Barf Bowl

April 7, 2011 by Julie 58 Comments

After reading my post title, who wants to join me for breakfast!?

Perhaps I can bribe you with a waffle? Winking smile

To be honest, once I saw what my smoothie bowl looked like this morning, I really had no choice but to name it “barf bowl,” ‘cuz just look at this thing:

Despite its vomit-like appearance, I swear it tasted unbelievably good!

In the mix:

  • 1 frozen banana
  • 1 1/2 c. almond milk
  • 1/2 c. canned pumpkin
  • 2 pinches xanthan gum
  • 1 large handful fresh spinach
  • 1 packet (or scoop) caramel toffee fudge protein powder

I used a packet of Gold Standard 100% whey protein powder that I bought in a protein powder sampler pack good year or two ago (through Amazon.com, I believe) in my smoothie. I don’t know why it has taken me this long to try the caramel toffee fudge flavor because, in Fergie’s words, it was d-to-the-e-to-the-l-i-c-i-o-u-s!

The smoothie bowl was enjoyed alongside a toasted Van’s light waffle because I wanted something hot and carby.

This was a great breakfast that totally satisfied me after a schweaty workout.

Workout

My morning cardio session at the gym looked like this:

  • 10 min. stair master
  • 20 min. run/walk intervals (same as the first 20 min. of Tuesday’s workout)
  • 20 min. elliptical

I followed it up with a 20 minute walk with Sadie and my friend Merri. I felt like our walk time was cut way too short this morning (silly work!), but fortunately Merri and I have plans to meet up for a longer walk tomorrow after boot camp!

And now it’s time to work. Today is one of those days when I really wish I had the opportunity to work from home because it is beautiful outside! I would totally lay in the backyard and read magazines work diligently if I had the option.

Be sure to follow PBFingers on Instagram and Facebook!

I'd love to connect with you! I am always so grateful when you let me know you tried one of my recipes or workouts and tag me in your photos or updates. Thank you so much!!!

Sounds tasty! I love the Gold Standard products by Optimum Nutrition. Their casein protein is more dense than whey (I’m pretty sure all casein in general is) and it is sooo tasty! Makes the creamiest smoothies. Have an awesome day Julie!

When I read the post title I’m not gonna lie…I didn’t know what to expect between you and your salmon-sickness, Sadie (maybe she had too much peanut butter?….wait…that’s not possible!) or maybe Ryan was hungover.

    Glad it’s only a smoothie 😉

    Enjoy your day!

You ARE on a smoothie kick…must be the weather! It is hard for me to eat hot things when it is already 75 at 8:00am. I swear I will not complain all summer but really this weather is killing me. It can not be 90 degrees in April…it just can’t! 🙁

Julie, this is a random thanks:
Worst mood EVER + no motivation to workout/do anything after work + negative attitude = Yesterday for me
    Until…
    Enter: Exercise Mantra Solution
It was about 5 p.m. when a combination of mantras including: “one foot in front of the other”, “just get out the door…”, “you’re only one workout away from a good mood”, “just make yourself do it” (from my best friend), and “shelf your excuses” (from Shape Magazine) magically cued my hands to steer the wheel to the park rather than home.
So the thank you goes to you and the readers for bringing all of these mantras to the forefront of my unmotivated brain yesterday. After some mental tug-of-war, I ran my usual 3 mile loop with no music, my last choice for exercise clothing (ahem, no sports bra?!) and no pockets for my keys. I immediately felt fantastic post-run despite multiple drawbacks.
So I have a new mantra in light of this success: No matter what, a run is the best therapy.
Also, taking a break from the music/headphones was rejuvenating and even motivated me to work harder (i.e., uphill, speeding up on straightaways, etc.).

    Thanks!!

Gold Standard is one of my favorite whey proteins. I usually get the French Vanilla but never ventured out to the flavors. I’m glad you mentioned you purchased it at Amazon because now I will do my ordering through them. There prices are so much better then GNC and they have a variety of flavors to choose from.

What is the brand of whey you use when you use cake batter in your shakes? Gold Standard?
