Apparently I’m not well-versed in pop-culture slang, because I never knew what exactly “g’s” stood for when referencing money. Just in case you’re a super-blonde like me and never knew, it stands for “grand” like $1 grand = $1,000. Somebody, somewhere just rolled their eyes into the back of their head (Likely Ryan 😉 ).
I hope you enjoyed today’s lesson… Or will forgive me for telling you something you already knew and thought was totally obvious.
Annnyway, I have always been a g-saver and constantly look for great deals and ways to save my money.
A couple of months ago my friend Merri sent me a text message that changed my life. (Okay, not really, but it was still a good little nugget of information that she shared with me.)
Did you know you can get a polish change instead of a pedicure for $10?
Nooo. Actually I didn’t know this.
Ever since I got that text, I haven’t splurged on a full-on pedicure. I’ve opted for a simple polish change on my toes, which still looks great, but costs less than half the price of a pedicure at most nail salons. Score!
Polish Change Lunch Break
Aside from the price, a wonderful thing about a polish change is that you can often get in and get out of the nail salon in 20 minutes. That means you may even be able to cram it into your lunch break.
That’s exactly what I did today. I managed to save even more time by bringing my own polish since I often take an inordinate amount of time selecting the perfect color.
I was in and out and on with my life in less than 20 minutes! Sch-weet!
Lunch
Since I have a long day ahead of me involving a flight to Chicago and our first night of bachelorette party fun, I wanted to be sure to enjoy a filling and nutritious lunch.
I opted for my favorite combination of noodles, Barilla mushroom and garlic marinara sauce, steamed broccoli and freshly chopping spinach.
Winner, winner, chicken dinner.
I also ate a Colby-Jack string cheese on the side that went undocumented.
Tonight
I am an antsy-pants girl this afternoon! I just want my weekend of fun to start NOW!
Tonight I will be arriving in Chicago around 8 p.m. and we’ll be kicking off this wonderful bachelorette party weekend by doing Lord knows what. No one is telling me anything about the whole weekend, so I’m looking forward to having a good time at the hands of my wonderful friends. 🙂
I’ll try to keep the ol’ blog updated as much as possible while I’m in Chicago.
See ya from the Windy City! 😀

Question of the Afternoon
What did you do for your bachelorette party? If you’re not married, what would you want to do for your bachelorette party?
Heather says
oh i can’t wait to see how much fun you have! my bachelorette was super low-key…it was the day before the wedding! my girls and i just went out for a great dinner and margaritas 🙂
Jessica @ How Sweet says
I didn’t know that either!
My bach party was a blast. Appetizers at an outdoor tapas place and then party all night. So fun!
lisaou11 says
I love quick polish changes but then i get sad that I dont get a nice foot massage—which is my FAVORITE part.
Marie says
So excited to see all the fun your girls have in store for you! 🙂 I heard that about polish changes but have never gone. Do they take off your old polish, too? Have a safe trip!
peanutbutterfingers says
yep!!
Jordan says
My bachelorette party was a long weekend in Ft. Lauderdale and South Beach – my girls were great and we had so much fun!
I’m all about saving “g’s” – don’t worry I didn’t know what that meant either, so thank you for teaching me something new. I’m about to go paint my toes with Koala Bear-y 🙂 I love the OPI names!
peanutbutterfingers says
oh i know! they’re so creative! i would love to be the nail polish shade namer for that company!
Courtney @ Ice Cream & Wine says
Safe travels to you! My husband and I actually had a joint bachelor/bachelorette party. Odd, I know! BUT, we were going to be moving across the country after we got married, so we wanted to spend as much time with family and friends as we could – so we got the most out of our parties. It was great!
Kelly says
Haha. I can’t wait to hear all about your weekend. You’re going to have a blast. I really just want to go to a bar or karaoke and dance with my girls.
lowandbhold says
I didn’t know that about “g”‘s haha. I am so clueless when it comes to stuff like that.
I did know about polish changes though and I always get them done on my lunch break. It’s so nice to be able to squeeze something like that in and not have to do it on my “me time”.
Have fun at your party! I definitely want to go on a trip for my bachelorette party. And I want NO male strippers. Gross.
Allie (Live Laugh Eat) says
For me, pedicures are all about everything BUT the polish! I don’t mind painting my nails it’s the dead skin and calluses (guhh working out!) that need the help. Have a great weekend, doll!
Lizzy @ LBBakes says
Haha, I have to tell you, after reading about ‘Gs a the beginning of those post and quickly glancing through the post to see the headline ‘Polish Change Lunch Break’, I thought you were going to share with us an economical lunch of kielbasa or something. Most be the Polish girl in me 😉
No bachelorette party for the single girl, but I hope it’s just a fun night with friends – no craziness needed, just good memories. 🙂
Marilou says
Since you bring your own polish and only switch it …. why don’t you do it yourself? Cheaper 😉
My trick? Put polish everywhere around my nail and then clean it with a LOT of remover 🙂
peanutbutterfingers says
because i reeeeally don’t like painting my nails and i always smudge them & mess them up. i should try your trick!
