they always need them as most of the women arrive w/just the clothes on thr backs.
…I have a rule that every new piece of clothing that comes in means that two go to the shelter!!!
(And shelters often are desperate for tiny and plus sizes!!!

Does Sadie lk the gator? Eeeeeek
