TRX Hamstring Curls and Cake Talk

September 29, 2011 by Julie 142 Comments

Ryan taught me a new move at the gym today involving the TRX straps.

trx hamstring curls

(Source)

TRX hamstring curls are no joke. I hope I can walk tomorrow. My hamstrings were burning in a way they’ve never burned before.

Ryan told me to try doing the curls one leg at a time… continuously. Sweet Jeebus.

Today’s workout included the hamstring curls in this leg workout:

Exercise Reps Sets
Lunges (one leg at a time) 15 3
Single leg squats (one leg at a time) 15 3
Squats 15 – 20 3
Deadlifts 15 3
One-legged leg press 15 3
TRX hamstring curls 15 1
TRX hamstring curls (alternating legs) 10 3
Step ups (with no weight) 90 seconds 1

Breakfast

Today’s breakfast was nice and basic.

apple and peach salad 001

Whole grains + Fresh fruit + Healthy fat + Protein

Honey and peanut butter are such a winning combination.

A simple fruit salad rounded out the meal with chopped apple and white nectarine.

Birthday Cake Discussions

Last night Ryan and I started talking about birthday cakes. His birthday is next week and I asked him if red velvet was still his favorite kind of cake or if his tastes have changed at all.

He surprised me when he said that he was craving marble cake with buttercream icing at the moment!

I have to think my family is rubbing off on him because marble cake was always my dad’s number one birthday cake choice and mine as well up until a couple of years ago when our whole family seemed to shift to red velvet (with buttercream icing, not the traditional cream cheese icing). Marble cake still pops up frequently in the Bream household.

I can’t help but love the fact that Ryan’s two favorite cake flavors are my two favorites as well. Ryan’s third runner up is Funfetti cake which is another one of my favorites. I actually talked about making Funfetti cake our wedding cake!

wedding cake

Speaking of wedding cake… I can’t wait to bust out the top tier of our cake our wedding cake from the freezer to enjoy on our anniversary. It’s been calling to me from the back of my parents’ freezer every time we visit them in St. Pete.

I wish we would’ve saved a piece of the groom’s cake, too!

Questions of the Morning

  • What is your favorite kind of cake?
  • What flavor was your wedding cake or what flavor would you want it to be?
  • What was the best wedding cake you ever had?

My favorite cake is red velvet with buttercream icing, which was also the flavor of our wedding cake. The best wedding cake I’ve ever had at another wedding was pumpkin spice wedding cake. It was fantastic and was served in the spring because the bride loved it so much and wasn’t about to let the seasons dictate her wedding cake!

I love marble cake, but my absolute favorite is chocolate with chocolate icing. But, cake is cake. I’m not too picky. I won’t turn a piece down.

Also, I’m going to shamelessly plug my participation in the Alzheimer’s Walk this weekend and post a link to my donation page for anyone interested in donating to the cause to end Alzheimer’s. 🙂

That’s so funny about the FUNFETTI WEDDING CAKE because my husband and I ACTUALLY DID THAT! We had two choices: Chocolate or Funfetti. Everyone’s favorite was the funfetti! I was excited about eating the top tier too, but unfortunately it was a little dry from being in the freezer. We actually ordered a little mini cake from the same baker that did our wedding cake so that we had something tasty to celebrate with after taking our obligatory bites of 1-yr old cake.

Good luck with the anniversary wedding cake. I had heard from our friends that it wouldn’t be so tasty. So, instead of waiting for our 1 year anniversary, I cut our top layer into 12 pieces, vacuum sealed each piece, and then froze it. We got married on 4/4/09, so we ate a piece on the 4th of each month!

I also, just had this conversation with my husband. He was craving marble cake too. How funny!

The TRX is intense! You should try doing your ab workouts on it; they’re killer. I actually do a TRX boot camp every Wednesday, and it makes you hit your muscles in a way you didn’t think possible (we had to do the hamstring curls last night, so I’m feeling just as sore as you will feel tomorrow lol).

Anyone who likes cake should try Blue Bunny “Birthday Party” flavor Ice Cream. It is TO DIE FOR! It contains white cake batter flavor ice cream with funfetti pieces/sprinkles mixed in. There’s also a ribbon of blue frosting running throughout. My bf calls it Type 2 diabetes in a bowl, but I don’t care. I love it.

I love chocolate cake, carrot cake and red velvet all the same.

If I can have a 3 layer cake of all those flavors…I would be in cake heaven. The icing would be buttercream with coconut flakes. Yummy!

We had a destination wedding so bringing home the cake was not an option. So for our 1st wedding anniversary, we will just order (or I will bake) a replica of our wedding cake.

Wow, your wedding anniversary is coming soon already? Time flew by so fast. Now that you have the travel bug…may I suggest a weekend getaway around your anniversary 🙂

I’m not a cake person at all. For me it’s a vehicle or the frosting. For birthdays I always want brownies and for our wedding we went with a dessert bar instead of the cake. If I had to choose, I would go with molten chocolate cake because of the creamy center!

And it tastes like ice cream when frozen! My sis made it for my bday last year cuz im such a Reeses gal- and loved it so much she requested it for hers! Here’s the link if ya wanna check it out- http://smittenkitchen.com/2008/08/chocolate-peanut-butter-cake/ It was perfect for her 13th bday! Also we made this buttercream one for mi padre- http://sweetapolita.com/2010/10/classic-vanilla-butter-cake/. Whenever i need a bday cake, her site is my go to. She has a bunch of fun cakes, frostings, fillings and tutorials. I found her tutorial for the perfect buttercream VERY helpful. Great for amateur (me) and not so amateur(you) bakers. My wedding cake was actually a cupcake cake. We used the place in St. Pete, A Cupcake Spot, that I am pretty sure I have seen pop up on your blog once before. I chose four flavors: better thans (chocolate chip) with cream cheese frosting; better thans with chocolate frosting, carrot cake with cream cheese, and lemon with raspberry cream cheese frosting. The beauty of a cupcake cake is that you can have as many flavors as you want!!