Shanna, like Banana says
Oh no no no…you can’t just get a polish change..the deluxe pedi is the best part! 😉
My bachelorette party was awesome. 12 of my friends rented a goregous house in wine country in Central Cali and planned all the meals, games, and a special wine tour with a driver just for us. The final day was spent getting facials and massages and eating fresh fruits and cheeses and mimosas inbetween 🙂
You will a blast this weekend I’m sure! Enjoy it!
Courtney @ Sweet Tooth, Sweet Life says
That color looks so close to one that I own, but not the same name.
Have an AWESOME time this weekend!! I had a great bachelorette party night (not a whole weekend though!) It definitely involved, dinner, drinks, and dares. 😉
Kelly says
Have so much fun!!! I hope it is a blast!!! 🙂
Amanda- The Nutritionist Reviews says
Have tons of fun in Chicago! I just went there for my 1 year wedding anniversary for the first time. It is such a great city!
Meg says
I’m not married, but I definitely want a fantastic and insane party, haha 😀 I bet your weekend will be a BLAST! So many cool things going on – I’d have MAJOR ants in my pants too…actually I’d have the whole animal kingdom in my pants.
I love saving some G’s too 😀 Haha I can’t believe you didn’t know what a “g” referred to! Or maybe I just live in an area where we use to more often 😉 I hope you enjoy the rest of your day Julie!!!
Megan @ averymeggirl says
Have soo much fun this weekend!!!
coffeeismycarrot says
Have fun!
My bachelorette party was a tour of the Texas wine country. All my girls and my mom and aunts came into to Austin and we stayed at this really nice old hotel downtown called the Driscoll. We rented a party bus that drove us to the hillcountry (about an hour away) and from winery to winery all day on Saturday then back to Austin for a night out on the town. It was great!
thomalm says
I messed up and drank too much at the pre-party lingerie shower so my bachelorette party was cut short because I passed out at dinner. The best part of the evening, I lost my keys so while we waited for my fiancé to come with the spare key, we drank mimosas on my porch made from gas station “champagne” and OJ.
Chicago Cuisine Critique says
Have fun in Chicago! Enjoy your bachelorette party, can’t wait to hear all about it.
Tina says
My bachelorette party was awful. My friends took me to a country bar for the night. I like country music ok…but not to get my groove thang on to. They also took me to one of my least favorite restaurants. Blech! Lesson learned – don’t say you want to be surprised for your party bec you think your friends know you.
I always forget you can go in just for a polish change. I need to remember that. I hate painting my toenails.
Gracie says
I’m so excited for you!!! I should probably know this, but, will you be in Chicago for HLS as well? Please say yes!
For my bachelorette party (which, is strange to talk about because I don’t even have a boyfriend) I want do have a huge sushi dinner with my girlfriends, followed by a massive dance party. With pink boas, obv 😉
peanutbutterfingers says
haha loooove pink boas! 🙂
i WISH i was going to chicago again for HLS, but no, i’m not. 🙁 i’m going back at the end of the month and couldn’t justify 3 trips to chicago in one month financially. bummer!!!
Kailey@MissionHealthy says
Have sooo much fun this weekend!! 🙂 Can’t wait to see pictures.
oh and I have that nail polish! It’s my favorite summer color
Michelle says
My bachelorette party was spent with my bridesmaids shopping at the Mall of America, staying in a hotel, painting our nails, watching a movie, and just hanging out. It was nothing fancy, but I loved it!
Marg says
I’m not engaged, hoping soon enough, but thinking I’d like to go somewhere with a beach/nightlife. I’m someone who’d want the “cheese” factor.
Have fun!!!
Kristina @goodnweird says
Have fun in Chicago! I love that city.
I didn’t have any idea about polish changes at salons. Wow. Its like a whole new world has opened up to me. Thank you!!
Hillary [Nutrition Nut on the Run] says
I have that same polish – love it! However, I could never just get a polish change b/c these runner’s feet need WORK! hehe.
Laura @ Backstage Pass to Health & Happiness says
Haha, spending G’s… In college my roommate and I had an ongoing debate about the lyrics of Jay Z’s “Big Pimpin’.” She thought the lyrics were “big pimpin’, spending G’s” and I swore they were “Big pimpin, spendin’ cheese.” Because apparently references to cheese or cheddar are also about money. Turns out, I was correct, Jay Z indeed says “cheese” in that song.
Have a GREAT time in Chicago! I will be there Saturday night 😀
peanutbutterfingers says
really? i never knew that! i totally thought he said “g’s” too!
