So Here’s the Thing…

September 4, 2010 by Julie 33 Comments

So here’s the thing: I don’t really like watching football.

I do, however, enjoy everything that comes along with football season. I love parties, tailgating, lazy Sundays and dressing up to support your team. I also really like attending football games because the energy and excitement is contagious and I’m a huge fan of classic stadium food like hot dogs, kettle corn, nachos and oversized draft beer.

When I got home from laying out by the pool this afternoon, I found Ryan and Sadie on the couch taking in the first University of Florida football game of the season.

Ryan got his MBA at UF and my sister is currently a senior at the university (and is actually at the game today along with my mom and dad).

I really love having football games on in the background at home. For some reason the sounds of a college or NFL game remind me of home and make me feel relaxed. Strange, I know.

While Ryan took in the game, I made us a simple lunch.

On the menu today:

  • Turkey sandwich with honey mustard and baby greens
  • Sliced apple
  • String cheese

It was a lunch fit for a 5th grader… or a 26-year-old guy and 25-year-old girl. 😉

Is honey mustard a southern thing? I never heard of it until I moved to Florida and now I absolutely adore it. Honey mustard can seriously transform a sandwich. So tasty!

Now I’m off to shower up before we pile into my car to run some errands and pick up somethin’ special for dinner.

Hope you’re enjoying this holiday weekend so far. 😀

Question of the Afternoon

I don’t know if it’s a southern thing, but we definitely have it in Ohio! I love that stuff. I like football season too, and I am somewhat of a football fan, at least when it comes to my team, the Buckeyes. I’m fanatical about them! But when it comes to NFL and other teams… I could take it or leave it.

ugh football. if my bf didn’t talk/analyze/watch it 24/7 i don’t think i’d mind it so much. hahahaha. all the talk about over/unders, spreads, and even analyzing the weather takes the fun out of it for me. hahaha. but i love going to games for the food! ;p

I love fall because of the lazy Saturdays and Sundays! I definitely can’t sit and watch an entire game though!

I’m with you on it being comforting – it reminds me of growing up, knowing my dad was in the other room with the game on while my mom napped on the couch next to him.

I am the same way about football. I like it okay and I like watching the games inside but I don’t actually like going to the games. I end up getting bored about halfway through so it’s not really worth it to me! I do love having a bunch of people over to watch the game though!!

I love honey mustard! I had a honey mustard sandwich for lunch today too. I prefer the runnier, dressing-type honey mustard to the mustard-texture types, but they are both delicious.

I feel the same way about most sports! I don’t always know the players or their stats, but I like going with my friends, dressing up, and just being there (or watching with them!). I went to a MN Twins game today and while I haven’t really followed the Twins, it was awesome to just go, enjoy the fall weather and support them.

And honey mustard is wonderful. It’s changed my life too 🙂

Oh yeah! I love college football. Aside from going to Purdue and Virginia Tech (both big football schools), it also reminds me of home. My dad would always have it on, usually folding laundry, while we were growing up.

I’m the same way with football. I don’t actually LIKE watching the games, but I love the energy surrounding them. Football reminds me of laying on the couch snoozing while my dad sat in his chair cheering on his team. And actually going to the games? Forget about it! LOVE THEM!
