St. Patrick’s Day Running Gear

March 7, 2013 by Julie 1,283 Comments

Lunch today snuck up on me!

Before I knew it, my stomach was grumbling and I needed food!

Fact: This meal looks horrendous.

cauliflower sausage scramble

But lots of shredded cheese has a way of making me overlook an unattractive dish!

I began by sautéing a chopped chicken sausage in a skillet while I steamed some cauliflower in the microwave. I then added leftover roasted Brussels sprouts to the skillet, followed by the mashed steamed cauliflower and a boatload of shredded cheese.

Easy, satisfying, ugly and delicious!

March Book Club

With the majority of the votes, the winning book for the PBF March Book Club  is…

the fault in our stars john green

The Fault In Our Stars by John Green. We’ll be discussing this book on the blog on Friday, April 5. I can’t wait to start reading!

Now let’s talk about St. Patrick’s Day running gear…

St. Patrick’s Day Running Gear

Are any of you out there planning to run in a St. Patrick’s Day race?

Ryan, my sister, my sister’s boyfriend and I will be running in a 10K on St. Patrick’s Day and ever since we signed up to participate, we’ve been sending each other costume ideas. You know we like to dress up for races together!

Here are some winners:

More St. Patrick’s Day gear that caught my eye…

  • Green Sparkle Running Skirt

Green sparkle running skirt

I saw a bunch of women wearing fun sparkly skirts over their leggings or compression shorts at the Women’s Half Marathon a few years ago and thought they looked awesome! (Bachelor fans, I think we know Tierra would be all about this one. Sparkle.)

  • BICBands Shamrock Headband

St. Patrick's Day Headbands

You guys know how obsessed I am with these headbands by now. When I saw the shamrock headband on their website, I just had to have it. A headband that doesn’t slip that’s also peppered with lots of little shamrocks!? Oh yes! (Get psyched because YOU have a chance to win a $40 BICBands gift card that you can use toward one at the end of this post!)

  • Target $1 Bin Finds

St. Patrick's Day Costume

Surely I’m not the only one out there who gets suckered into the Target $1 bins? I found a bunch of goodies in the $1 bins last weekend that I picked up for our upcoming race, including blinking bracelets, wigs, light-up rings and more. I was especially pumped about the neck ties!

  • Shamrock Suspenders

Just in case your running shorts are a little too big.

  • Shamrock Compression Socks

Pro Compression Shamrock Marathon Socks

I’m not gonna lie, these PRO Compression shamrock socks shamROCK my socks off. (Sorry, I just can’t help myself.) I saw Monica and SkinnyRunner blog about them last week and was so excited when they sent me a pair to try! (You can use the promo code MARCH for 40% off any of their marathon socks or calf sleeves right now!) I can’t wait to wear them during next Sunday’s 10K!

  • More Fun Knee-High St. Patrick’s Day Socks

ah so fun! I would love to run a st patty’s race…or any “costume” race for that matter. I do make sure my foods are green on st patrick’s day though – probably will start out with a waffles turned green!

I haven’t run any races yet, but I’m starting soon. My first one is the Warrior Dash in June! My favorite St Patty’s Day memory is my senior year of college. When we couldn’t wake up all year long to go to 8am classes, we were up at 6 to have Bailey’s and coffee and then drank ALL DAY! 🙂 Fun times.

I love those headbands! I hope you guys have a lot of fun for your race! I’m actually not going to be running a race this St. Patrick’s day because I get to head down to Florida for spring break. But I love to “find the leprechaun” when my mom makes a trail of green and gold glitter leading to a cute note left by a leprechaun!

Favorite St. Patty’s day memory is when my daughter was 2. It was a beautiful day for the parade, but strangers kept coming up asking where my daughter had been that she got so wet, because her hair looked soaked since the day before she had put vaseline in her hair. It made for good laugh for everyone.

My grandfather’s birthday was on St. Patrick’s Day, so we always celebrated it growing up. Those are some of my best memories of the holiday and of him. We also always ate corned beef and cabbage. 🙂 I’m dying to try a bic band after always reading about them on here! Thanks for the great giveaway!

Hmm I always like St. Patrick’s Day in elementary school because they would leave little green footprints in the bathroom that walk up and out of the window. We would always be on the lookout for a lepruchan… and eat a bunch of candy chocolate coins.

My husband and I became “official” boyfriend and girlfriend on St. Patrick’s Day when we were 17. He proposed on that day when we were 22 and we went to Beale Street to celebrate. We’ve been married for almost 8 years and we still try to go to Silky’s on Beale every year.

St. Patrick’s Day always reminds me of being a kid and having a leprechaun come to our classroom! I remember we went to lunch and recess and then when got back to the room there were green footprints and gold “coins” (chocolate) at our desks. I remember us all being excited about a leprechaun visiting our classroom while we were gone! So fun! I want to do it with my future kids.

I might do a St. Patrick’s Day 5K in Bradenton that includes a pub crawl after…haven’t decided yet though.

I honestly don’t have any significant St. Patrick’s Day memories, or know what St. patty’s Day food is, besides green beer. I guess I am not up on all the Irishness of things. Maybe I will make it special and make my kids green eggs for breakfast and pinch their little cheeks if they don’t pick out green to wear. 🙂

I can always remember waking up to green eggs, green pancakes, green milk, green fruits…green everything! Then a leprechaun would leave some green goodies behind! I hope I make even the small holidays a big deal for my kids!

My favorite St. Patty’s day memory is flying into NYC on St Patricks Day for a concert that I was singing in. We arrived in New York and were thrown into a world of Irish! With our hotel on the parade route, we were in the middle of it all!

In previous years, I always enjoyed those deliciously doughy green bagels…but as it’s my first year as a gluten-free gal, I guess I’ll have to find something else to get my green fix 🙁

Fun fact: as a a kindergartener on St. Patty’s day, I couldn’t figure out WHY all of our milk had turned green. I was convinced it was poisoned and refused to drink it!
