St. Patrick’s Day Running Gear

March 7, 2013 by Julie 1,283 Comments

Lunch today snuck up on me!

Before I knew it, my stomach was grumbling and I needed food!

Fact: This meal looks horrendous.

cauliflower sausage scramble

But lots of shredded cheese has a way of making me overlook an unattractive dish!

I began by sautéing a chopped chicken sausage in a skillet while I steamed some cauliflower in the microwave. I then added leftover roasted Brussels sprouts to the skillet, followed by the mashed steamed cauliflower and a boatload of shredded cheese.

Easy, satisfying, ugly and delicious!

March Book Club

With the majority of the votes, the winning book for the PBF March Book Club  is…

the fault in our stars john green

The Fault In Our Stars by John Green. We’ll be discussing this book on the blog on Friday, April 5. I can’t wait to start reading!

Now let’s talk about St. Patrick’s Day running gear…

St. Patrick’s Day Running Gear

Are any of you out there planning to run in a St. Patrick’s Day race?

Ryan, my sister, my sister’s boyfriend and I will be running in a 10K on St. Patrick’s Day and ever since we signed up to participate, we’ve been sending each other costume ideas. You know we like to dress up for races together!

Here are some winners:

  • Target $1 Bin Finds

St. Patrick's Day Costume

Surely I’m not the only one out there who gets suckered into the Target $1 bins? I found a bunch of goodies in the $1 bins last weekend that I picked up for our upcoming race, including blinking bracelets, wigs, light-up rings and more. I was especially pumped about the neck ties!

My favorite St. Pat’s food is definitely the shamrock shake–sooooo unhealthy, but so tasty! (Besides, it’s only once a year!)

My favorite St. Pat’s Day memory is from last year… we were on vacation in Maui and my boyfriend (now fiance, as of last weekend.. yay!) convinced his mother and I to take Irish Car Bomb shots. I think my future mother in law was pleasantly surprised by the taste and ended up having a few of them. Glad I stuck to just one 😉

My mom and I make Baliey’s chocolate chip mint cookies EVERY year! They are my absolute favorite! I’ll never forget my first St. Patricks’ day at college when she sent some in a care package for all of my sorority sisters to share! It felt like I was right at home!

    Hi Julie,
Thanks for all the great St. Paddy’s Day gear ideas. I am running in a St. Paddys day 8k with a friend and will definitely be hitting up Target. Also, great giveaway I have a small head and very fine hair so every headband I use always slips I will definitely be using the promo code for the Bic bands on the chance I don’t win the giveaway. Happy St. Patrick’s Day!

The St. Patrick’s Day after graduating from college, I thought it would be cool to go to Boston to see the parade. None of my girlfriends had “real jobs” yet, so quite a few of them joined me. We drove to Boston late Friday night, spent all day Saturday walking from bar to bar in the pouring rain on a crazy pub crawl, and left early Sunday morning because 1. we were hungover and 2. it was still raining and we didn’t think the parade would be too much fun. We had such a good time that we ended up in Boston for the pub crawl again the next year!

I have worked with intellectually and developmentally disabled adults for years- until this past year when I quit to work for a large hospital to be able to go to nursing school. I miss it dearly, but one of the thing I truly miss is the annual St. Patrick’s day party I would have with my clients. We would drown our whole classroom in green, dress up, I would cook up an Irish feast, and we would party all after noon. Typing this makes my heart melt a bit. <3 my absolute favorite memory is a picture I have of one of my clients. I always made "shamrock shakes" and he had it every where except his mouth, but darn it if he didn't look cute as ever!

Thanks for the awesome blog I look forward to reading every evening!

My two boys are very excited about those pesky little leprachauns so I put trails of glitter and shamrocks from their bedrooms to the breakfast table where a St. Patty’s day feast awaits us. I dye the milk green and we all have bowls of Lucky Charms and green pancakes! Then we hunt for gold coins (those gold foiled chocolates) that the leprachauns dropped when they were making a mess of the house 🙂

Our family has a couple of traditions. First my husband make homemade corned beef with cabbage…delicious! We also attend the annual parade and watch the river turn green. Lastly, I usually make some kind of candy treat for the kids that they have to hunt for. All in all it is a great day!

St. Patrick’s Day is my birthday and when I was little my mom used to leave a trail of “shamrock dust” (green glitter) that would lead me to a surprise present that she said was left by a Leprechaun for my birthday. She always made the day very special–and very Irish! 🙂

Then when we come back to the classroom and the leprechaun (thanks to the help of fellow teachers) has messed up our whole classroom and left us magic green powder (pistachio pudding) to make! I used to be TERRIFIED of leprechauns, because the thought of little men with accents running around and stealing gold was a little unsettling… One time “they” locked my mom, my first grade class room-mom, in the storage closet at school, and that definitely didn’t help my fear! (I later found out she just locked herself in on accident, and it happened to be St. Patrick’s Day. Thanks Mom.)
