Relaxing Crafting

August 22, 2013 by Julie 93 Comments

Aaand just like that, I’m back after an all-day training yesterday.

Once I arrived home in the early evening, I spent a few hours crafting away. (I’ll be sure to share the project with you guys soon!)

gold glitter

(Yes, that plate was leftover from last year’s Friendsgiving party.)

I know it may sound a little bizarre, but jamming out to my favorite Pandora stations and working on a craft project totally relaxes me. If the project is really difficult, then I can spiral into a world of frustration, but, for the most part, I really enjoy getting crafty.

Of course, many of my craft projects end up looking like this…

sheep cake pops fail

But at least I have fun working on them!

Breakfast

The highlight of my morning meal was Italian sausage.

breakfast eggs sausage spinach

After I sautéed onion and spinach in a pan with olive oil, I added sausage and eggs to the pan. Once the eggs were scrambled, I transferred the eggs and sausage to a bowl and served it with a toasted English muffin on the side.

This was quite a filling breakfast and I have a feeling it will easily hold me over until it’s time to eat my morning snack.

Off to work!

Question of the Morning

Crafting only relaxes me if I can do it without ripping my hair out. 😛 The best all-time relaxation for me is baking and eating half of the dough!

That is awesome that crafting relaxes you….it mostly just irritates me unless I am told exactly what to do. Hah!

The outdoors, leisure walking and cooking! The latter especially in the winter 🙂

Hiking and being outside relaxes me. Even if it is just taking a good book with me to the closest park, I always feel like it perks up my mood and helps me unwind after a busy day.

Doing chores is actually relaxing to me. Whether it’s unloading the dishwasher or vacuuming, I find it soothing! Strange but true 🙂

Running relaxes me, but so does watching mindless television. Really bad TV makes me feel so much better about my life and my situation!

A good book + coffee + a fireplace is the ULTIMATE relaxation for me 🙂 especially if it’s raining…which is often in Seattle

I love to paint as stress relief, as well as bake and lately it seems cleaning out closets is working too!

Scrapbooking…I could do it for hours and typically end up losing track of time. Especially with coffee in hand and jamming to Pandora.

I agree, I love crafting. I also do other “artistic” things to calm down like draw (with crayons, of course), or I have an “inspiration” wall where I just tape up things I find in magazines. They’re usually just pretty pictures, colors or quotes that catch my eye.

Crafting kind of stresses me out. I used to make everyone crafts for Christmas when I was little, but now I’d rather read a book or magazine to relax. 🙂

I totally feel you on getting crafty with some pandora (Ingrid Michelson or Fleet Foxes) for relaxation! I love filling notebooks with collages I make from old catalog/magazine/newspaper clippings. It’s soothing and you feel accomplished afterwards!

Crafting relaxes me too! And just doing stuff, like cleaning or organizing. If I’m stressed, you can bet my laundry is being washed and the kitchen was mopped! I’ve been on a smoothie kick all week 🙂

I just love cooking. When I can spend 3-4 hours preparing dinner for the rest of my family, I’m totally relaxed. This is limited to the weekends so during the week a good book is the solution.

While it’s not really a hobby lately I’ve been going on so many walks and it’s the most relaxing thing in the world. I could say “cooking” or “baking” but the truth is even with those things, I always work so fast and it’s not actually relaxing. Walks are the only thing that really slow me down. I do find it relaxing to cook a big dinner with a group of people, though. That’s always wonderful!

Reading really relaxes me. I also play piano when I just want to focus on music, but usually I just spend the last hour of my day reading quietly in bed before going to sleep.

I like crafting. And really it’s the first time I am -and will?!- ever admit it ! 😉 Sometimes, I remind myself of my mother -not that it’s a bad thoughts!- but makes me really feel like i’ve grown up -not that I care much-! However, I like crafting mainly bacause it makes me feel proud and commited AND because I know that someone -or a lot of people- are going to enjoy it, that I -maybe- will make them smile, been happy. And because of that, I enjoy crafting. 🙂
