TRX Workout

September 19, 2013 by Julie 60 Comments

I headed to work nice and early this morning with all of my meals packed for the day. I kicked off my time at the gym with a bowl of overnight oats in the break room before it was time to teach.

The first class I taught today was my TRX class. It is quickly becoming my favorite!

TRX

I try my best to keep things moving and pair a TRX exercise with a plyometric or cardio-based exercise so everyone sweats and leaves the class feeling like they got a great workout. The class is supposed to be an “athlete level” class, so I want the difficulty level to reflect that, but I am also cognizant of the fact that there are still beginners that want to take the class, so I try to make everything scalable and offer modifications.

Here’s an example of the first circuit we did two times through to kick off today’s class:

TRX Workout

Links to some video demos:

  • TRX Supermans
  • TRX Tricep Extensions
  • Lunge with Front Kick

In between teaching TRX and teaching water fitness, I completed my own workout that focused on strength training my bicep and triceps before grabbing lunch in the break room.

(As always, I snapped this picture at home before I packed it up last night so I could avoid a break room photo shoot.)

DSC_0432

In my bowl:

  • Chicken sausage
  • Cauliflower sautéed in olive oil and seasoned with garlic salt
  • Avocado

Now I’m home and Sadie is begging for some attention. Time to entertain the pup!

Question of the Afternoon

  • What is the most fun group exercise class you’ve ever taken?

I think Jazzercise may take first prize for the most FUN workout out there in my book. That class is a BLAST! I also had a lot of fun during the trampoline workout we did at FitBloggin’ this year. And you know I have a soft spot in my heart for BodyPump.

Be sure to follow PBFingers on Instagram and Facebook!

I'd love to connect with you! I am always so grateful when you let me know you tried one of my recipes or workouts and tag me in your photos or updates. Thank you so much!!!

Your TRX workout like a great mix of strength training and plyometrics!

My favorite group workout is probably BodyPump! A spin class with a great instructor and electropop playlist is also pretty great!

Off topic to your question, but I had to look at your lunch photos and then read what was included. I admit to not getting a good night’s sleep last night, but I kept seeing the cauliflower and thinking it was some sort of brain! Obviously time for an afternoon cup of tea!

My gym has a bootcamp or “team training” class that I love! They have different levels, from beginner to advanced so it is very accommodating. We use the TRX bands and it kicks my butt! You really can do anything with those! I’ve realized that the older I get, the more I need classes to keep me motivated. 🙂

My gym charges extra for the TRX classes so I’ve never taken one. I recently took a Barre class that I loved. I used to be a dancer so that class was perfect for me! I also took a RIPPED class that was really fun, not sure if you’ve heard of it. It goes in circuits throughout the whole thing, so I feel like you would like it!

It’s mot necessarily ‘fun’ but the best class I’ve taken that is the most relaxing is bikram yoga where the room is really hot when you do it.

Your lunch looks delicious! I’m excited for overnight oats for breakfast this morning!

I love the TRX! It’s one of the few workouts that literally leaves my arms shaking when I’m done. My favorite is to do tabattas with 20 seconds on 10 seconds off for 5-6 rounds of the same exercise.

I love my TRX class! My daughter & I take it Monday, Thursday & Saturday, it’s always the same people in class and our instructor even said we are one of her favorite groups because we all work hard, but are also total goofballs and make it fun for her too.

The think I have loved most about TRX is that you work at your own level; I’m not the fittest person in the world and this class has let me work at my own pace and I have been getting stronger every week and better at more advanced moves.

your workout looks great! do your co-workers not know/ follow your blog? I would think since it’s such a large part of your life, you’d share it! Then, that way, you wouldn’t have to worry about the awkward photo shoot, cause they’d understand / know it was just for the blog! Do you hide this part of your life?

I do Orange Theory now and LOVE it!! They usually incorporate the TRX bands into the workout in some capacity – even if only for a few exercises. For some reason I find those TRX workouts so hard!! They bands look so innocent just hanging there – then you start using them and it’s amazing how quickly the exercises become so challenging!! I can’t imagine a whole workout with them…exhausting! 🙂

I have tries ALL kinds of group exercises classes and I have to say, Jazzercise wins hands down. It is the most fun AND effective workout in group fitness. You get it all in an hour, cardio, strength, and stretch. It has been keeping me fit for more than 25 years and it has evolved with the times. I am intrigued with TRX and will be giving it a try and possibly adding to my cross-training regimen. Thanks for the lunch idea – looks delicious!
