St. Patrick’s Day Running Gear

March 7, 2013 by Julie 1,283 Comments

Lunch today snuck up on me!

Before I knew it, my stomach was grumbling and I needed food!

Fact: This meal looks horrendous.

cauliflower sausage scramble

But lots of shredded cheese has a way of making me overlook an unattractive dish!

I began by sautéing a chopped chicken sausage in a skillet while I steamed some cauliflower in the microwave. I then added leftover roasted Brussels sprouts to the skillet, followed by the mashed steamed cauliflower and a boatload of shredded cheese.

Easy, satisfying, ugly and delicious!

March Book Club

With the majority of the votes, the winning book for the PBF March Book Club  is…

the fault in our stars john green

The Fault In Our Stars by John Green. We’ll be discussing this book on the blog on Friday, April 5. I can’t wait to start reading!

Now let’s talk about St. Patrick’s Day running gear…

St. Patrick’s Day Running Gear

Are any of you out there planning to run in a St. Patrick’s Day race?

Ryan, my sister, my sister’s boyfriend and I will be running in a 10K on St. Patrick’s Day and ever since we signed up to participate, we’ve been sending each other costume ideas. You know we like to dress up for races together!

Here are some winners:

My birthday is St. Patrick’s day, so every year that I can remember my family has done something special to celebrate. My favorite St. Patrick’s Day tradition is bringing green bagels to school for my class to share. (I’m now in college, but my mom still tries to get them to me to share with my friends.) My mom didn’t like buying cookies or cupcakes for my birthday to share because they are pure sugar, so she bought green bagels from the bagel shop in town. It’s been a tradition since I was two years old!

Last year I had just gotten back from a week long service trip in Nashville, TN on St. Patty’s Day. We had just driven 18 hours to get home, and you better believe we were tired. nevertheless, with St. Patty’s day gear, snacks, and drinks, we celebrated in true Irish fashion, and ended up watching Tangled (one of my all time favorite movies)
I’m 80% Irish and LOVE St. Patty’s Day–it’s so much fun!

My most memorable St. Patrick’s Day was three years ago, I went out for St. Patrick’s day with friends. At one point my girl friends and I went together to go to the bathroom. A college kid walked by at the same time and he clearly had too many green beers because he tossed his cookies in my hair! While it was a sore subject for awhile I now look back and laugh, I’m sure he had a much worse night than me! Exactly one year later I started dating my current boyfriend, so while the karma was belated…it came around.

I like drinking GREEN BEER! …and then be disappointed by it not living up to the wow-factor that I imagined it to have…every year! It’s just too tempting not to order. I feel it necessary to partake in the festivities by holding a green drink.

Oh how fun! I want to find a themed race to run soon, it looks so exciting! My favorite food, well I guess drink, to have on St. Pattie’s day was always Country Time Lemonade with green food coloring added in to make it green. My mom always really did up holidays when we were younger, so our St. P’s dinner would consist of dyed green mashed potatoes, green lemonade, green beans, etc. Such a festive holiday!

My husband makes corned beef, potatoes, cabbage, and carrots every year for St.Patrick’s day. My tradition is to mix and mash all of the veggies together with some salt and pepper and dig in! I also plan of making some special green treats for my twins this year. Green milkshakes? Lucky charms. Green wraps. etc 🙂 Starting new tradition, and making memories.

My favorite food to enjoy on St Paddy’s day is Corned beef & cabbage! Yum! last year on St Paddy’s day my husband & I planned on going out for the Irish meal. After a 10 mile run we were hungry and ready to eat, we drove to a place nearby and they said they ran out at noon! We were so disappointed! In HI I don’t think they take St Paddy’s day too serious. We have to go back to the mainland to get some Irish food.

Last year my friends and I went on a trolley bar crawl all around Chicago. It was the most fun I have ever had on St. Patrick’s Day! We threw massive amounts of beads out the window to people, everyone was dressed up in crazy outfits, and the weather was unseasonably warm which made the day/night even better!
