The Smell of Sadie

May 3, 2012 by Julie 139 Comments

I bet that blog post title made you think I’ll be talking about some rank smell omitted by the lovely Sadie this morning.

In reality, I’ll be discussing just the opposite.

smell glorious

Really though, she does.

And she’s an expert poser, in case you haven’t noticed. She’s not above nudity.

I know this may sound asinine to many of you out there, but Sadie’s smell is one of my all-time favorite things in the entire world.

sadie 034

Vizslas, as a breed, are highly recommended to those who want a (crazy) dog that doesn’t omit “that doggy smell.” Their coat is very low maintenance and the only time Sadie smells like a stinky dog is after a day at the beach.

sadie 030

(She was cracking me up this morning with those facials!)

Sadie’s coat smells like a mix of comfort, love and home. I breathe her in before bed and in the morning and her smell, coupled with her overzealous cuddling, relaxes me and puts me at ease. It grounds me and forces me to be in the moment and soak up her love.

And if I decide not to be in the moment and love her back, this happens…

sadie 045

Every time. This dog seriously loves to be chest-to-chest and face-to-face.

Needy?

I think so.

Breakfast

After annoying Sadie with my camera this morning, I headed into the kitchen to make breakfast.

Ryan and I slept in until 6:30 a.m. and I plan to use my normal walk time with Sadie to go for a run for today’s workout. The extra 90 minutes of sleep were much appreciated.

breakfast

My morning meal included another egg, cheese and jelly sandwich, served with a side of tiramisu coffee from The Fresh Market.

egg sandwich

coffee

The tiramisu coffee flavor was a winner. Of the coffee samples my mom gave me last weekend, so far my favorite is the crème brulee, but the tiramisu is gunning for second place.

Time to take Sadie for a run before it gets too hot outside.

Hope your day is full of good-smelling things!

Question of the Morning

  • Do you love the smell of anything unusual?
  • Do you enjoy the smell of your pet?

Be sure to follow PBFingers on Instagram and Facebook!

I'd love to connect with you! I am always so grateful when you let me know you tried one of my recipes or workouts and tag me in your photos or updates. Thank you so much!!!

Oh good I’m not the only one who loves smelling their dog! I think that my dog’s paws’ smells like cool ranch doritos especially when she sleeps. I inhale her aroma every day and I don’t care if people think I’m weird but it brings me comfort and joy :).

I love the smell of my dog Lottie, usually. Typically, her “need a bath” smell is something like popcorn. No joke – the dog smells like popcorn at her worst. That is not too bad 🙂

this only makes my longing for a dog even WORSE!!! lol. I’ve been married for 5 months and it has been my MISSION to get my hubby on board for getting a dog. it’s ridiculous how stubborn he is…maybe ill just show him this post to help sway him. sigh.

Haha! I love the way our golden retriever smells too! He rarely gets stinky, unless he’s been swimming in the river/lake (no beaches in idaho!). On the other hand, our German shepherd puppy is the stinkiest! Oh well, we still love him.

I love the smell of permanent markers and gas – is that weird? Have obviously not TOO much though, I’m not a druggy!!

I absolutely LOVE the smell of my puppy too! She’s a West Highland Terrier/Poodle mix and she smells heavenly!! I actually don’t like after she’s just been bathed because you just smell the shampoo. Her natural smell is so comforting 🙂

Haley isn’t a smelly dog (she’s Catahoula/cattledog) but her ears are always RANK! I never understand that – its not like she gets water in them!

She’s also a ridiculously needy pup. I’ve never met one who was more into spooning or laying on top of me than Haley!

I totally know what you mean. While I don’t think either of my dogs has a “dog” smell, the vizsla is definitely the better smelling of the two. It takes some swimming or a couple of days in a row of the park to get him smelling “doggy”. Even more weird, I think he smells like syrup lol. And he definitely has frito paws too! In fact, both of my dogs do! Love that smell 🙂

so weird but my husband loves the smell of our frenchie’s paws….he is such a cuddle bug and I always see Jon *my husband) sniffing his paws and smiling! I think they smell like concrete haha. But I do love the smell of Ernie (our frenchie). I was sad when he lost the puppy smell, he is 18 months now, but I still love his smell!

I completely agree!! I have 2 dogs and I always say they smell like a blankie. You know like when a toddler has a favorite blanket and they walk around with it up against their nose, and they borrow their faces in it at night to smell it? That’s how I feel about my dogs! They are my security blanket through and through 🙂

My husband and I have always joked about our dog’s feet smelling like fritos also! Glad to know we aren’t the only crazy ones. Her smell always comforts me especially if I’m having a bad day.

I actually wonder if Elly (our dog who we adopted from a humane society) is part vizsla because while her coloring isn’t the same as a vizsla, the body shape/size is extremely similar. Plus she’s super energetic and definitely a velcro dog. We saw another dog at Petsmart who was almost her twin, and the Petsmart people knew the dog was a vizsla mix but weren’t sure which other breeds were in the cocktail.

I totally know what you mean! My puppy doesn’t smell like a dog either, just happiness 🙂 except when she has rolled in mud and we have to bathe her… Auroura does the same thing as Sadie and likes to sit on your face, this morning she was chewing on a rawhide and sitting on my lap just wasn’t close enough. She sat on my chest and put the rawhide on my head hahaha.

I LOVE the intense chlorine smell of certain Hotel hallways or hotel pools. As a kid my family all got together for Thanksgiving at my aunts and we always stayed in the same very chlorine smelling hotel. We would play hide & seek in the hotel hallways and hang out in the pool in swimmies. Memories 🙂

I am the QUEEN of weird smells. I love how my American Bulldog smells precisely because he DOES smell ‘doggy’! Our other dogs are greyhounds, and they’re similar to Sadie in that they really don’t have a smell, so when we got Gus, our AB, I was so happy to have that stink around again! Also, I love the smell of horse manure and skunk, but I can’t stand anything flowery or perfumey. I’m all backwards!
