St. Patrick’s Day Running Gear

March 7, 2013 by Julie 1,283 Comments

Lunch today snuck up on me!

Before I knew it, my stomach was grumbling and I needed food!

Fact: This meal looks horrendous.

cauliflower sausage scramble

But lots of shredded cheese has a way of making me overlook an unattractive dish!

I began by sautéing a chopped chicken sausage in a skillet while I steamed some cauliflower in the microwave. I then added leftover roasted Brussels sprouts to the skillet, followed by the mashed steamed cauliflower and a boatload of shredded cheese.

Easy, satisfying, ugly and delicious!

March Book Club

With the majority of the votes, the winning book for the PBF March Book Club  is…

the fault in our stars john green

The Fault In Our Stars by John Green. We’ll be discussing this book on the blog on Friday, April 5. I can’t wait to start reading!

Now let’s talk about St. Patrick’s Day running gear…

St. Patrick’s Day Running Gear

Are any of you out there planning to run in a St. Patrick’s Day race?

Ryan, my sister, my sister’s boyfriend and I will be running in a 10K on St. Patrick’s Day and ever since we signed up to participate, we’ve been sending each other costume ideas. You know we like to dress up for races together!

Here are some winners:

More St. Patrick’s Day gear that caught my eye…

  • Green Sparkle Running Skirt

Green sparkle running skirt

I saw a bunch of women wearing fun sparkly skirts over their leggings or compression shorts at the Women’s Half Marathon a few years ago and thought they looked awesome! (Bachelor fans, I think we know Tierra would be all about this one. Sparkle.)

  • BICBands Shamrock Headband

St. Patrick's Day Headbands

You guys know how obsessed I am with these headbands by now. When I saw the shamrock headband on their website, I just had to have it. A headband that doesn’t slip that’s also peppered with lots of little shamrocks!? Oh yes! (Get psyched because YOU have a chance to win a $40 BICBands gift card that you can use toward one at the end of this post!)

  • Target $1 Bin Finds

St. Patrick's Day Costume

Surely I’m not the only one out there who gets suckered into the Target $1 bins? I found a bunch of goodies in the $1 bins last weekend that I picked up for our upcoming race, including blinking bracelets, wigs, light-up rings and more. I was especially pumped about the neck ties!

  • Shamrock Suspenders

Just in case your running shorts are a little too big.

  • Shamrock Compression Socks

Pro Compression Shamrock Marathon Socks

I’m not gonna lie, these PRO Compression shamrock socks shamROCK my socks off. (Sorry, I just can’t help myself.) I saw Monica and SkinnyRunner blog about them last week and was so excited when they sent me a pair to try! (You can use the promo code MARCH for 40% off any of their marathon socks or calf sleeves right now!) I can’t wait to wear them during next Sunday’s 10K!

  • More Fun Knee-High St. Patrick’s Day Socks

Hi Julie! New to (and love!) your blog!! 🙂 I am a Special Education Preschool teacher so my favorite St. Patty’s Day traditions are in my classroom! My kiddos LOVE making leprechaun traps the week leading up to the big day, and then on our magical day, the sneaky leprechaun destroys our classroom, pees in our toilet and sends the kids on a scavenger hunt where he leaves a good ole’ pot o’ gold! We also make shamrock shakes, rainbow crafts, and play a few games! 🙂

My absolute favorite thing to do on St. Patrick’s Day is to dye as much food as possible green! I think it makes for a fun day of eating. I remember as a kid my mom used to do the same thing and dyed our milk green once (which looks kind of gross…not going to lie) and it was so fun!

St. Patty’s Day is one of my favorites! I am part Irish so it’s a fun holiday to celebrate. My favorite St. Patrick’s Day food is definitely corned beef. I am not a fan of cabbage, but a corned beef sandwich with some hot mustard and horse raddish is delicious! I don’t really have a tradition except to have a green beer, but I would love to do a pub crawl for St. Patrick’s Day. The town I live in in California has one, so I just might have to sign up! I don’t have a bic band yet, but they sure do look awesome and would be great for my fly-away bangs!

My favorite St. Patrick’s Day memory was last year as I ran my first half marathon with a college friend down in Virginia Beach. I was terrified at the start but running with a good friend and having all of my training pay off as I crossed the finish line certainly made it the best St. Patrick’s Day ever!

One of my favorite memories would be one of my best friends getting married on St. Patrick’s day. She didn’t make it overly cliche, but she had some some touches that made the theme really cute 🙂 I’ll always think of her wedding day on St. Patty’s day!

Last year for St. Patricks Day, my husband was on deployment so I got together with a couple of the other Navy wives so we could do our own celebration. Any time our Husbands are away for fun Holidays, we make the most of it and celebrate in their honor 🙂 We started our day off with a local 5K race and went to the local downtown area for margaritas at a favorite Mexican restaurant..green margaritas of course! We ended the night with a fun dinner and enjoyed each other’s company. We wore green beads and our favorite green shirts to get in the spirit! This year my Husband will be home, so I’m looking forward to this St. Patty’s day as well!

By far, one of my most favorite things to do on St. Patrick’s Day is to go to parades in the city! I live in New Orleans, and we’re always looking for a reason to celebrate. I love sipping on a beer dyed green, eating burgers, and catching cabbages with my friends and family. Tradition at it’s finest!

I absolutely love Shamrock shakes, green beer and pots of gold 🙂 The funniest St. Patty’s day memory was just last year – long story, but it involved my crazy kids, shamrock shakes and my best friend’s new house (http://sparksfamilylife.blogspot.com/2012/04/lot-of-fun-and-little-chaos.html). Hoping to win a gift certificate for a bic band – I haven’t found one single band that will stay on my head, other than the old school head bands with the teeth 🙂

Favourite thing to eat on St. Patty’s Day is a tough one because I definitely fall into the “overkill” camp. Think green smoothie, salads and tons of avocado! My favourite thing has to be green cupcakes that my college roommates and I made a couple years ago. They looked horrifying, but were possibly the best cupcakes of my life.
