Find a Penny…

January 17, 2011 by Julie 74 Comments

Happy Martin Luther King, Jr. Day!

If you have the day off, I hope you’re enjoying some extra relaxation. If you’re working today then I hope your day goes by quickly!

I think quite a few people have the day off work in Orlando because the gym was quiet this morning. BodyPump wasn’t nearly as packed and I had no problem claiming and elliptical after class to pound out 20 minutes of light cardio.

Once our workouts were over, Ryan and I headed home to take Sadie on a walk in the dreary weather. It’s a gloomy day in Central Florida!

At least the ducks are enjoying the rain.

Quack, Quack

If it’s rainy where you are, please take some time to sing the best rainy day song everrr.

Though it was dreary outside, we still had a great walk and Sadie had a blast stalking squirrels and picking up sticks.

Gimme Some Love!

Gahhhhh!

She’s a nut job. And I love her.

Breakfast

After our walk we came home ready for some breakfast!

Breakfast was poured from the blender today in the form of a chocolate covered strawberry green monster smoothie.

Pour Me Some o' Dat!

In the mix, for one smoothie:

  • 1 c. milk
  • 1 heaping scoop chocolate protein powder
  • 8 frozen strawberries
  • 2 large handfuls spinach
  • 3 ice cubes
  • 1 pinch xanthan gum (for thickening)
  • 1 tbsp. cocoa powder

The J Cup Means It's Mine. No Sharing.

The spinach was 100 percent undetectable in this smoothie. Perfect-ooo!

And now for a little Ryan and Julie debate…

Pennies: Good Luck or Not-So-Much?

Find a penny. Pick it up. All day long you’ll have good luck. Right?

I always believed it was okay to pick up any penny. A penny on the ground is always good luck in my opinion.

Well, to Ryan this is simply not so. Pennies found “tails up” should be left untouched because they’re bad luck.

Tails... Leave it!

I told him he was ridiculous and that all pennies are great! There is that wonderful rhyme saying so, afterall!

Find a penny. Pick it up. All day long you’ll have good luck!

Ryan answered back with this little gem…

Find a penny and if it’s tails, death will come, it never fails.

What!?

Yes, he made it up. Quite the rhymer though, huh?

We’d love to know your take on this little argument.

Are all pennies good luck, or are some pennies doomed for gloom?

I believe the ones on heads are good luck..but I just saw on a movie recently with JLo that if you turn it over to heads you will give someone else luck…never thought of that before!

    Heads!
However, I always pick up pennies no matter what. Maybe this is why bad things tend to happen to me?? Lol

Hey Julie, just wanted to say that I tried your tredmil interval workout with the inclined warm up, 20 sec. sprints with 40 sec. jog, inclined cool down & absolutley LOVED it! That was the first time I’ve done intervals on the tredmil & that half hour fleww by. It’s no wonder you love it! Thanks for the ideas, your blog is great!

I have to agree with Ryan on this one…leave the tails ones where they lie! But I also like to toss them too for other people’s good fortune 🙂

I actually don’t pick pennies up. I just say a wish whenever I see one and leave it be. But I have heard before that tails are the bad luck side.

I only will pick up a penny that’s heads up! My son in the other hand (who’s nine) will pick up any penny, even if it’s on the bottom of a mud puddle, halfway across a parking lot, or stuck in gum! Lol he’s crazy for pennies.

I watched the duck song YouTube video and I was like omg that’s raffi singing!! I used to watch raffi videos when I was little & tried to get my kids to watch them & they were like what the heck is this VHS video, mom? It’s so 80s!!! Although I have never heard the duck song, raffi’s voice brought back memories ( I couldn’t believed I recognized his voice!) thank you!

haha! I don’t pick pennies up unless they’re heads up. I always went by the “tails down, back luck” thing.

I always pick up pennies if they are heads up, however if they are tails up I will flip them over for someone else to find a heads up one! I don’t know why I always feel I have to do this.

Hi, in England its any penny (or so my rhyme goes!) ‘Find a penny, pick it up. All that day you’ll have good luck! If you leave and let it lay, bad luck you’ll have that day.’ Claire x

I like Ryan’s made up rhyme, but I heard the same as he did. When I see a penny that is tails up I flip it over so it’s heads up for the next person who finds it to have good luck.

Yeah I’ve heard its Heads up, and when it’s tails you flip the penny over for another person to pick it up.

Regarding the ‘penny’ issue, someone told me that if the penny is heads up, DON’T pick it up because Lincoln got shot in the head.
Though I usually pick up any penny.
