Crisp Morning

October 3, 2011 by Julie 99 Comments

For some reason I have a great feeling about the week ahead. Maybe it’s because Ryan’s birthday is on Wednesday or because I have a fun trip to Orlando planned for this weekend. Or perhaps it’s because today started out with a heaping helping of peanut butter?

Whatever it is, I’m going to roll with the positive feelings!

Workout

When Ryan and I walked out into the garage to hop in the car to drive to the gym today, I shivered and immediately ran back inside to grab a fleece to wear because it was 48 degrees.

FORTY EIGHT!

fleece 003-1

Yay for crisp fall mornings!

I think the chilly temperatures invigorated me because I had a pretty stellar workout.

After 20 minutes on the elliptical, I did the following leg workout:

  • 100 squats (non-stop at 80 pounds!)

Three sets of 15 repetitions of the following:

  • Step ups
  • One-legged leg press
  • Deadlifts
  • Front squats with exercise ball
  • Ab work on exercise ball

Breakfast

Talk about a delicious breakfast!

race for the cure 10k 057

I prepared a bowl of old fashioned oats cooked with milk and topped with peanut butter and mini chocolate chips.

race for the cure 10k 059

I love the peanut butter and oatmeal combination. It’s so creamy and satisfying.

Sadie was not happy I decided to add in a sprinkling of chocolate chips because that meant she couldn’t lick the bowl clean. Unhappy dog.

First week in Ocala 233

Isn’t her little pumpkin shirt adorable? My mom and I almost bought her a lion costume for Halloween this weekend but they didn’t have it in her size. I think it’s a riot that Sadie likes dressing up! She loves to be cuddled under the sheets and I think that when we put her in doggie clothes she thinks she’s being wrapped up and cuddled.

Though she looks cute in her pumpkin shirt, nothing will top last year’s costume. What a little ham.

Book Club

I’ll be back soon with the very first PBF book club post! For those of you who participated by reading Room (thank you!), I’ll have a post up shortly dedicated to my review of the book and several questions for all of us to discuss in the comments section. Should be fun!

Be sure to follow PBFingers on Instagram and Facebook!

I'd love to connect with you! I am always so grateful when you let me know you tried one of my recipes or workouts and tag me in your photos or updates. Thank you so much!!!

You’re so lucky that Sadie likes clothes! I have a little chihuahua/min-pin and he hates wearing clothes! He needs to wear them the majority of the year because he’s so freakin’ tiny, but he always tries to wrestle out of them. My bf’s mom actually bought him a little fireman costume for Halloween, but don’t even get me started on trying to get my dog to wear a hat! 🙂

It is seriously blowing my mind that you guys are having cooler weather there than we are in England! My mom text me this morning from Orlando that she had frost on her car window, while I’m sat over here actually sweating. It’s crazy!

that is an awesome workout Julie! woowhoo!! One question: I’ve never tried the elliptical, but is it really good for working out the thighs? Hips? What specifically, in your opinion? 🙂

Sometimes the simplest oats are the best, and those sure looked good! I love when the chocolate chips melt into them… Ah so good! And when you do your squats, does 80 include the bar weight? Just curious because I have the hardest time figuring out how much the bars weigh at my gym because there are different ones!

most standard heavy bars weigh around 45 lbs. i load up the bar w/ 35 lbs. of weight, for a total of 80 lbs.

Awww! I bought the same shirt for my dog from Target, and it didn’t fit. 🙁 I guess my girl has a big chest. Lol

Also, I cannot believe it was 48 degrees in Ocala! I live in Tamarac (South Florida) and it definitely was only in the 70s! Send some of that chill this way please! Thank you! 🙂

I love it when the weather gets cooler (if it never got above 80 I’d be happy!) But 48 is just too darn cold. I’m comfortable between about 70 and 80.

Right now, I’m kind of LOVING the “crisper” morning weather…it meant I got to use my new arm sleeves on my morning run yesterday! Notice how I said “right now” though…I know pretty soon I’m going to be silently cursing the cold!

When you do your squats with weights do you use 2 40# dumbbells or 1 80# bar? If it’s the bar, do you rest it behind you on your shoulders? Are the squats wide stance?

ps good job for workin the squats!!

I’m always a bit afraid to up the ante on leg workouts – like squats and lunges. I’m always afraid they’ll bulk up my legs and make them bigger and I’m a bit heavier on my bottom half, so I don’t need that!! Have you seen a difference in size, muscle tone etc…?

you definitely won’t bulk up from lifting ANY weight – even heavy weight! it’s a common misconception, but as a woman it just isn’t in your DNA. 🙂 i haven’t noticed any growth in size, but i do feel like i look more toned and muscular (in a good way) than before.

Thanks, that’s good to know. You’ve inspired me to try and complete your 100 squats challenge! My boyfriend has barbells and weights and i’m always telling myself I should start making use of them but have been afraid about getting thunder thighs 😉

The freakest thing just happened. I was reading this blog post and had the strangest sense of deja vu. Almost like I had already read this but in a dream before.

LOL i love that Sadie loves dressing up. I’m dying to dress up my cat, but i think i would need a medium sized dog outfit for her since shes a lil porker at 19lbs!!
Also, she would probably hate me forever 🙂
