Stink Eye for Sadie

April 12, 2013 by Julie 133 Comments

Today is going to be one of those days that doesn’t slow down until I crawl into bed tonight.

It began nice and early… extra early, actually.

As you may know, Ryan and I let Sadie sleep in our bedroom at night. Okay, so she actually sleeps in our bed. This image should give you a good idea about our nighttime slumber:

Sleeping with a Dog

(Source)

That picture is one of my all-time favorite Pinterest finds because it is so true. Sadie likes to begin the night curled up in the tiniest little ball. By the time the morning rolls around, she ends up spread out with rigor mortis legs pushing into our sides. We are such suckers.

Vizsla Sleeping

Anyway, for the past two nights in a row, Sadie has hopped out of bed 20 minutes before our alarm was set to go off. Apparently she needed a 4:30 a.m. bathroom break.

Sadie usually sleeps through the night, so this was rather unusual. It is really hard to fall back asleep knowing you have to get up 20 minutes later, so Sadie got the stink eye from us all morning… which didn’t seem to faze her in the least.

Workout + Breakfast

Today’s workout rounded out week two of Best Body Boot Camp! Six weeks to go!

Once we were done at the gym, Ryan and I headed home for breakfast.

I made myself an egg scramble with chicken sausage, spinach, onion and feta cheese.

scrambled eggs with sausage and feta 030

So savory!

I’m off to blow dry my hair and head out to work for a new-hire orientation. Then it’s off to Orlando for bachelorette party time!!!!

Question of the Morning

  • If you have a pet, where does your pet sleep?

Be sure to follow PBFingers on Instagram and Facebook!

I'd love to connect with you! I am always so grateful when you let me know you tried one of my recipes or workouts and tag me in your photos or updates. Thank you so much!!!

My cat has been doing this lately too! I swear it’s between 20-30 minutes before my alarm goes off, and it’s so frustrating! I can never fall asleep again, so my mornings begin before the 5:00 hour.. something that I hate!

That was like a cat I had for awhile, he’d start sleeping in between my legs and by the morning he’d be up by my head, on my pillow and nudging me in the face until I woke up to feed him.

OMG, this totally sounds like my dog! We made the ‘mistake’ of letting him sleep with us when he was a puppy and now it seems like more work to re-train him to sleep on his own bed on the floor. Everything is great when we go to sleep (he curls up in a ball by our feet) but as the night goes on, he sprawls out and takes up half of the bed. And steals my covers!

Charlee sleeps in bed with us. She typically lays down by my feet but lately she has started using our pillows (she’s a shih tzu). This morning I actually rolled on top of her and she didn’t even care!

Our dog, Molly, with legs like the NYC Rocketts sleeps in our bed too. We just had to go out and buy a King to fit all 3 of us! She still crowds us out even with all that room. Wouldn’t have it any other way though. Love our girl.

I laughed out loud while reading about Sadie! We recently have been letting our lab puppy, Zoey sleep in our bed. It works out well, until she decides she’s ready to get the day started and proceeds to have play time in the bedroom, including walking all over our heads to get us up! we are suckers too 🙂

Abby used to sleep with me before I got married. . . now there just isn’t enough room! She sleeps on her blanket at the end of the bed. We do have snuggle time before bed where she gets up and gets lots of love and then as soon as the lights go out, she jumps down. . . but when Scott is gone – she is sleeping in bed with me – just like Sadie – total bed hog!

My family’s dog sleeps in bed with my parents, then after they get up and go to work, she goes to my brothers bed since his room overlooks the driveway. She can stand on his bed and monitor who is coming and going!

We have two dogs — a fox hound and a cairn terrier. They have to sleep in the kitchen on their dog beds when my husband, Fernando, is home, but when he’s away —- woo hoo! They get to sleep with me, which is a treat for all three of us. The little one curls up with his back against mine, and the big one stretches out alongside me so I can rest my arm on her back. It’s probably not the greatest idea in terms of sleep quality, but it is just so peaceful and warm being part of a dog pile that I can’t resist! (don’t tell Fernando!).

We just transitioned our dog, Watson, into our room but are doing our best to stay firm on the ‘no dogs in bed’ rule. We’ve made it over a week, but we’ll see how long it lasts! He’s got a hurt paw and has woken me up in the middle of the night for the past few days after pulling off his bandage, so I’m right there with you on the stink eye. Yet, dogs just so cute and loveable that you can’t stay mad at them for long!

