Shower Sequence

September 30, 2011 by Julie 227 Comments

Lunch today had to be quick because I was way too unproductive this morning and needed to kick it into gear this afternoon, beginning with a fast lunch!

smoothie bowl chocolate 002

A smoothie bowl!

Looks gross, tastes great.

In the mix:

  • 1 c. milk
  • 1 c. honey Greek yogurt
  • 1 frozen banana
  • 1 c. frozen strawberries
  • 2 tbsp. cocoa powder
  • 1 handful fresh spinach

smoothie bowl chocolate 004

Plus an unphotographed nectarine and some string cheese on the side.

Now for some fun!

Shower Sequence

About a week ago, Ryan and I were discussing our shower sequence. You know, what you wash first, second, third, etc. when you’re in the shower.

(We talk about really deep things. For the record, Ryan brought up this particular topic of conversation.)

We realized that we both have completely different shower sequences and it got me wondering what most people do first… shampoo/condition their hair or soap down the bod?

towel wrap

(Not sure why I decided to bring that picture out of the archives… The towel wrap screamed “shower!” to me and seemed like the closest thing I’d find for a blog appropriate picture for this topic. PBF = Nudie free zone. Oh and don’t you wear a towel wrap with black tights and slippers?)

Anyway, my shower sequence looks like this:

  1. Shampoo
  2. Wash body (while the shampoo is “setting,” so my hair gets extra clean)
  3. Shave legs (sometimes)
  4. Rinse out shampoo
  5. Conditioner
  6. Wash face (while conditioner is “setting,” so my hair gets extra silky)
  7. Rinse out conditioner

Ryan washes his face first, then his body and finishes with shampoo. Apparently he doesn’t bother with letting his shampoo “set” to get his hair extra clean. Does any one else do this? I can’t be the only one!

Question of the Afternoon

  • What is your shower sequence?

This is too funny, I just had a conversation about this a few days ago! We actually got onto the topic because everyone had a different brushing/flossing routine…does anyone know which comes first? Because the group I was with was 50/50.

I wash my hair, rinse it out right away (my hair tends to be dry, so I heard it’s bad to let shampoo sit in it?), put conditioner in, wash my body, shave, rinse conditioner out. My face wash is supposed to get rubbed into dry skin, so I wash my face before I shower!

Oh, and for the record, I brush then floss. 🙂

My shower sequence is always: shampoo, condition and let sit, body, face, rinse off conditioner….anndd…sometimes I brush my teeth in the shower. Is that weird?

You let the shampoo set? I wash with shampoo and then let the conditioner set while I wash the rest of me.

Haha that is the EXACT same as mine…I never change it up! Even if I skip the shampooing I still will wash my body and shave before putting in conditioner. I’ve recently been wondering though if washing my face gives my conditioner enough time to properly leave my hair as silky and smooth as possible. Hmm…

i didnt read through all of these, so i dont know ianyone else does this, but–i shower everyday when i wake up and i always brush my teeth while i’m waiting for my conditioner to penetrate(ha!). even when i dont wash my hair, i still take the time to brush my teeth after using soap and then everything’s done at the same time. my mom said she has the same habit and her mom told her she did it too. weird, huh?

Haha love this, mine is very similar:

    1. Shampoo
    2. Wash face / shave right leg if needed. (while the shampoo is “setting,” so my hair gets extra clean)
    3. Rinse out shampoo
    4. Conditioner
    5. Wash body / shave left leg if needed (while conditioner is “setting,” so my hair gets extra silky)
    6. Rinse out conditioner

    ta da! very similar!

I love this convo lol! My order is shampoo hair, rinse, condtion, wash face, wash body, shave armpits (sometimes legs if they’re gross) and then I rinse out my conditioner. My conditioner sets for a long time lol!!!

I use conditioner first and then shampoo. I read somewhere that if you do it in that order the shampoo will wash some of the conditioner out so it doesn’t add extra greasiness to your hair…and my hair can get pretty greasy! After that I wash my body, then my face, and then shave if I’m feeling ambitious!

This is hilarious. I HAVE to do my shower sequence in the exact.same.order. or something just seems ‘off’ about my day. I’m pretty much like you, too. I have to have something to do while my conditioner ‘sets’ (shaving, body wash).I like to wash my face last, so none of the oils from the shampoo or conditioner remain.

My fiance and I have these same sort of “deep” conversations!

This is too funny! I usually always follow the same sequence – although today was different for some reason ? – start with shampooing, THEN wash my face so shampoo doesn’t get in my eyes, then conditioner, THEN shave (sometimes, too!) and wash my body so that the conditioner makes my hair extraaa soft (!) and then brush it in the shower just to get out any knots, if needed, then wash it out. funny because although it is a um, really deep topic hahah, i DO follow a sequence!!

I soap then shave then shampoo. But when I shower with Josh I shampoo then soap because that’s the order he does and it doesn’t really matter to me. I love joint showering, it sounds weird but its not really about ‘intimate time’, it just fun, and we always have the most interesting conversations.

So…I seriously thought everyone did it the same way I did! I don’t know why I thought there was a universal method….clearly there isn’t.

I shampoo, then conditioner which I leave in while I shave (somethings), wash body (I usually, but not always, wash my feet), then wash face. Then I rinse everything at the same time.

Shampoo –> condition –> wash body/shave while conditioner “sets” –> rinse. For some reason I’ve never ever thought to wash my face in the shower?? I always just wash it at the sink with Clean ‘n’ Clear. 🙂

Shampoo & wash out > wash face (I like to get my hair a little *dry* before adding in conditioner) > conditioner > let conditioner hang out in my hair while I wash body and shave (if it’s time to shave!) > wash out my conditioner in cold water! <— really sucks but worth it because I swear it makes my hair extra shiny! 🙂
    And I'm done!
I actually really hate when I don't do it in this order! haha

I always shampoo & condition first so when I wash my bod the conditioner has extra silk-ifying time.

Only tip for you – I read research on making sure to rinse out the conditioner BEFORE you wash your face b/c otherwise the conditioner can clog pores & cause breakouts! Just thought I’d let you know! 🙂

I shampoo, condition, wash face, shave legs, wash body, rinse. I’ve been doing this forevs. My face breaks out if I wash it before I condition because of the conditioner itself, so I don’t really change it up all that much!

Takes me forever… like 15 minutes haha. But I love a shower!!!

Ha! Interesting topic choice 😉 Here’s what my routine looks like:

    1. Shave legs (sometimes 😉 )
    2. Wash face (before shampooing so I can rinse any facial soap out before the shampoo)
    3. Shampoo – I don’t let it set, I just scrub my scalp really well 🙂
    4. Conditioner, depending on what shampoo I used (I don’t always condition because I have my hair in a short pixie)
    5. Wash/rinse my body
    6. Towel dry

Hahaha I’ve never heard of ‘setting’ the shampoo. I feel like that wouldn’t do anything… but now I’m curious so I may have to experiment. I let my conditioner soak into my hair so it becomes silky soft unless I’m in a super rush.
