St. Patrick’s Day Running Gear

March 7, 2013 by Julie 1,283 Comments

Lunch today snuck up on me!

Before I knew it, my stomach was grumbling and I needed food!

Fact: This meal looks horrendous.

cauliflower sausage scramble

But lots of shredded cheese has a way of making me overlook an unattractive dish!

I began by sautéing a chopped chicken sausage in a skillet while I steamed some cauliflower in the microwave. I then added leftover roasted Brussels sprouts to the skillet, followed by the mashed steamed cauliflower and a boatload of shredded cheese.

Easy, satisfying, ugly and delicious!

March Book Club

With the majority of the votes, the winning book for the PBF March Book Club  is…

the fault in our stars john green

The Fault In Our Stars by John Green. We’ll be discussing this book on the blog on Friday, April 5. I can’t wait to start reading!

Now let’s talk about St. Patrick’s Day running gear…

St. Patrick’s Day Running Gear

Are any of you out there planning to run in a St. Patrick’s Day race?

Ryan, my sister, my sister’s boyfriend and I will be running in a 10K on St. Patrick’s Day and ever since we signed up to participate, we’ve been sending each other costume ideas. You know we like to dress up for races together!

Here are some winners:

These girls look so cute in their green tutus!

More St. Patrick’s Day gear that caught my eye…

  • Green Sparkle Running Skirt

Green sparkle running skirt

I saw a bunch of women wearing fun sparkly skirts over their leggings or compression shorts at the Women’s Half Marathon a few years ago and thought they looked awesome! (Bachelor fans, I think we know Tierra would be all about this one. Sparkle.)

  • BICBands Shamrock Headband

St. Patrick's Day Headbands

You guys know how obsessed I am with these headbands by now. When I saw the shamrock headband on their website, I just had to have it. A headband that doesn’t slip that’s also peppered with lots of little shamrocks!? Oh yes! (Get psyched because YOU have a chance to win a $40 BICBands gift card that you can use toward one at the end of this post!)

  • Target $1 Bin Finds

St. Patrick's Day Costume

Surely I’m not the only one out there who gets suckered into the Target $1 bins? I found a bunch of goodies in the $1 bins last weekend that I picked up for our upcoming race, including blinking bracelets, wigs, light-up rings and more. I was especially pumped about the neck ties!

  • Shamrock Suspenders

Just in case your running shorts are a little too big.

  • Shamrock Compression Socks

Pro Compression Shamrock Marathon Socks

I’m not gonna lie, these PRO Compression shamrock socks shamROCK my socks off. (Sorry, I just can’t help myself.) I saw Monica and SkinnyRunner blog about them last week and was so excited when they sent me a pair to try! (You can use the promo code MARCH for 40% off any of their marathon socks or calf sleeves right now!) I can’t wait to wear them during next Sunday’s 10K!

  • More Fun Knee-High St. Patrick’s Day Socks

I’m prepping for a fun run with friends on St. Patty’s day. We’re decking ourselves out with green paint and outfits- Tutu’s are obviously necessary!!! We are hoping to finish like last time and enjoy green beer! Our tongues turned green and we won best outfits prizes afterwards at a local pub 🙂

My mom used to hide shamrock glitter in the pockets of all my pants the night before st. patrick’s day! I always got so excited there had been leprechauns in my room during the night :P. And my favourite St. patrick’s day food is definitely Irish soda bread.

    I looooooooooove Bicbands!

On St. Patrick’s Day I always make corned beef sandwiches for my family. I cook the corned beef then slice it gently and make grilled sandwiches on marble-rye bread with melted Swiss cheese. It’s a party for sure!

I’ve got those cool compression socks–can’t wait to wear them. I’m not running a 3/17 race but I’m half-Irish so I don’t need a holiday to wear shamrocks! 😉

Hey!!! I was super excited to see ur title! I have actually just recently signed up to run a Shamrock-n-Run 8k in New Orleans with my sister in law. She is my usual running partner so it may not seem that special, however, we begged the boys to do it with us….. And….. they agreed!!! I still can’t believe I got Dustin, my husband, to sign up! I have always wanted him to get into jogging/ running so that we could do various races together!!! So, anyways, I want this one to be extremely special!! I want him to get that excitement and anticipation that makes ur heart pound before u even begin the race! I have been looking for cute green accessories to add to our running gear to spice things up. I’ll def have to go visit target after looking at ur great finds!!

We’re Scottish by heritage, not Irish, but every year my mom makes corned beef and cabbage for dinner on St. Patrick’s Day.
This year, my small group leader is making corned beef and cabbage, and doing a craft night. Also, her and a bunch of my friends from church are running in Chicago’s Shamrock Shuffle 8k, which ironically is no time near St. Patrick’s Day. Very weird….

They used to dye our little cartons of milk and orange juice green in elementary school. I used to think that was one of the coolest things on the planet! My favorite adult memory is from last year, when a friend rented a limo on a whim for all of us, and we spent the whole night in the city. It was so fun!

$40 giftcard towards BICbands.com is AMAZING! That would be a favorite Christmas present. My favorite thing to do on St. Patty’s Day is to leave huge green leprechaun prints or destroy the classroom while students are at recess or overnight (I have experienced both). It is so much fun to blame the mess on the leprechaun and to watch the kids reactions. So much fun!

I live in Canada so St. Pattys is often too cold for my liking, but my fav memory is a few years ago when it was a scorcher! We were walking in tshirts and shorts to the bar with all our dollar store gear on. After sweating too much (yes that hot!) our necks turned green from our necklaces. We were definitely all out in spirit after that.

St.Patrick’s Day is my dad’s birthday so it’s always fun to celebrate. But — I went to Miami University (OH) and we have a long standing tradition called Green Beer Day. All the bars open around 5:45am and students basically dress in green, drink green beer, eat green foods all day long. This always happens on the Thursday before our Spring Break because most likely our Spring Break fell over St.Patrick’s Day. It’s not the best tradition to have, but it certainly is a ton of fun! (Except if you have a professor who does not think it’s fun to participate in and makes you come to class anyways)
