St. Patrick’s Day Running Gear

March 7, 2013 by Julie 1,283 Comments

Lunch today snuck up on me!

Before I knew it, my stomach was grumbling and I needed food!

Fact: This meal looks horrendous.

cauliflower sausage scramble

But lots of shredded cheese has a way of making me overlook an unattractive dish!

I began by sautéing a chopped chicken sausage in a skillet while I steamed some cauliflower in the microwave. I then added leftover roasted Brussels sprouts to the skillet, followed by the mashed steamed cauliflower and a boatload of shredded cheese.

Easy, satisfying, ugly and delicious!

March Book Club

With the majority of the votes, the winning book for the PBF March Book Club  is…

the fault in our stars john green

The Fault In Our Stars by John Green. We’ll be discussing this book on the blog on Friday, April 5. I can’t wait to start reading!

Now let’s talk about St. Patrick’s Day running gear…

St. Patrick’s Day Running Gear

Are any of you out there planning to run in a St. Patrick’s Day race?

Ryan, my sister, my sister’s boyfriend and I will be running in a 10K on St. Patrick’s Day and ever since we signed up to participate, we’ve been sending each other costume ideas. You know we like to dress up for races together!

Here are some winners:

More St. Patrick’s Day gear that caught my eye…

  • Green Sparkle Running Skirt

Green sparkle running skirt

I saw a bunch of women wearing fun sparkly skirts over their leggings or compression shorts at the Women’s Half Marathon a few years ago and thought they looked awesome! (Bachelor fans, I think we know Tierra would be all about this one. Sparkle.)

  • BICBands Shamrock Headband

St. Patrick's Day Headbands

You guys know how obsessed I am with these headbands by now. When I saw the shamrock headband on their website, I just had to have it. A headband that doesn’t slip that’s also peppered with lots of little shamrocks!? Oh yes! (Get psyched because YOU have a chance to win a $40 BICBands gift card that you can use toward one at the end of this post!)

  • Target $1 Bin Finds

St. Patrick's Day Costume

Surely I’m not the only one out there who gets suckered into the Target $1 bins? I found a bunch of goodies in the $1 bins last weekend that I picked up for our upcoming race, including blinking bracelets, wigs, light-up rings and more. I was especially pumped about the neck ties!

  • Shamrock Suspenders

Just in case your running shorts are a little too big.

  • Shamrock Compression Socks

Pro Compression Shamrock Marathon Socks

I’m not gonna lie, these PRO Compression shamrock socks shamROCK my socks off. (Sorry, I just can’t help myself.) I saw Monica and SkinnyRunner blog about them last week and was so excited when they sent me a pair to try! (You can use the promo code MARCH for 40% off any of their marathon socks or calf sleeves right now!) I can’t wait to wear them during next Sunday’s 10K!

  • More Fun Knee-High St. Patrick’s Day Socks

I was all excited one year to make an Irish Cream cheesecake! It turned out being a huge bust, so we went and got shamrock shakes instead!

Actually last st Patrick’s day was awesome! My 2 little girls and I enjoyed our city’s awesome parade. And we went out for green ice cream that night. This year my 5 year old is running her first race and I’m super excited!! (Leprechaun lap). It’s 0.1 mile long.

My favorite thing about St. Patrick’s Day are the shamrock shakes at McDonalds. Growing up my mom would take us there every year to pick one up and I’ve continued this tradition on my wn. It makes the day special and makes me so happy.

Every year I go to this one fraternity (they’re all like my best friends) who hosts “AM Irish.” They basically drink from 10am til the day is over. I don’t partake because I don’t drink, but it’s always kind of funny to see drunk people at 12pm. Don’t know if that’s appropriate… hopefully you won’t judge me! haha

My husband, sister and I are all running the Shamrock Shuffle in Chicago but it is not till April 7th…a little after the fact, but the luck of the Irish is year round, right ? In terms of food on St. Patty’s, my mom used to always put green food coloring in the gallon of milk so that it was green for our cereal in the morning and say that a leprechaun did it! We would have corned beef sandwiches for dinner — YUM! Those BIC bands are adorable and totally my style!

My favorite St. Patty’s Day food is corned beef and cabbage. I’m not sure why I never think to make it throughout the rest of the year because it’s such a good, hearty meal! I made it in the crockpot for the first time last year and it was even easier – and I had tons of leftovers! Good luck at your race!

My favorite/best St. Patrick’s Day was in 2005. That’s the first one after my husband and I got married and we got our first puppy. We tried to come up with a good irish inspired name but failed, we ended up naming her Audrey. 🙂 On a completely unrelated note, our son who just turned 2 is named Patrick. 🙂

Those St. Patrick’s Day Bic Bands are super cute! Our mascot in high school was the “shamrocks”, and these would have been perfect to wear on spirit days! I’ve never been one for corned beef and cabbage, but I wouldn’t turn down a green beer. 🙂

I just moved to Boston so I have a feeling this year might get a little intesting. Previously in NYC my office was right on 5th ave so we would hear bagpipes from the parade alllll day. I would cross through Grand Central filled with people decked out in green for the parade and leave the office to a stumbling crowd & crowded pubs!

Despite being a “Mc” I’ve never had corn beef & hash (which I am plenty ok with!)

My favorite Saint Patrick’s Day memory is from when my brother and I were little. We would spend the night before Saint Patrick’s Day making “leprechaun traps” and would set them up before bed. Magically, the leprechauns always narrowly escaped the traps but would leave some gold candy coins for us behind!

My favorite St Patrick’s day was the time I got to play the bagpipes at a local bar through a Guinness promotion event. They were much harder to play than it looks, but I managed to make some type of sound come out (although maybe not the most pleasant)!
