St. Patrick’s Day Running Gear

March 7, 2013 by Julie 1,283 Comments

Lunch today snuck up on me!

Before I knew it, my stomach was grumbling and I needed food!

Fact: This meal looks horrendous.

cauliflower sausage scramble

But lots of shredded cheese has a way of making me overlook an unattractive dish!

I began by sautéing a chopped chicken sausage in a skillet while I steamed some cauliflower in the microwave. I then added leftover roasted Brussels sprouts to the skillet, followed by the mashed steamed cauliflower and a boatload of shredded cheese.

Easy, satisfying, ugly and delicious!

March Book Club

With the majority of the votes, the winning book for the PBF March Book Club  is…

the fault in our stars john green

The Fault In Our Stars by John Green. We’ll be discussing this book on the blog on Friday, April 5. I can’t wait to start reading!

Now let’s talk about St. Patrick’s Day running gear…

St. Patrick’s Day Running Gear

Are any of you out there planning to run in a St. Patrick’s Day race?

Ryan, my sister, my sister’s boyfriend and I will be running in a 10K on St. Patrick’s Day and ever since we signed up to participate, we’ve been sending each other costume ideas. You know we like to dress up for races together!

Here are some winners:

St. Patrick's Day Costume

Surely I’m not the only one out there who gets suckered into the Target $1 bins? I found a bunch of goodies in the $1 bins last weekend that I picked up for our upcoming race, including blinking bracelets, wigs, light-up rings and more. I was especially pumped about the neck ties!

I am running a 5k on St. Patrick’s Day for charity and will then join my friends at the bar we hang out at for my traditional corned beef and cabbage dinner (love it) and for drinks to celebrate my birthday. I was blessed to be born on St. Patrick’s Day so every year there is a party and somewhere to go to.

St. Patrick’s day is one of my favorite holidays. My dad was 100% Irish and it ws definitely one of his favorite days as well. My favorite St. Patrick’s day memory was when I was a senior in high school. I had the day off and was planning on going to the parade in Cleveland, OH with some friends. On the way to the parade my friends and I stopped at a bakery near my dad’s school (he was a teacher) and surprised him with a visit and some shamrock shaped cookies. He was so surprised. Every year on St. Patrick’s day I dress in grean, have irish soda bread, a shamrock shake and a corned beef sandwich 🙂

St. Patrick’s Day has ALWAYS been my favorite holiday!! With my birthday being on March 7, just 10 days prior, I think the holiday has been my favorite since the start!! I make sure everyone wears their green and love making lots of St. Patty’s treats for family/friends. It’s now a tradition to always get something St. Patty’s themed for my birthday – this year was party napkins!! 🙂 I’d love to win some bic bands and would of course choose the one with shamrocks! After a few running injuries and taking some time off, I’m looking forward to running my first color run in May and would love to sport a bic band!!! Hopefully I have the LUCK OF THE IRISH to win!! 🙂

Every year my family would make corned beef and cabbage from scratch and we would enjoy it on St. Patrick’s Day. I also remember if I was not wearing a “correct” shade of green, say teal for instance my dad and brothers would chase me around and pinch me! We are not Irish but my mom would always decorate the house with shamrocks, leprechauns and pots of gold, I really miss that!

When I was a child, my dad participated in the St. Patrick’s Day race in St. Louis each year. The runners started downtown and finished by running into the old Busch Stadium. It was great to get all dressed up and cheer on my dad each year. Now, it’s pretty cool because I’m in the runner’s seat and my parents come to cheer me on. And…..there’s lots of food!

A favorite St. Patrick’s Day memory was running a nearby Shamrock Shuffle with my sister and her company. Even though I didn’t work for her company, they took me in and were very supportive of my effort to run the race. (My sister and I were also training for a half marathon that year, and talking running with her boss, who was also training for a half, was very encouraging.)
