St. Patrick’s Day Running Gear

March 7, 2013 by Julie 1,283 Comments

Lunch today snuck up on me!

Before I knew it, my stomach was grumbling and I needed food!

Fact: This meal looks horrendous.

cauliflower sausage scramble

But lots of shredded cheese has a way of making me overlook an unattractive dish!

I began by sautéing a chopped chicken sausage in a skillet while I steamed some cauliflower in the microwave. I then added leftover roasted Brussels sprouts to the skillet, followed by the mashed steamed cauliflower and a boatload of shredded cheese.

Easy, satisfying, ugly and delicious!

March Book Club

With the majority of the votes, the winning book for the PBF March Book Club  is…

the fault in our stars john green

The Fault In Our Stars by John Green. We’ll be discussing this book on the blog on Friday, April 5. I can’t wait to start reading!

Now let’s talk about St. Patrick’s Day running gear…

St. Patrick’s Day Running Gear

Are any of you out there planning to run in a St. Patrick’s Day race?

Ryan, my sister, my sister’s boyfriend and I will be running in a 10K on St. Patrick’s Day and ever since we signed up to participate, we’ve been sending each other costume ideas. You know we like to dress up for races together!

Here are some winners:

These girls look so cute in their green tutus!

More St. Patrick’s Day gear that caught my eye…

  • Green Sparkle Running Skirt

Green sparkle running skirt

I saw a bunch of women wearing fun sparkly skirts over their leggings or compression shorts at the Women’s Half Marathon a few years ago and thought they looked awesome! (Bachelor fans, I think we know Tierra would be all about this one. Sparkle.)

  • BICBands Shamrock Headband

St. Patrick's Day Headbands

You guys know how obsessed I am with these headbands by now. When I saw the shamrock headband on their website, I just had to have it. A headband that doesn’t slip that’s also peppered with lots of little shamrocks!? Oh yes! (Get psyched because YOU have a chance to win a $40 BICBands gift card that you can use toward one at the end of this post!)

  • Target $1 Bin Finds

St. Patrick's Day Costume

Surely I’m not the only one out there who gets suckered into the Target $1 bins? I found a bunch of goodies in the $1 bins last weekend that I picked up for our upcoming race, including blinking bracelets, wigs, light-up rings and more. I was especially pumped about the neck ties!

  • Shamrock Suspenders

Just in case your running shorts are a little too big.

  • Shamrock Compression Socks

Pro Compression Shamrock Marathon Socks

I’m not gonna lie, these PRO Compression shamrock socks shamROCK my socks off. (Sorry, I just can’t help myself.) I saw Monica and SkinnyRunner blog about them last week and was so excited when they sent me a pair to try! (You can use the promo code MARCH for 40% off any of their marathon socks or calf sleeves right now!) I can’t wait to wear them during next Sunday’s 10K!

  • More Fun Knee-High St. Patrick’s Day Socks

My best friend and I have run a shamrock race every year since we’ve graduated college (4years)! This year, we chose to meet back in our hometown for the St Pattys Day 5k!

I’m from Chicago, so I love dressing in all green and going downtown to see the River dyed green. People watching is always so much fun. Of course, my friends and I go to McDonald’s to get a Shamrock Shake (sometimes adding our own Bailey’s) followed by a stop at Portillo’s 🙂

Love ALL the green! And like you I LOVE LOVE LOVE the $1 bins at Target! I actually have to limit my Target trips. I love me some Target and I get SOOO carried away!

We were hoping to do the Dash Down Greenville in Dallas on St. Pattys Day. I am also going to visit my friend in Savannah, Ga and she said we HAVE to go see this famous dyed green fountain. So maybe that may become a new tradition! 🙂

Last st Patrick’s day was crazy. I was 5 months pregnant with our second and I made an awesome cashew chicken for dinner. Well, our daughter (who was 2 at the time) ate some and was allergic, so we ended up in the er. I can always remember what day it was because she looked so cute in her green shirt and her hair was in 2 pigtail buns.

Our old dog, Penny, was a stray, and the vet told us her birthday was probably sometime in March. Since we adopted her, we figured she was pretty lucky and celebrated her birthday on St. Patrick’s Day.

does it count that i do NOT wear green and i feel nervous about being teased/pinched all day (had more of the former, not much of the latter). i have tan/olive skin (italian) and i look ill in any shade of green, so it is not a color in my closet.

One year I woke up and got the whole concept of St. Patrick’s Day completely off. Instead of wearing all green, I did my best to wear NONE! It is one of my friend’s favorite holidays, so right when I got out the car, she noticed immediately I had on no green. Let’s just say I had a bruise that lasted for a week on my arm. OUUUUCH!

My favorite St. Patrick’s Day tradition is the meal my mom always cooks for us: the traditional corned beef and cabbage with a pistachio cake and green icing! And of course our day always began with green pancakes! Now that I am married and stationed far away from home I can’t wait to make this meal for all of our friends!

My dad insisted on taking me and my mom on a cruise during my last spring break in law school as a graduation present. We had a great time on St. Patrick’s day in St. Thomas, snorkeling and shopping and wearing green and then going to the piano bar on the ship that night. Some random guy gave my mom bead and she thought it was hilarious. My mom died unexpectedly six weeks later, which is what makes the memory extra special.

My boys are still talking about the leprechaun that left green footprints on our toilet while he relieved himself (he turned the water green), he turned our milk green, and eluded our trap. He did leave them Lucky Charms in compensation for all the mischief. I think he will be making a return this year!