As much as I would love to snuggle up with my fluffy little Louie (our Shih Tzu puppy), we still put him in a crate at night. I sleep soundly knowing he is contained and not getting into any trouble. He seems to like it as well, so that makes it easier on me. 🙂

I have a boyfriend who is 6’6″ and a dog that weighs 120 pounds, so if the dog slept in our bed, there would be no room for me! The dog also happens to be pretty pathetic and he doesn’t think he can jump all the way onto the bed by himself, so it’s not an issue to keep him out. He just puts his front paws up and looks at you like, “a little help here?”

I am dying looking at Sadie’s pike position photo. Rally will get in that position and I think it is the cutest thing ever. He does the rigor mortis straight arms to me a lot. He gets the jimmy legs which means his back legs will jerk and kick during the night. Last night he managed to be the little spoon and I was on the complete edge of the bed. Meanwhile, husband said he slept great…likely due to having the 7/8th of the bed.

We have an almost 1 year old Black Lab. She definitely rules the house, however the one place she is not allowed is our bed (We figure that’s the one place we want to keep “black dog-hair free!). She’s never even been on it! We put her to bed on her pillow every night in the living room, but about 3 minutes later we always hear her gracefully crawl up on the couch! And she also seems to know when our alarm clock is supposed to go off, because she always wakes up about 2 minutes before it and comes in to let us know it’s time to wake up… 🙁 She gets the stink eye almost every morning!

My MinPin is the worst, she wants the heat, so she will snuggle up close back to back and it’s really nice against my back, until she gets too hot, rolls over and starts pushing me away. And of course in my sleep, I move away until I am hanging on to the edge of the mattress. But I love having her in bed, it’s so cute in the morning to wake up, and she is laying like a little human with her head out and the covers up over her shoulders. lol…I should have had babies, because it must be the same sort of feeling to see a baby sleeping so sweetly (probably even better to see a real baby)….lol…aren’t you guys going to start that soon?!!!!

I’ve actually never let my dog sleep in my bed because, as a puppy, I was always afraid that I would roll over and squish her, and I have a mild allergy to dogs so the hair in my bed probably wouldn’t be a good thing for me. Instead, my girl sleeps in a little bed next to my bed and she kind of adores it. Some days it’s hard to get her out of there.

Oh man, I could never let a dog the size of a small to medium human sleep in our bed…mama needs her space! LOL That said, when we had a dog, she was a 6 lb ball of terrier who liked to rotate between the crook of my knees and the Mr’s knees under the covers depending on her mood. In the morning, we’d wake up and she’d be outstretched with her back against my butt and her paws digging into the Mr’s thighs. I should’ve thought to take pics of paw prints in his flesh.

My dog, Lucca, has his own bed and a mat to sleep on, which is where he sleeps most of the time. But every once in a while he will ‘sneak’on our bed in the middle of the night, on my side and curl up next to me. Like Sadie, he starts out in a ball but by AM he is all stretched out and I’m then the one in the ball all squished up against my boyfriend. LOL

I so know how you feel. My pup Seamus has been waking me up like 30-45 min early. I thought it was the time change but he is still doing it. He does the jump off the bed, runs around it then gets back on deal. I can sometimes tell him to lay down and he will for 5 seconds before the running around the bed continues or running to the stairs and whining. I figure I can manage on 5 hours of sleep, right? Ugh. So I totally feel your pain!

HA! That picture totally depicts our dog, too, which is why he doesn’t sleep with us anymore. We got him a nice dog bed that’s on the floor right next to our bed and he sleeps there, but often moves to the guest bed or the couch in the middle of the night. Our smaller dog sleeps in his crate, which he loves!

I have a cat, so naturally she does what she wants. I love her to death but absolutely HATE when she wakes me up in the middle of the night (or right before my alarm is set to go off!). She typically sleeps by my feet, but occasionally I wake up and find her curled up right next to me. She doesn’t typically sleep on top of my face or anything, but she has been known to wake me up by licking my eyelids occasionally. Nothing says “good morning, mom” like a eyelid bath, right?!

Since my puppy was little, he has a designated “bedtime” and he sleeps in an entirely seperate room in a play pen. He actually knows when it’s time for him to go “nighty-night” and then I get him out in the morning after I’ve woken up and drank some coffee. My mom laughs because once I put him to bed at night, I’m like a mother who needs a break haha! It’s nice, though, because he has been trained to hold his potty break for the whole night and I don’t get disturbed throughout the night to get up!

This post is perfectly timed. We have a 6 1/2 month old German Shepherd who sleeps in the bed with us. She is shedding like crazy right now so we have a blanket laid down on half the bed for her. We sleep in a king bed, she gets half, and we share the other half… funny how that works. BUT last night my cat spent the night because of some work being done at my apartment and it was a night from absolute H E double hockey stick. So much excitement, whining, meowing, pants, door scratching. I am exhausted.