Janna's Keeping it Real! says
How funny! Bff an I had this SAME argument back in th day!
Guess we both have always been foodies at heart, if we can distinctly recognize “cheese” in a song! ;0)
Ash says
I know, I know!! 🙂 Can’t wait to see you in my beautiful city!! You’re going to have SOOO much fun!!!
Chaaron says
My bachelorette party was such a riot! All of my girls threw me a lingerie shower and then we headed to the local downtown district and did a scavenger hunt. It was a hoot! Nothing too wild and crazy because I was the first gal in our group to marry and they knew whatever they did for me would be paid back ten-fold by the time they got married!
Shannon says
Have fun at your bachelorette party! Mine is one of my favorite memories 🙂 My friends took me to Seasons 52 in Orlando, then to Disney for the Food & Wine Festival at Epcot (I’m not afraid to say that I LOVE WDW!). We stayed at one of Disney’s resorts and they had threw me a lingerie/toy party while we were there. We also made a stop at House of Blues. It makes me smile just thinking about it 🙂
Good luck with your half marathon!
Shannon says
I would love to go on a spa day during the day with the ladies, followed by a really nice dinner full of wine and laughter (with some crazy lingerie/toy insanity thrown in lol). Then hit the town!! 😉
Melissa (MelissaLikesToEat) says
I did the standard Las Vegas thing and had a blast! Have fun in Chicago!
erica says
so excited for you! have a great trip! can’t wait to hear (read) all about it! =)
most of the bachlorette parties i’ve been to have been pretty tame…i think i’d just want a fun night out w/friends…nothing too crazy.
i like that you’re doing a half marathon as part of your bachlorette weekend! that’s definitely unique!
Marie says
Have SO much fun! My bachlorette was awesome!! It was just back in May and my girls got an amazing suite in a hotel, we went to dinner, then went to a drag queen show in Boston! It was probably the funniest thing I have EVER seen and it was an amazing evening. I laughed so hard my abs hurt all weekend! My lovely ladies also had lots of surprises for me – my outfit was really cheesy but you only get to do it once, so make sure you enjoy it and take it all in! I just had my wedding a month ago and take my advice – just take a step back from everything and everyone at one point and just take it all in. These are memories that will last a lifetime!! Be safe and good luck in your half marathon as well!!
Meg says
Yes, I’m a superblonde too and didn’t know that’s what g’s stood for. Oh.
I didn’t really have a bachelorette party, but I went down to Salt Lake City for the weekend and shopped till I dropped!
Stacie Jean says
I LOVE getting a polish change! That’s all I do anymore =) Have a blast in Chi-town! My bf lives there and I always have the best time in that city!
Lauren says
Hey Julie…I too spent my bachelorette party in downtown Chicago….but it isn’t too much of a treat because I live here =) We went to The Baton Club, which is a drag queen show, and is awesome! We then went to Howl at the Moon, a dueling piano bar that plays current hits, which was sooo fun! If you are in the area for this bar, put it on your to do list! You will all have a Great time and see tons of other bachelorettes! Have a wondeful weekend!
JunieB says
i now do the same thing during marathon training! i refuse to pay the money for a pedicure when i beat my feet up like i do!
i only have to pay $7 though…and i am a frugal person too…the last time i needed a polish change i did it myself saving myself even more!
JunieB says
oh and I NEVER would get them in the winter! why for? no one sees your feet! :O)
Gabriela @ Une Vie Saine says
Have an absolutely AMAZING time at your party love!! For my brother’s fiance’s bachelorette party in June, we went to Atlantic City. It was a ton of fun!
Lynn says
Pretty color !
I’ve never had a bachlorette party, hmmm no wonder what went wrong 🙂
TheKetchupDiaries says
This just made my whole night that you didn’t know what “g’s” meant. Hahaha.
Rachael says
I’m sure you’re gonna have so much fun – I hear great things about bachelorette parties – in fact, I’ve never heard of someone who didn’t enjoy themselves!
Since I’m an outdoor dork, i think i’d like a girl’s only camping trip, complete with wild woman style moon howling and lots of wine…
Katie says
Have fun at your bachelorette party and good luck with the run!! You’ll do great! Chicago is an awesome city to choose for a bachelorette party, wooo!
Devan says
awee I love your nail polish <3

Have an amazing time!
I went out to dinner with a few friends and then my best friend and I went out to a bar, played games at home, and I think copious amounts of alcohol was involved. Not exactly what I was expecting, but it was very low-key, which meant low stress for me!
Erika says
Have fun!

ok so I have been sitting on my couch for about an hour debating whether to go get a polish change (got the full mani/pedi about 2 weeks ago)…I flipped open my computer and saw this post…clearly a sign!!! haha how ironic!
