Two Parter

October 7, 2011 by Julie 102 Comments

Normally smoothies do a great job of filling me up. Not the case today!

I made myself a thick, chocolaty and delicious smoothie, but found myself rummaging through the fridge 30 minutes later.

smoothie 003

In the mix:

  • 1 cup milk
  • 1 cup frozen strawberries
  • 1/2 frozen banana
  • 1 scoop chocolate protein powder
  • 2 tablespoons cocoa powder
  • 1 teaspoon
  • 1 large handful fresh spinach

I drank that baby up in about two minutes out of one of our new glasses that I bought on sale two weeks ago. I love how they start out big at the bottom and get smaller at the top. Fancy!

Apparently lunch today was meant to be a two-parter.

Part dos included Greek yogurt topped with a spoonful of Stonewall Kitchen’s maple pumpkin butter that the company sent me to try.

And then I preceded to eat about half of the maple pumpkin butter straight out of the jar because it tasted like joy on a spoon.

Modern Family

Earlier this week I meant to follow up with you guys to thank you for your recommendation to check out Modern Family.

modern family

Ryan and I are loving this show!

We’re about five episodes into the first season and cannot stop laughing. As lame as it sounds, we have a hot date planned for this evening involving dinner and hours of Modern Family episodes. It’s an ambitious goal, but we’re hoping to make it through the first season by the end of the weekend. Go big or go home.

As for my favorite character?

cameron

When he brought Lily out to the tune of “Circle of Life” from the Lion King, I was smitten. He’s speakin’ my language. (I seriously cannot watch that clip without laughing out loud, which makes me feel totally creepy since I’m alone in my house right now.)

We are huge fans of Modern Family, too! Just had to say that I love that pic of Sadie with her lip tucked in 🙂 My dogs do that too and it cracks me up every single time! And they always look at you so seriously when making that face which makes it even funnier 😉

haha thanks for that clip. I may become obsessed with Modern Family just based on that you tube clip alone. I started DYING laughing…and I’m home alone, with the windows open, and a guy was right outside walking his dog. There was even awkward eye contact, but it was still worth it. 😉 So again, thank you!

that maple pumpkin butter looks sooooo good! And I really need to buy some chocolate protein powder. I buy vanilla in the huge tub to save money (because vanilla goes with whatever i want to mix in), but I want some chocolate smoothies too!

Mmm that maple pumpkin butter looks good! At a family christmas exchange, I won a chocolate sauce from that company that was incredible – dark chocolate sea salt caramel sauce.

That just sounds delicious! Maple pumpkin butter. Is it kinda like apple butter but w/ pumpkin??!! If so can we say YUM!! I love pumpkin flavored anything and love apple butter so I’m sure I’d love the maple pumpkin butter. Your smoothie looks DE-LISH but I’m afraid of the handful of spinach. Can you actually taste the spinach? Let me know. I’m planning on trying one of your smoothies this weekend & see how it goes 🙂 Enjoy your weekend Julie!!

I’m borderline obsessed with Modern Family! I cannot stop laughing when I watch it. And Jesse Tyler Ferguson (who plays Mitchell) went to the same performing arts college that I did- so, I feel a special connection to him. (:

That maple butter looks awesome, by the way!

I definitely do not watch a whole lot of TV but I have heard such good things about that show.

I think spending an evening watching nothing but a full season of a show sounds like a GREAT time to me! 🙂

Sorry your smoothie didn’t fill you up! What a bummer. I usually stick with a bowl of Kellogg’s FiberPlus(R) Caramel Pecan crunch, an apple and a bit of yogurt to keep myself feeling satisfied in the am. And I’m loving the pumpkin butter! I may need to find ways to add that to my own breakfast! 🙂

I’ve never seen Modern Family. I actually saw Jesse Tyler Ferguson (the guy with the red hair) on Broadway a couple of years ago before he got so big from this show. It’s cool to have been able to see him before he became a big star!

I just recently started my own blog and I’m shocked by the negative comments on yours. I know sometimes I have said things on blogs that I reread and they came off in ways I didn’t intend. But for people to just be so plain rude, does that ever get to you?

And I just want to say that I truly enjoy your blog, even if I don’t always comment because of your positive outlook.

yes, it definitely does weigh on me… a lot, actually. but i try to keep everything in perspective and realize that not everyone is going to like what i say or do and that’s okay. i just think there’s a way to say things with tact and without tact and that’s the issue a lot of the time.

My fiance and I are also COMPLETELY addicted to Modern Family. We’ve been getting the DVD’s off Netflix (season 2 just became available!!) I have to admit that I read Sophie’s Choice (by William Styron…turns out it’s like 2 inches thick and really intense) just because Cam cried about it during an interview scene.

p.s. I am also a blog fan–I like that you are a few years younger than most of the “healthy living bloggers” and therefore can relate to you more 🙂

I love Modern Family! Cam if my favorite, but I have been told I have the flair for the dramatic just like him, so, I’m not surprised I find him so appealing. But my significant other IS Phil. They are the same person! It’s insane!

Up All Night is another hilarious show that premiered this Fall and I am Ob. Sessed. I know I will be Reagan when I have kids. Crazy.

Also you put a teaspoon in your smoothie? Vitamixes are more powerful than I thought! 😉

I found your blog as a I searched wedding ideas in pinterest and I completely loved all your healthy tips and smoothies! I am starting to train to do my first 5k (I am a beginner) and have started eating healthy. My boyfriend has been my motivator in all of this, and of course…myself! I want to start a new healthy lifestyle. I have been searching what kinds of protein powders I should buy, but can you recommend any? I have heard that Optimum Fitness is good (Gold Standard with isolate), whey or soy? I feel like I have so many questions. Help!

    Thanks!
