Real Man Shake

April 16, 2010 by Julie 35 Comments

Breakfast this morning was served in one of Ryan’s massive protein shake cups.

I felt like I was drinking a real man shake. 😉

Green Monster Man Shake

Ryan drinks several protein shakes a day out of these cups. He gets them for free when he buys exorbitant amounts of protein online, so we have about a billion of them.

Apparently I added an entire bush-worth of spinach to my green monster smoothie today because it was ginormous, as Buddy the Elf would say.

"Have you seen Julie's green monster? It's ginormous!"

Into the mix went:

  • Tons o’ spinach
  • 1 frozen banana
  • 1 scoop All the Whey chocolate peanut butter cup protein powder
  • Almond Breeze almond milk
  • 1 tbsp. peanut butter
  • 1 tsp. Bob’s Red Mill xanthan gum
  • 1 tbsp. cocoa powder

Green Goodness

It was thick, filling and, of course, terribly unattractive and green.

I know I’ve said it before, but I love the way I feel after downing one of these bad boys. Cheesy as it sounds, they make me feel alive! It’s probably all in my head, but I’ll take it! 😀

I'm Alive!

Workout

Today’s BodyPump class was emptyyy. Apparently no one was feelin’ the gym today, because there were less than half the amount of people who are normally there in class this morning.

I actually missed the energy of a packed class! I like the “we’re all in this together” feeling I usually get during such an early morning group exercise class and I missed it a bit today. Still, the instructor did a great job, as always, and I got a good workout. Success!

After Pumpin’ it up, I did 25 minutes of light cardio on the elliptical while reading about the latest celebrity trash. I think those celebrity gossip magazines are great gym reading material because they’re basically like picture books! Since it can be hard to read while working out, they’re a perfect fit.

Do you like celebrity gossip magazines?

I used to try and hide it, but who am I kidding? I love that stuff. Do I care that Carrie Underwood is engaged. Yes, I do. 🙂

Be sure to follow PBFingers on Instagram and Facebook!

I'd love to connect with you! I am always so grateful when you let me know you tried one of my recipes or workouts and tag me in your photos or updates. Thank you so much!!!

I think Friday mornings are a typical “skip gym” time for many…good on ya for going!!!

I never buy those celeb gossip mags but always indulge when at the hairdresser waiting…

    Have a great friday!!
    Fun weekend ahead?

I have to admit that I do like looking at those magazines. I’ll usually just look through them at the grocery store, or when I’m at the bookstore, but every now & then I’ll buy one, & then feel completely guilty for wasting $4 on trash;) I’m usually just looking at the pictures anyway!

I loveeeee gossip magazines!! And I especially love to read them at the gym, because they really make the time go by super fast. If I cover the machine’s screen with a towel like I see most people at the gym do, then I get more tempted to open it and look at the time. With the magazines, I totally forget about the time, calories burned etc…Love them! 🙂

I agree about Friday’s at the gym. I was the only person to show up for morning Kettlebell Class. Like you, I missed the energy of my classmates but still got a great workout.

I find it hard to imagine that there’s any morning where lots of people are motivated to get up and go to the gym. I’m not too in to the the gossip magazines. I’d rather spend that time on blogs. 🙂

I do love the gossip magazines and often watch e-news. I like to know what’s going on for some reason, but i do feel sorry for them being followed everywhere. They make millions, though, so I guess it’s a trade-off.

Have you seen these toilets?! They’re GINORMOUS!

I just had a GM myself this morning – deeelish! And I use those protein cups too – they’re the best for smoothies because of the wide spout thing. Trash mags all the way! Best gym reading material ever!

Love the GM! I need to try that PB Cup protein powder. I had one this AM too, but it was not as exciting as yours – I added Choc Amazing Grass, which makes it yummy too!

US Weekly every week, can’t get enough!

We have a plethora of those cups from my brothers’ Creatine days….he gave them up when he realized he’d rather get his calories from cheesesteaks than anything remotely healthy. I used to be OBSESSED with celeb magazines, but forced myself to stop when I realized how much I spent on them….it makes me waiting room time so much better when I have a whole stack I’ve never read!!

I always feel energized after a green monster too. So good! And I laughed at the Buddy the Elf reference. That is my favorite holiday movie.

And I love gossip mags for gym reading. Magazines are always better since they are easier to read with the shorter articles and you can fold them to keep them open (unlike books…boo!). I spent WAY too much money on celeb mags during comp prep. They kept me sane during all my cardio. I don’t buy them now since I mainly do classes for cardio and it saves money, but they sure are fun to read.

I need one of those big cups! My to-go drink container’s opening is too small and instead of pouring in a smoothie, I have to spoon it in.

My gym does not have pump on Friday mornings- there’s no early Friday morning class. There is one at 5 pm tonight. I’ll hit that one before we go for dinner.

The weather’s been nicer here lately so I think a lot of people have been working out outside. I prefer it when it’s a little empty. I get a little more space to move.

I can totally relate to feeling more alive after downing a green monster shake!! Yesterday, I actually mixed one up and brought it to a meeting with me…yes, I’m not ashamed of my new green monster passion! 😀 And I felt SO much more energized and healthy after downing it…wahoo!

Regarding your love for celebrity “trash” magazines, I’ll admit that I like them also! I try to avoid them, but somehow I’m always drawn to them if they’re available! Luckily, I stopped buying them to limit my dose of celeb gossip, but they are just so intriguing!
