We started talking about how cool it was that we not only finished at the exact same time, but all of our splits were identical as well.
Then Ryan said, “I wonder how we placed.”
I knew what he meant.
I wonder who actually won.
We hurriedly opened up his laptop and entered our information into the Savannah Rock ‘n’ Roll results site.
Someone started gloating and that someone wasn’t me.
Not only did Ryan “beat” me according to the technical results, but another person somehow squeezed in between us with their identical time. (I feel like it was Sadie’s spirit. I swear that dog body slams into us whenever we try to hug without her.)
Don’t be fooled by the hand holding. One mile before the finish I was cursing Ryan and hating him for making me run that fast.
All was forgiven at the finish line.
Dinner tonight was roasted chicken with veggies (and a bunch of granola that I ate while waiting for the chicken to finish cooking).
I prepared the chicken using the same incredibly simple recipe I used for the first time back in September, only I used thyme in place of the paprika.
I ate a breast, leg and lots of veggies and picked at the chicken at the table (so classy) before wrapping up the rest and storing it in the fridge to enjoy another day.
And now more of that granola is calling my name…
The Sing Off is on tonight!

I can’t believe Ryan beat you even though you had the same time..crazy!
Your roasted chicken looks moist and delicious..I’ve always been hesitant to cook a whole one..but this looks easy..thanks!
Brittany @ GOtheXtraMile says
Haha that’s so funny that you had the same exact stats! That is still awesome 😀 You can never go wrong with granola. Congrats to the winner of the giveaway!
Savannah @ Sweet and Savvy says
I LOVE that picture of you and Ryan holding hands! 🙂
Alyssa @ Life of bLyss says
that hand-holding. it’s adorable. next race I run, I’m grabbing the nearest dude at the finish line so I can have that cute of a finish line picture.
…aaand according to that photo finish, I think I see a female leg juuust a little bit farther in front.
i thought the same thing. exactly why i posted the photo. I WIN! 😀
Great finish line photo! You can always photoshop Sadie into the 2064 spot 🙂
Erica @ For the Sake of Cake says
That picture of you & Ryan crossing the finish line together is really cute!
Katie @ Peace Love and Oats says
That is so unfair!!! You had the same time! I wonder how they do that??
Seeing you guys cross the finish together makes me want to force my boyfriend to train for a race with me : ) Photo op!
You are CLEARLY in front of Ryan at the finish line…pictures never lie! Congratulations all the same on your awesome accomplishment!
i demand a recount!
Ashley @ My Food 'N' Fitness Diaries says
Love the photo of you two holding hands at the finish line. You should frame that if you can! What a fun memory together.
Your chicken looks delicious! I meant to try out the recipe you used last time you made one, and I completely spaced it. Thanks for the reminder! 😉
love the finish line photos!!! you guys look like you just went for a jog. if that were me i’d look like hell. haha.

that chicken looks delicious! 🙂
Lauren @ What Lauren Likes says
Congrats to the other Lauren! Hahaha 🙂 Chicken looks fab!
A man with cystic fibrosis proposed to his now fiance after the New York Marathon this weekend! I’d say they won that marathon: http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2011/11/07/marriage-proposal_n_1080019.html
Sadie is most definitely the culprit! She just had to finish in front of you:)
I love that picture of you and Ryan running across the finish line holding hands! Too cute 🙂
Your dinner looks delicious! I’ve been loving roasted chicken lately but I’ve been picking up a rotisserie chicken at the store. I should make one myself. It looks so good.
Paula @ Eat: Watch: Run says
I know that hand holding was so that girl behind you couldn’t get by. 😉
you’re on to us.
chelsey @ clean eating chelsey says
Charlie doesn’t let us hug either – it’s horrible! He will jump on on top of us because he can’t stand to be left out. We call it “family time” when he comes and interupts our hugging.
It’s so funny that someone got in between the two of you in the overall placing!
hehe, love pic of you guys where you look like you’re shouting and raising your arms. 🙂 You guys are too cute. 😀 Oh btw, are you sure you didn’t just slow down for Ryan? 😉 haha just kidding.
Joelle (On A Pink Typewriter) says
That picture of you crossing the finish line is awesome- you look so stinkin’ happy!!
Clare @ Fitting It All In says
Too funny. My best friend and I crossed the finish line of our first marathon holding hands, but I actually beat her. That was never discussed.
too funny! how the heck did someone get in between yalls times? weird!
yall look so cute crossing the finish together! love it!
Congrats on the race!!! I loved that you wrote that you snapped at Ryan, because I unintentionally snap at my fiance when we go running and then feel bad especially when we PR. Tis life and relationships!
i am an evil person to run with! 🙂
Annette @ EnjoyYourHealthyLife says
LOVE that you all finished together. SO cute 🙂
I totally love the SingOff–it is ALL about VocalPOINT!! Wahoo!!
Kristen @ notsodomesticated says
Hahaha I’m the same way with Brandon … I’ll be all mean and snap at him in the middle of the long run, but then I’m loving him for his encouragement at the end! 🙂 Too funny! Congrats again on a great job!
exactly! ryan said that if we would not have achieved our sub-2 hr. goal, our relationship would be in serious trouble right now. 🙂
Casey @ Pocket Full of Sunshine says
Haha you were def in front of Ryan! Recount. 🙂
Yayyyy!! So excited that I won!!! Even more happy for you two that you finished – and together! Now i just need to get my hubby to train for one with me…work in progress 🙂 Thanks for everything, Julie!!

You guys are seriously the cutest ever. I LOVE the finish line hand-holding pic.
Lordy mercy, ya’ll sound so much like my husband and I. Always competing :-). I wish I had the ability to even run the marathon in even 6 hours lol.
Your chicken always look fabulous; you should start shipping out samples!
ship the samples to me
You guys are adorable! Love the hand holding, congratulations!
I totally curse and get so pissy at my boy-friend when he tries to make me a speed demon like himself haha. But we’re all happy and good again once we finish though just like you guys 🙂
Gina @ Running to the Kitchen says
I bet that chicken tastes delicious but I’m embarassed for the poor little guy with those pictures! haha

I’m going through boyfriend struggles—-long term relationship struggles to be exact and I’d love to hear your opinions and experiences! 🙂 thanks!
Ah u and Ryan are adorable- a lil friendly competition never hurt :)..only makes things interesting!
That’s amazeballs! Fast running pace, chick! Awesome news…I get to test out 2 pairs of running shoes for Self Magazine 2012 awards!! Have you ever done that? Or participating in this one? I’m super excited, I feel special!! Next race is 5 mile Turkey Trot!

Julie- congrats on you half! That’s awesome that you and Ryan ran together. I’m lucky if my husband gets the day of work to come and watch me race. ha!
BTW- you guys take the best race photos. I am the most unphotogenic racer around!!!
hey julie, this makes me laugh, u two remind me of my boyfriend and I, we also run together but there is always that bit of competitiveness! We had the exact same times like you when we did a 10k and yet on the offical site it said he beat my by one place!! he he. BTW u always look sooo pretty!! How is that possible when u have just ran 13.1 miles..?? keep up ur blog, i love reading it here from the UK 🙂
