Swimmer Puppy Syndrome

September 21, 2011 by Julie 141 Comments

Back in the gym nice and early for another quality workout!

Today’s workout began with 20 minutes on the elliptical.

While peddling away, I  watched a story about an adorable puppy that was rescued from a trash bag in Orlando. A horrible breeder threw the puppy away because it couldn’t walk. (It has a condition called “swimmer puppy syndrome” where puppies remain on their chest and their chest wall flattens out.)

With the help of hydrotherapy in the pool and massages, the puppy, Harper, is taking her first steps at 11 weeks old.

How adorable is Harper!? Those eye bore right into my soul. I hope she lives a long and happy life.

After my time on the elliptical was up, it was off to the weight room to complete a leg workout that included the following exercises:

  • Squats
  • Lunges
  • Deadlifts
  • One-legged leg press
  • Hamstring curls

I upped my weights during squats today and worked hard to get 100 squats again. This time I needed a break after 60 squats in a row, but I finished the remaining 40 in one swoop.

My legs felt fatigued but not totally beat after this workout which is a good thing since I have a five-mile run on the agenda tomorrow.

Breakfast

Breakfast today was protein-packed!

scrambled eggs with chicken sausage 015

Do you guys add milk to your scrambled eggs? I always do, but Ryan never does.

My scrambled eggs were made with two eggs, two small chicken breakfast sausages, milk and a quarter of a cup of shredded cheese.

The sausages really amped up the flavor profile of this dish.

Page Updates

Yesterday I spent some time revamping a couple of my recipe pages to hopefully make them a little more organized with the use of categories. I added new favorite recipes to the mix as well!

  • Breakfast
  • Dinner
  • Snacks
  • Desserts, Baked Goods and Sweet Treats (<— Definitely make the pumpkin spice cookies on this page this fall! They’re Ryan’s all-time favorite cookie and are ridiculously easy to make.)

I have two rescue pups at home and they are my life!! My hubby and I don’t know what we did before we got them. The people who did this to that precious puppy deserve to be shot…I’m sorry but they do! Karma will get them
On a happier note, I don’t add milk to my eggies. I’ve noticed you have been eating eggs alot for b fast (which I love!) are you trying to up your protein or are you just on a egg kick? haha. I get on kicks all the time! have a good day

just on an egg kick! and i also recently started making ryan breakfast too (he used to eat at the work cafeteria at his old job) and he likes eggs. once i start making eggs for him, i get a craving for them as well and always end up making them for me, too.

haha I’m the same way. I make b fast for my hubby every am and I used to make mine while making his and I would always end up craving eggs (his favorite) while I was stuck with my oatmeal. Or I would make him oatmeal and me something else and also have food envy. I’m so weird. It’s just easier to eat similiar b fasts!

    That’s so sad–poor puppy!

I used to make my eggs with a splash of milk, but now I usually just add liquid egg whites or nothing at all. Taste-wise, I don’t notice much of a difference, but I’ve found that the eggs become extremely runny and thin if you add too much milk.

I use either a splash of milk or a little water – the liquid paired with the beating adds to the fluff factor. Scrambles need fluff!

Animal cruelty stories break my heart. I’m glad this one may at least have a happy ending.

To answer your egg question… I usually only add a splash when I make eggs, but my husband adds way more. I prefer the less is more approach when it comes to adding milk!

that makes me want to cry the thought of someone even thinking of throwing a poor animal in a trash bag. Such an innocent and helpless animal. People need think again when pondering the thought of getting dogs from breeders or pet stores. There are so many dogs that are homeless or abused that are in shelters. Especially high kill shelters. We are giving them power that they don’t deserve, animals should not be seen as money or a way to make a living.

And what a great workout – I’m loving your workouts recently. I think wrote that in a recent comment too, but it is so true so I shall have to reiterate it. 😉 They’ve been helping my jumpstart my weight lifting sessions at the gym too – and that 100 squats thing is awesome! I tend to do two sets of 50 but I’m working up.

That puppy story is amaazing. bless. how terrible that someone would do that to an innocent dog, it breaks my heart, but I am so glad he is in safe hands now <3

You should definitely try this recipe sometime soon if you like easy baking. Just use a box of cake mix (of your choice) mixed with A CAN of soda. And that’s it, I swear! Sooo good and moist and you can switch up flavors ridiculously easy, like a chocolate cherry coke cake or a vanilla grape one! It’s a weight watchers recipe I think.. Idk how it works, buts it’s amazing.

Those eggs look delicious. My parents usually added milk to our scrambled eggs at home, but when I make them for myself I’m lazy and just mash the egg all up (if I even take the time to scramble it in the first place…fried eggs ftw).

That puppy story is horrifying! I’m glad the dog will probably be okay, but man. I don’t understand how people can treat animals like they’re not living, breathing creatures.
