I’ll Have Another

May 6, 2012 by Julie 24 Comments

Yesterday I received a text from my mom about the Kentucky Derby. She took the time to list every single horse that was racing at Churchill Downs and told me and Ryan to pick “our horse” before they all raced yesterday evening.

I picked Daddy Long Legs.

Ryan picked I’ll Have Another.

My mom picked Bodemeister, my sister picked Hansen and my dad, like Ryan, picked I’ll Have Another.

The winning horse?

i'll have another

Of course.

Guess which horse came in dead last?

daddy long legs

Naturally.

For the record, the horse my mom picked came in second! (None of us were actually betting, but it was still fun to play along.)

Honestly, I’m not surprised that the horse I chose came in last.

Ryan calls me his “unlucky penny” when it comes to gambling. I really don’t like gambling and when I’ve been with Ryan when he’s gambled in the past on cruises (never anything substantial), I act as a dark cloud of doom saying supportive things like, “This is so stupid. Do you know how many hours it took you to make the money you just blew in five seconds?”

Really, I’m a treat.

Breakfast

Breakfast this morning was a treat!

banana pancakes

When we met up with our friends Dru and Carrie last Sunday to meet their baby, Dru made everyone banana pancakes that were so good. He said he simply added a mashed banana to basic pancake mix, so I took a cue from him and did the same thing this morning.

banana bisquick pancakes

I also added a spoonful of brown sugar to the batter to make them extra sweet!

Not a bad way to start a Sunday!

Now we’re off to church and then we’re planning on running some errands. Enjoy your Sunday!

That’s so funny about the horses because yesterday we watched a program on t.v. Talking about all the Kentucky derby horses funny names. My husband and I both liked I’ll have another. There were some really funny ones. Have a great Sunday.

So I thought my friend on Facebook was joking when she said “I’ll Have Another is the best name for a horse ever,” haha! Amazing.

I’m not a winner, either. But it doesn’t stop be from always thinking I’m definitely going to win. I get let down a lot, haha. I want pancakes for lunch now!

Love the simple idea of adding mashed banana to pancake mix! Definitely trying that!

Too funny- I picked I’ll Have Another, solely based on the fact his name comes from his owners love for cookies. My bf Greg picked Daddy Long Legs! I was not really into the race at all, I had just happened to hear a brief story of the horse’s name and loved it so I picked it. I was thrilled I “won” even though I really won nothing at all 🙂

Adding mashed banana to pancakes is a genius trick. I have done it before too and am now planning on BFD (breakfast for dinner, but I’m sure you knew that!). Have a great day!

My bf betted on I’ll Have Another, and I thought that was the funniest name ever. We used to go to horse races when we live in Illinois (I think they were by Aurora?), and they were so much fun.

I HATE gambling! My brothers go all the time and occasionally take my dad with them. They do, however, win almost every single time. Last time they went they walked out $15,000 dollars richer. NO JOKE! They only ever play Craps though…something about it having the best odds? It makes me too nervous. I watched one of my dad’s friends lose over a million dollars in Vegas once. It was insane.

Oh my goodness, I am so unlucky also! I’m a terrible gambler, and bring bad luck to anyone around me who is gambling. Glad I’m not the only one! Those pancakes look delicious! Have a great Sunday!

Haha that’s so funny! I actually had the opposite happen to me when we were at a casino in Canada. I kept rolling the dice for a craps game, and it kept coming up with the right numbers for everyone at the table! The funniest part is that my husband didn’t gamble a cent … so we didn’t make any money off of my luck! 😉

Congrats on your dad and Ryan winning! I wish I had that kind of luck! Maybe I’d actually gamble. ;p

What a great idea! We add blueberries or chocolate chips to pancake batter, why not bananas? It’s amazing how sometimes we overlook the simplest things!

I’m from Louisville and the Derby is a HUGE deal here. 🙂 My dad also picked Daddy Long Legs, but I was routing for Rousing Sermon because my husband is a pastor. 🙂 I love your blog and read it almost everyday!

Yeah, my husband and our guy friends all were cheering for I’ll Have Another, also. I refused, on grounds of the ridiculous getup his jockey wore. I went for Union Rags, who didn’t do much better than Daddy Long Legs.

On another note, you should try Blue Monkey pancakes…. blueberries AND bananas. Get it? Blue Monkey! Yummm.

I picked Dullahan because I like his jockey, Kent Desormeaux. His son is deaf and a few years ago his son got cochlear implants and was able to actually hear his dad race for the first time ever. I just thought it was such a cool story!

Also, I’m the worst gambler ever. Not only do I have the worlds worst poker face, but I can’t make a decision on a number or a move to save my life. I’d stick to the slot machine if I ever went again! haha.

Hahaha that’s awesome, cloud of doom.

Me and my hubby go to Vegas every year and he has a limit of what he can spend, it’s still wasting money but I have to admit, we’ve been 3 years in a row now and not once has he ever lost any money. Twice he made money and once he broke even and was smart enough to call it quits, so I can’t really complain.

Plus! When he gambles I get to lounge by the pool as he’s not much of a pool guy. Works for me!!

I picked 3 horses and they all lost. Luckily, I didn’t bet either, but I love all the pomp and circumstance of the Derby!
