St. Patrick’s Day Running Gear

March 7, 2013 by Julie 1,283 Comments

Lunch today snuck up on me!

Before I knew it, my stomach was grumbling and I needed food!

Fact: This meal looks horrendous.

cauliflower sausage scramble

But lots of shredded cheese has a way of making me overlook an unattractive dish!

I began by sautéing a chopped chicken sausage in a skillet while I steamed some cauliflower in the microwave. I then added leftover roasted Brussels sprouts to the skillet, followed by the mashed steamed cauliflower and a boatload of shredded cheese.

Easy, satisfying, ugly and delicious!

March Book Club

With the majority of the votes, the winning book for the PBF March Book Club  is…

the fault in our stars john green

The Fault In Our Stars by John Green. We’ll be discussing this book on the blog on Friday, April 5. I can’t wait to start reading!

Now let’s talk about St. Patrick’s Day running gear…

St. Patrick’s Day Running Gear

Are any of you out there planning to run in a St. Patrick’s Day race?

Ryan, my sister, my sister’s boyfriend and I will be running in a 10K on St. Patrick’s Day and ever since we signed up to participate, we’ve been sending each other costume ideas. You know we like to dress up for races together!

Here are some winners:

These girls look so cute in their green tutus!

More St. Patrick’s Day gear that caught my eye…

  • Green Sparkle Running Skirt

Green sparkle running skirt

I saw a bunch of women wearing fun sparkly skirts over their leggings or compression shorts at the Women’s Half Marathon a few years ago and thought they looked awesome! (Bachelor fans, I think we know Tierra would be all about this one. Sparkle.)

  • BICBands Shamrock Headband

St. Patrick's Day Headbands

You guys know how obsessed I am with these headbands by now. When I saw the shamrock headband on their website, I just had to have it. A headband that doesn’t slip that’s also peppered with lots of little shamrocks!? Oh yes! (Get psyched because YOU have a chance to win a $40 BICBands gift card that you can use toward one at the end of this post!)

  • Target $1 Bin Finds

St. Patrick's Day Costume

Surely I’m not the only one out there who gets suckered into the Target $1 bins? I found a bunch of goodies in the $1 bins last weekend that I picked up for our upcoming race, including blinking bracelets, wigs, light-up rings and more. I was especially pumped about the neck ties!

  • Shamrock Suspenders

Just in case your running shorts are a little too big.

  • Shamrock Compression Socks

Pro Compression Shamrock Marathon Socks

I’m not gonna lie, these PRO Compression shamrock socks shamROCK my socks off. (Sorry, I just can’t help myself.) I saw Monica and SkinnyRunner blog about them last week and was so excited when they sent me a pair to try! (You can use the promo code MARCH for 40% off any of their marathon socks or calf sleeves right now!) I can’t wait to wear them during next Sunday’s 10K!

  • More Fun Knee-High St. Patrick’s Day Socks

    I’m not doing a St. Paddy’s themed race this year, but last year I did an 8k that was SO much fun! I wore a green tech shirt and green beads. My favorite food to enjoy, if you can consider it one, is an Irish car bomb! They’re strong but delish {as long as you chug it before it curdles!}

One day I forgot it was St. Patrick’s Day (so tired from school all week and was at work Saturday morning) so I didn’t intentionally wear any green clothing. Fortunately, I looked down and saw my socks were green so no one was able to pinch me. 🙂

My favorite St. Patrick’s Day was last year, running in the Detroit Corktown St. Patty’s Day run. Corktown is an area of Detroit with a lot of Irish heritage and they celebrate St. Party’s Day (weekend) with a 5K race and a parade. The 5K race runs down the parade route before the parade so there are a lot of (inebriated) spectators to cheer you on!! (Or hand the racers beer while you run)

Very high energy race, with lots of fun costumes!!

I’d love to do a St. Paddy’s day race. As a fellow Chicagoan, it seems fitting, right? I have had a few St. Paddy’s days with one too many green beers, so I think I’ll be looking to hunt down Shamrock shakes instead! Pinterest has some great homemade shamrock shakes you should totally check out, probably FANTASTIC with Bailey’s!

Wooo! I love Bic Bands and these ones are SUPER cute! We’re actually hosting a St. Patrick’s Day party this year, featuring some of our favorite Irish foods. (I’m Irish so I get way too excited about this!) Corned beef, cabbage, potato bread (with Irish butter, of course) and Guinness Chocolate cupcakes with Baileys Irish Cream Cheese Frosting. Guinness, Boddington’s, and Irish whiskey to wash it all down.

Obviously, the Irish are not known for their emphasis on green veggies and lighter treats 😛

A staple for St. Patty’s day is green beer! Although I am not sure that counts as a food! When we were little, my mom would make us green pancakes and green milk (with food coloring) on St. Patty’s day. Something about green milk is SO unappetizing.

My mom makes the best corned beef and cabbage* (potatoes & carrots, too!) so hands down, that’s my fave St. Patty’s meal! Though the Guinness brownies I made last year are a close second. 🙂

My favorite food to enjoy on St. Patrick’s Day is beer. Beer is a food, right? But for real, I love those soft sugar cookies with sugar crystal icing all over it. Preferably clover shaped. 🙂
