Sarasota Mother’s Day

May 13, 2013 by Julie 62 Comments

I hope everyone had a wonderful weekend and that you were able to spend some time with loved ones.

Ryan and I spent the weekend in Sarasota celebrating Mother’s Day with his family.

Fagan Family

Isn’t Sadie the best at posing for group photos?

On Sunday morning we woke up a little after 7 a.m. and sipped on our hot mugs of coffee outside in the already hot and humid weather. I think it’s safe to say summer in Florida has arrived!

A big Mother’s Day breakfast was planned for 9 a.m. and by the time everyone arrived to dig into the delicious food, I was more than ready to eat!

Mother's Day Brunch

We had a fantastic feast of scrambled eggs, bacon, fruit salad, pecan danish and French toast.

IMG_1197

I started with fruit, a few strips of bacon, eggs and some pecan danish and went back for more bacon, danish, a piece of French toast and fruit.

Mother's Day food

IMG_1203

Everyone refilled their plates a few times which is how family gatherings at my mother-in-law’s house always seem to go. The food is always too darn delicious to stop at one plate.

IMG_1202

After breakfast, we meandered into the living room to hang out.

Sadie

At one point, Ryan and I sat down and started playing around on his mom’s piano which was a blast! We used to play the piano together at my sorority house in college and it was fun to play around again.

We’re both pretty terrible, but have a lot of fun trying! The only song I can play somewhat well is “The First Noel,” and I can only get away with playing that song one month out of the year. Ryan can play “Unchained Melody.” We’re both one song wonders on the piano, with the exception of the songs everyone can play like “Heart and Soul.”

Our weekend in Sarasota passed way too quickly, but it was so wonderful to spend time with family. We hope to head down to visit again soon!

Question of the Morning

  • Can you play an instrument?
  • What instrument do you wish you could play?

Be sure to follow PBFingers on Instagram and Facebook!

I'd love to connect with you! I am always so grateful when you let me know you tried one of my recipes or workouts and tag me in your photos or updates. Thank you so much!!!

I have played the piano for 13 years and absolutely love it. The one instrument I wish I COULD play would be guitar. There’s just something about a guitar that seriously can make me weak at the knees.

That breakfast spread looks soo delicious! Looks like a perfect weekend with family. Sadie is so cute in the picture sitting on Ryan! I played the drums for a little while growing up. I could probably still play a couple songs if i sat down at a set. Now i wish i could play piano- heart and soul is about the only one i know 🙂

I’m a trumpet player! I still do paid gigs. Between being a mom and my fitness soon to be career I don’t have a lot of time to practice but I am a member of a local concert band that rehearse weekly.

Sounds like a great way to spend Mother’s Day! I played the oboe and piano when I was younger, and wish I still had piano skills. I would also love to play the guitar. My brother plays guitar whenever we get together, and it is so much fun!

You should be proud of your piano skills- all I can play is “Mary Had a Little Lamb.” In fact, in sixth grade, I taught myself to play that song on phone keys. Pretty impressive, eh?

I can also only play one song on the piano: the beginning of Fur Elise. My mom is probably so mad because she paid for 5 years of piano lessons for me to come out and play the most common song only, ha.

    What a fun Mother’s Day!

I used to play the piano, but ditched it after a few years for choir. I thought I was soo clever because I would tell people (when they asked if I played an instrument) that I played the “vocal cord.” Needless to say, 13-year-old me was a creature.

I played the violin from 4th grade through high school, but kind of fell off in college since I wasn’t in the orchestra. Now it’s kind of just sitting around in the basement. A couple of years ago I made the new year’s resolution to pick it up at least once that year, but when I went to do that, the pegs were stuck and I wasn’t able to tune them properly so I just ended up plucking at the strings with it terribly out of tune.

Looks like you guys had a lovely Mother’s Day! I played the piano from first through sixth grades, and I can still figure out my way around a keyboard, but I definitely don’t know anything by memory, and I’m much better at right hand/treble clef playing and reading than left hand/bass clef. I also played the trumpet from fifth grade all the way through college graduation (which is why I’m so much better at reading treble clef — I’m way more familiar with it!). I’ve only touched my trumpet a couple of times since I graduated a year ago, though.

That sounds like a fun weekend. I started playing piano when I was five, and took lessons every year until I graduated from college in 2009. I’m now 27 (almost 28), and haven’t played in awhile, but I have a couple of songs that are burned into my fingers that I can pull out to show off (one being “Only Hope” from “A Walk To Remember.”).

That sounds like a fun weekend. Spending weekends with family is a lot of fun.

I took piano lessons as a kid but have forgotten it all, including how to read sheet music. I can play Pachabel Cannon in D from muscle memory though. I used to love that song and would sit and play it for hours on end. So needless to say my family hates when I sit down at a piano because they’re only getting one song and if I mess up (which usually happens) I start back over until I get it right. Ha!

I played the flute from elementary through high school – haven’t played in years. I also taught myself saxophone in high school & took up the oboe in college. I can play the piano a little bit, but have thought about taking lessons to really learn. Probably the one instrument I’d really like to seriously take up is the cello.
