Rainy Memorial Day

May 28, 2012 by Julie 39 Comments

IMG_0473-001

I think many of us in the southeast United States are in the same boat today and have been enjoying a very rainy Memorial Day thanks to Tropical Storm Beryl. Since our original plans for the day were rained out, Ryan and I basically bummed around the house all day. I took some time to…

Savory Salmon Oatmeal Hash

March 7, 2012 by Julie 43 Comments

salmon hash 008-1

Ryan and I have been all about one-pot dinners this week. Last night we dug into my favorite butternut squash wheat berry mock risotto. The night before that was a homemade chicken noodle soup kind of night. Tonight the one-pot meal theme continued as I set out to recreate the trout oatmeal hash dish that…

Semi-Homemade Valentine’s Day Dinner

February 12, 2012 by Julie 42 Comments

pork tenderloin 001

Ryan and I celebrated our Valentine’s Day last night because I will be heading out of town on Tuesday morning and we wanted to make sure to celebrate when we had time together. I said I wasn’t really in the mood to go out to dinner, so Ryan took control in the kitchen and made…

Giving Risotto a Go

May 10, 2010 by Julie 33 Comments

Whenever I see some form of risotto on the menu at a restaurant my eyes light up. I’m not quite sure why I’ve never attempted to make my own, but tonight seemed like a good night to give it a go. *Fantastic Recipe Alert!* I followed a Health.com recipe for shrimp and zucchini barley risotto…

50 Best Restaurants in the World

April 28, 2010 by Julie 28 Comments

Sometimes the simplest lunches are the most delicious. I am not a fan of regular hummus (it’s too bland for me), but roasted red pepper hummus is a whole different story. I first discovered roasted red pepper hummus when the lovely free sample lady at Publix offered it to me on a pretzel chip. It…

Breakin' Out the Grill

March 29, 2010 by Julie 18 Comments

Good news! The rain has finally decided to let up and the lovely spring sun is shining in Orlando again. Good weather = Grilling! For the first time in 2010, we fired up the grill to make tonight’s dinner… and by “we” I mean Ryan. The grill intimidates me. 😉 Do you grill or leave…

Instagram post 2193655309847019162_40044681 Busted out of the house last night for a Las Vegas themed holiday party! 🎉 Name that movie! 🐯👶🏻 #tigerslovepepper #babycarlos
Instagram post 2191873802065169562_40044681 Slow Cooker Holiday Mulled Wine: The simple, low-maintenance, crowd-pleasing holiday beverage you've been looking for to make for your next holiday party! 🍷✨ This is my go-to recipe because it's warm and comforting and just sweet and cinnamon-y enough to feel like a festive holiday drink. ⠀
⠀
Here are the steps:⠀
⠀
Throw everything into a slow cooker⠀
Allow mulled wine to warm up on “low” for an hour⠀
Reduce to “warm” and top with a sprinkle of thinly-sliced oranges and cranberries⠀
Walk away and enjoy your party⠀
⠀
And the ingredient list is simple, too! Find the full recipe on the blog here: https://www.pbfingers.com/slow-cooker-holiday-mulled-wine/⠀
⠀
Oh and please do not feel the need to splurge on an expensive red wine for this recipe! I once had a sommelier friend of mine tell me that when it comes to making mulled wine, simply choose a red wine you like to drink. It doesn’t have to be anything fancy but it simply has to appeal to you without all of the added ingredients that morph it into a deliciously sweet holiday favorite. For this batch, I made the Slow Cooker Holiday Mulled Wine with a $6.99 bottle of Wellsley Farms’ Cabernet Sauvignon from @bjswholesale. Once you pour it into the slow cooker and fancy it up with thinly-sliced oranges 🍊 and pops of cranberry, no one will know you used a bottle of wine that cost less than $7 in the recipe anyway! Enjoy!!! #ad #mulledwine #holidaydrinks #holidayrecipes #slowcooker

Instagram post 2188654049733389965_40044681 I know you don’t get to choose your family but if you did, I’d choose this bunch over and over again. 💚 Another great family mountain vacation in the books! 🍁🍂
