65 and Sunny

October 19, 2020 by Julie 11 Comments

When the forecast calls for a high of 65 degrees and lots of sunshine all weekend, what choice do you have but to spend as much time as possible outside? The sunshine had our whole family in a good mood most of the weekend but nothing made me happier than the first FOUR HOUR stretch of sleep from our littlest dude! Please oh please let this mean we are turning a corner and longer stretches of sleep are on the horizon.

Not only did Rhett sleep for four solid hours, but I did as well. Nothing is worse than your baby sleeping and you finding yourself wide awake in the middle of the night listening for signs of them needing you, am I right, mamas? Thankfully we were both o-u-t for an amazing four-hour stretch and I awoke on Saturday feeling like a new woman. I pulled Rhett into bed with me to nurse when we were both up for the day and we chilled in bed for a bit while Ryan got Chase and Ryder dressed. By the time Rhett was done nursing and dressed for the day (aka in a fresh pair of footie pjs) we made our way downstairs and came upon a pretty epic fort Ryan built for the boys.

Fort fun lasted through most of the morning until brother battles made it very obvious they were over it so we threw on our shoes and headed out to the playground in our neighborhood.

We also spent some time near the marina and enjoyed simply being outside for several hours together.

Chase and Ryder alternated driving their Jeep with pushing Baby Rhett in the stroller and Chase naturally spent lots of time searching for butterflies and bugs. He shared the cricket he caught with his littlest brother and if you look closely at the above pic and you can see his critter cage on Rhett’s lap. Perhaps Rhett will be another Creature Man in the making?

Once we arrived home, we ate lunch together and then Rhett and Ryder took naps while Ryan and Chase did some yard work and took Sadie on another short walk so I could get some uninterrupted work time. As I worked and took little breaks to nurse and soothe Rhett, I streamed Dream Home Makeover, a new design show on Netflix featuring Studio McGee, interior designers who have an aesthetic I absolutely adore.

Once everyone was awake and back home, we declared Saturday night movie night and changed into our pajamas by 5 p.m. We dug into pizza and watched the first half of Moana before settling the boys in bed nice and early.

Sunday

Sunday morning Ryan had plans to meet up with his dad for a walk so I rallied the kids and then we all spent some time with Granddad until it was time to head up to Hope Park in Mooresville.

(Still loving my New Balance sneaks! And I’ve recently had really good luck using thredUP for some new sweatshirts/sweaters for myself like the H&M one I’m wearing as well as fall clothes for the boys like Chase’s Abercrombie Kids hoodie.)

We had plans to meet up with our friends Kevin and Chandra and their two boys and had a great time!

Longtime readers may remember Kevin and Chandra as two of the first good friends we made when we initially moved to the Charlotte area six years ago. They actually moved away a few years ago, had two kids, and then recently moved back to the Charlotte area. They now live about 20 minutes away from us so we are incredibly psyched to have them close by again!

As our boys ran all over the place, we caught up with our friends and hung out at the park for two hours until everyone was clearly ready for food.

We made a quick lunch when we arrived home and then once again Ryan and Chase went out on a walk with Sadie during Ryder and Rhett’s naptime so I could work and be home for our Instacart delivery. (Bless that service!)

The rest of our Sunday looked like more time outside, chores around the house and early bed times.

As for the week ahead, it should be a good one! The boys don’t have school today due to a teacher work day so we will be meeting up with friends at a local greenway instead. The big highlight of the week that’s on the horizon is a visit from my parents. We are so excited to have Mae and Pop back in town and I cannot wait to see my dad with Rhett for the first time. Woop!

I’m hoping to check in with you guys again in a day or two but until then, I hope you have a fabulous week! Thanks for making PBF a part of your day!

So fun! Sounds like a great weekend. When do you manage to do chores? During the week? We have a new baby on the horizon and I‘be been thinking lately about the balance between a fun weekend & getting things done to set up for the week. It’s so hard for me! We haven’t tried grocery delivery yet…I feel like I’d forget something! Also, I love that IG account and have also heard great things about that show!

hi! it’s so hard and right now we’re definitely in “survival” mode! we just do little bits and pieces when we can — often throughout the week. also, to be honest, we’ve had to let go of always having a super-clean house and try to just embrace this crazy phase of life, understanding that a messy house is okay right now. and grocery delivery is a GAME CHANGER with kids in the mix. i cannot recommend it enough!!

    Long time reader here.
It’s been awhile for me to comment.

hi! thanks for reading for so long and taking the time to leave a comment again! and yes, we are very aware of the virus. we’re doing the best we can to make the best decisions for our family right now and wearing masks, opting for outdoor get-togethers with friends, etc. it’s a crazy and concerning time for sure.

You are doing a marvelous job, Julie!! Congrats on getting a 4-hour stretch, that’s so wonderful! The longer stretches are close, I’m sure 🙌 and yes, I also vividly remember my frustration of when my newborn was sleeping, but my body was too alert to go back to sleep as soon as the moment allowed—even though I craved sleep more than anything. Again, you’re doing great! Keep it up! The days are coming when everyone sleeps through the night ❤️ Friends and family are a huge support and blessing—always, but especially postpartum!

Rhett looks sooooo little and looks like he has red hair!

The weather just turned around here, so I’m looking forward to a long walk tonight 🙂

Do your kids ever wonder why they only get to watch half a movie at a time..?!

Ha! Nope! They do get to watch full movies, too, but sometimes only half because they either lose interest or we started it too late and it runs into bed time!
