Going Brunette?

October 29, 2014 by Julie 52 Comments

We’re halfway through the week! Truthfully today feels a little bit like Friday to me because tomorrow two of my best friends are coming to town!

Merri Ashley Julie

Merri and Ashley are arriving early tomorrow afternoon (they’re going to the same wedding Ryan and I are attending in Savannah and we’re all driving down together on Friday) and the three of us have some fun stuff on the agenda that will begin the minute they land! The countdown is on!

But today I have to keep my face glued to the computer to wrap up some work-related projects and a few blog posts I want to get done before they arrive.

Last Night

Last night, when I arrived home from Girls On The Run, I saw a box from Amazon waiting for me on our doorstep and knew immediately what was in it…

brunette wig

A brunette wig! (The bangs on that thing are a beast to tame.)

I bought the $12 wig as part of my Halloween costume and it is unfortunately much longer and wavier than it looked online. I need something just past my shoulders and straight, so I may be giving the wig a little haircut and trying to straighten it out (I’m planning to follow this tutorial) unless I can find something better at a local party store soon.

I was surprised when Ryan told me he didn’t think I looked that different as a brunette. What!? I suppose that’s a good thing because I feel like my naturally blonde hair seems to be getting darker and darker with each passing year.

After trying on the wig, we sat down to a simple dinner that included steamed veggies with garlic salt, sweet potatoes topped with cinnamon and a drizzle of maple syrup and ham steaks cooked in a glaze that I made with spicy mustard and maple syrup.

Dinner

Dinner fueled a 45 minute walk with Sadie before we were in for the night.

Now I’m off to get cracking on today’s to-do list! Sadie is headed to the vet later this morning and has no idea what’s coming. Uh oh… We all know the vet is her all-time favorite place to be.

This is what our time in the waiting room always looks like:

Sadie Vet

It will be an adventure, as always, I’m sure!

Have a great Wednesday!

I'd love to connect with you! I am always so grateful when you let me know you tried one of my recipes or workouts and tag me in your photos or updates. Thank you so much!!!

Is the wedding Halloween themed?! I like the brunette actually. The wig itself does look like it needs some taming but not too bad! Can’t wait to see what you are being.

I can’t wait to see what your Halloween costume is! My hair is still naturally blonde, but it keeps getting darker too and I’m dying to color it. Ryan is right that you don’t look much different as a brunette! My boyfriend wants me to dye my hair black….yeah that’s not happening.

ME TOO. I’ve been wanting to color my hair and add highlights FOREVER. But I’m so scared because every stylist I’ve talked to says it’s really hard to go back to your natural blonde color once you start coloring it.

Had to comment here because I was in the same boat. I had never colored my hair … I would call it an ash blonde color that gets darker and more blah in the winter. My friend has beautiful, natural looking highlights that I would never guess weren’t real so she referred me to her stylist. The technique is called “balayage” and the highlights are hand painted instead of using foils, so the stylist can place them wherever. I went in and they just brightened up the natural highlights that I already have. The best part is there is no drastic line of where they start, so they don’t have to be retouched often at all! Check it out … I really really love the way my hair looks.

I also had to comment as my hair is about the same as yours–natural blonde that has darkened as I’ve gotten older! A few years ago I tried just doing a few highlights/lightening my hair a little bit–and I did a little more each time I went until I finally tried a platinum blonde back in February. Although it was fun, the roots were too obvious for me within three weeks and as I realized I didn’t want to go in even twice that often, I decided to just cut the nonsense of lightening my hair and transition back to my normal color. But, because I wanted my hair to still be blonde-ish and not just kind of a bleh dirty blonde, I had the stylist try to match my hair as well as she could at the roots (so I could just quit dyeing it and let it grow in) and do a very nicely blended ombre blonde so I still have lightness throughout the lower part of my hair. She persuaded me that I could have an ombre that looked very natural and she was right! I got it done about three months ago and I can’t see a line where it’s grown in either. So that could be an option for you!

You look totally different as a brunette, but you totally wear it well. Besides, blondes may have more fun, but brunettes get it done! 🙂

I still have to figure out what Im being for Halloween. Eek! I really love that purple top; what kind is it? I realized the other day that I don’t have any long sleeved tops like that to run in that aren’t super warm. I need something lightweight for fall running!

I never comment on the blog but I thought I would today haha. The wig looks great on! I have been thinking about colouring my hair for a while (I am a brunette) but it is pretty scary cause I have always had brown hair. You could always go one shade darker than your hair colour? Then it wouldn’t be as drastic.
