Savin' Them 'Gs

July 29, 2010 by Julie 57 Comments

I’m sure you’ve heard people refer to money as “g’s” before, right?

If Only My Blog Paid Me Like This...

Apparently I’m not well-versed in pop-culture slang, because I never knew what exactly “g’s” stood for when referencing money. Just in case you’re a super-blonde like me and never knew, it stands for “grand” like $1 grand = $1,000. Somebody, somewhere just rolled their eyes into the back of their head (Likely Ryan 😉 ).

I hope you enjoyed today’s lesson… Or will forgive me for telling you something you already knew and thought was totally obvious.

Annnyway, I have always been a g-saver and constantly look for great deals and ways to save my money.

A couple of months ago my friend Merri sent me a text message that changed my life. (Okay, not really, but it was still a good little nugget of information that she shared with me.)

Did you know you can get a polish change instead of a pedicure for $10?

Nooo. Actually I didn’t know this.

Ever since I got that text, I haven’t splurged on a full-on pedicure. I’ve opted for a simple polish change on my toes, which still looks great, but costs less than half the price of a pedicure at most nail salons. Score!

Polish Change Lunch Break

Aside from the price, a wonderful thing about a polish change is that you can often get in and get out of the nail salon in 20 minutes. That means you may even be able to cram it into your lunch break.

That’s exactly what I did today. I managed to save even more time by bringing my own polish since I often take an inordinate amount of time selecting the perfect color.

Self-Timer at a Stop Light! What, What!?

O.P.I Shade: A True Aboriginal

I was in and out and on with my life in less than 20 minutes! Sch-weet!

Lunch

Since I have a long day ahead of me involving a flight to Chicago and our first night of bachelorette party fun, I wanted to be sure to enjoy a filling and nutritious lunch.

I opted for my favorite combination of noodles, Barilla mushroom and garlic marinara sauce, steamed broccoli and freshly chopping spinach.

Noodles + Sauce + Veggies

Apparently My Camera Focuses Only On the Most Nutritious Parts of My Bites...

Winner, winner, chicken dinner.

Noodle Boooowl

I also ate a Colby-Jack string cheese on the side that went undocumented.

Tonight

I am an antsy-pants  girl this afternoon! I just want my weekend of fun to start NOW!

Tonight I will be arriving in Chicago around 8 p.m. and we’ll be kicking off this wonderful bachelorette party weekend by doing Lord knows what. No one is telling me anything about the whole weekend, so I’m looking forward to having a good time at the hands of my wonderful friends. 🙂

I’ll try to keep the ol’ blog updated as much as possible while I’m in Chicago.

See ya from the Windy City! 😀

My bachelorette party was a long weekend in Ft. Lauderdale and South Beach – my girls were great and we had so much fun!

I’m all about saving “g’s” – don’t worry I didn’t know what that meant either, so thank you for teaching me something new. I’m about to go paint my toes with Koala Bear-y 🙂 I love the OPI names!

Safe travels to you! My husband and I actually had a joint bachelor/bachelorette party. Odd, I know! BUT, we were going to be moving across the country after we got married, so we wanted to spend as much time with family and friends as we could – so we got the most out of our parties. It was great!

I didn’t know that about “g”‘s haha. I am so clueless when it comes to stuff like that.

I did know about polish changes though and I always get them done on my lunch break. It’s so nice to be able to squeeze something like that in and not have to do it on my “me time”.

Have fun at your party! I definitely want to go on a trip for my bachelorette party. And I want NO male strippers. Gross.

No bachelorette party for the single girl, but I hope it’s just a fun night with friends – no craziness needed, just good memories. 🙂

My trick? Put polish everywhere around my nail and then clean it with a LOT of remover 🙂

My bachelorette party was awesome. 12 of my friends rented a goregous house in wine country in Central Cali and planned all the meals, games, and a special wine tour with a driver just for us. The final day was spent getting facials and massages and eating fresh fruits and cheeses and mimosas inbetween 🙂

You will a blast this weekend I’m sure! Enjoy it!

    Have fun!

My bachelorette party was a tour of the Texas wine country. All my girls and my mom and aunts came into to Austin and we stayed at this really nice old hotel downtown called the Driscoll. We rented a party bus that drove us to the hillcountry (about an hour away) and from winery to winery all day on Saturday then back to Austin for a night out on the town. It was great!

I messed up and drank too much at the pre-party lingerie shower so my bachelorette party was cut short because I passed out at dinner. The best part of the evening, I lost my keys so while we waited for my fiancé to come with the spare key, we drank mimosas on my porch made from gas station “champagne” and OJ.

My bachelorette party was awful. My friends took me to a country bar for the night. I like country music ok…but not to get my groove thang on to. They also took me to one of my least favorite restaurants. Blech! Lesson learned – don’t say you want to be surprised for your party bec you think your friends know you.

I always forget you can go in just for a polish change. I need to remember that. I hate painting my toenails.

Haha, spending G’s… In college my roommate and I had an ongoing debate about the lyrics of Jay Z’s “Big Pimpin’.” She thought the lyrics were “big pimpin’, spending G’s” and I swore they were “Big pimpin, spendin’ cheese.” Because apparently references to cheese or cheddar are also about money. Turns out, I was correct, Jay Z indeed says “cheese” in that song.
Have a GREAT time in Chicago! I will be there Saturday night 😀

My bachelorette party was such a riot! All of my girls threw me a lingerie shower and then we headed to the local downtown district and did a scavenger hunt. It was a hoot! Nothing too wild and crazy because I was the first gal in our group to marry and they knew whatever they did for me would be paid back ten-fold by the time they got married!

Have SO much fun! My bachlorette was awesome!! It was just back in May and my girls got an amazing suite in a hotel, we went to dinner, then went to a drag queen show in Boston! It was probably the funniest thing I have EVER seen and it was an amazing evening. I laughed so hard my abs hurt all weekend! My lovely ladies also had lots of surprises for me – my outfit was really cheesy but you only get to do it once, so make sure you enjoy it and take it all in! I just had my wedding a month ago and take my advice – just take a step back from everything and everyone at one point and just take it all in. These are memories that will last a lifetime!! Be safe and good luck in your half marathon as well!!
