Taste of the Tropics

October 13, 2010 by Julie 44 Comments

My breakfast this morning made me want to teleport to a tropical beach!

Wastin' Away Again in Margaritaville...

I made myself a tropical yogurt bowl that included:

  • 1 c. pineapple Greek yogurt
  • 1/2 tsp. coconut extract
  • 1 kiwi, sliced
  • “Overnight” barley (I put this on top of the yogurt last night & let it soften in the fridge overnight)

Tropical Delight

I also enjoyed a banana on the side.

Kiwi + Barley + Yog

Spoonful of the Tropics

When I sliced the kiwi, I took a cue from Kath and actually ate the skin! It was fuzzy but I enjoyed it! Who knew kiwi skins were edible?

As I enjoyed my tropical dish, I started thinking about all of the tropical places I would like to visit in my lifetime:

  • St. Lucia (Honeymoon, what, what!? 🙂 )
  • The Maldives (Ryan and I have a dream of going to this resort)
  • Hawaii
  • Australia
  • St. Barts

I better get traveling! 😀

Questions of the Morning

  • What tropical location would you like to visit?
  • What has been your favorite tropical vacation destination?

My favorite tropical vacation destination would have to be Costa Rica. I went with my family when I was younger and had the best time zip lining, swimming in the ocean and exploring the jungle.

I'd love to connect with you! I am always so grateful when you let me know you tried one of my recipes or workouts and tag me in your photos or updates. Thank you so much!!!

I would love to go to Costa Rica! We went to Jamaica for my brothers wedding last year which was beautiful, Hawaii was absolutely gorgeous, and St. John was also just as lovely. 🙂 I love, love, love beach vacations where you can be lazy!

I’ve never had kiwi fuzz, but I guess it’s not that different from eating the apple peel…funny how we pick only eat certain skins!!

St. Bart’s is gorgeous, as is St. Maarten, right next door. I’d love to go to Fiji one day!

A taste of summer! I’ve never eaten the kiwi skin, even though I hear it’s ok. It’s just too weird for me! Love the ocean pic:)

I would love to go to Costa Rica! I love the adventure-oriented, tropical atmosphere.

I went to the Dominican Republic this spring as part of a university learning experience course. It was great!

Then I went back to Mexico, Guatemala and El Salvadore this summer to go backpacking for a month. It was incredible! I love El Salvadore.

    Hey Jules!~
You definitely just put me in a tropical mood! 🙂 I did not know about the Maldives until you posted about it and want to stay at your dream resort also!! The tropical places that I would like to visit are: Fiji, Bora Bora, St. Lucia (so jealous!), and Hawaii. The most beautiful tropical spot that I have been to is Aruba. Can’t wait to see pics from your honeymoon!

We will be going to Hawaii on our honeymoon. SO EXCITED!

This past spring we went on a western Caribbean cruise. Our favorite port was Isla Roatan, which is a BEAUTIFUL island off of Honduras. Seriously, just gorgeous!

OMG….meeee too JB! I’ve been cutting out and saving articles on the Maldives for years! I’m dying to go there. Poor Ryan will need to be comotose for that trip, it’s a LOT of travel. I actually looked into flights because I’ll be just East of the islands when I’m in Singapore next month. It wouldnt be that much fun all by myself though!

I have never been to a tropical location and I don’t really have any plans to. It sounds so hot! I am not a fan of the heat. Oregon summers are already too hot!

But I would love to travel back to Switzerland. I went there over a decade ago and I definitely want to go again!

I’m SUCH a nerd- I totally forgot that you guys were going to St. Lucia!!! I think that is where we plan to go too!! We were looking @ Antigua, but St. Lucia just seemed more appealing. We both loved the idea of just laying on the beach all day- and the flight is not too bad..so, that’s nice. Do you have the resort picked out? (ok, dumb question, OF COURSE you have it picked out already! lol) We are looking @ the Sandals resorts – I know that there are like 3 there…so it’s kind of up in the air right now about the actual resort we plan to go to, but I’m 96.5% sure it’s going to be St. Lucia. I would definitely LOVE your review once you guys get back!! 🙂

I haven’t been to too many tropical places. Although I spent two years in Honduras which has tropical parts, I was in the very south where it is all dessert and no rain forest. I did take a trip to Roatan, an island off the northern coast of Honduras which was fantastic – it was my first time seeing the white beaches and blue-blue water. Loved it!

I’d love to go to Puerto Rico because of the hiking and beaches. I’d also enjoy the Canary Islands and Mauritius. Both look amazing but sadly out of my very low price-range!

I’ve never been to a tropical location — so I have no idea!

Jason and I are planning some sort of caribbean vacation for next spring — we’ve paid off $30K in credit card and debt in the last year and now that we have some money saved we want to treat ourselves 🙂

Just took my 11th trip to Hawaii. (guilty pleasure) It’s my “happy place” I hope at some point everyone gets to see it in their lifetime it’s worth it, and easy to do on a budget. Most people think it’s very expensive, it really isn’t and worth every minute of the trip…. Can’t wait to see your honeymoon pics of St Lucia….
