The Evolution of Ryan’s Hair

January 26, 2012 by Julie 87 Comments

Those of you who guessed that this afternoon’s sneak peek picture was a flashback look at Ryan’s hair get 10 points!

When Ryan and I first started dating he had long, shaggy, blonde hair.

I typically gravitate toward brunette guys, so I was actually surprised to find myself very attracted to a blonde boy! Apparently my brunette preference held true, because under that mop of blonde was a brunette just dying to get out!

When Ryan had his blonde hair, people would tell us that we looked alike all the time. Because that’s not a creepy thing to hear…

Ryan’s grandmother had an ongoing offer to pay Ryan $100 if he chopped off his long hair. One day he surprised all of us and showed up at my parents’ house with a buzzed head without telling anyone what he was doing!

I loved it!

Apparently he wasn’t yet ready to part with his long, wavy locks, because before we knew it he had a head full of thick, brown hair.

Now he keeps his hair nice and short and simple.

I find it oddly amusing that Ryan’s hair has seen more changes than mine. I’ve never dyed my hair and it’s been long and super thin my whole life.

Dinner

Dinner tonight was quite simple thanks to freezer food.

I have a lot of packing to do tonight because I leave for New York tomorrow, so I wanted a quick and easy dinner.

general tso

A few weeks ago I received a package of Crazy Cuizine authentic Asian dishes. I immediately put them into the freezer and forgot about them until tonight when I had an intense craving for Chinese food.

I followed the package directions and heated the General Tso’s chicken in a bit of canola oil on the stove top before adding fresh broccoli and the zesty ginger sauce packet to the hot chicken.

crazy cuisine

It was so, so good. Ryan and I couldn’t get over how much it tasted like takeout Chinese food. By nature General Tso’s chicken isn’t exactly healthy, but at least this dish was high in protein and free of preservatives and trans-fats.

I also ended up cutting up an apple to eat on the side because I wanted something sweet, nutritious and crunchy. Great meal!

Haha! Love those pictures! You look so happy and in love. I cringe so much looking back at old pictures of my ridiculously puffy wavy frizzy hair – from the days before hair straighteners were invented!

On another note…my boyfriend and I have been told we look alike quite a few times. One local lady even had an argument with one of my best friends about it – she insisted that we were brother and sister not boyfriend and girlfriend! ewwwww :-S

    Oh, Ryan. That’s just…oh. Hahaha!

I have crazy curly hair, and my mom thought it would be a great idea to give me bangs in elementary school. Note: bangs are not for those of us with Shirley Temple-ringlets. It was not a good look!

Oh my gosh- he looked like such a surfer in that first pic!! Like most of the guys I went to college w in SoCal haha. I’m actually more of a fan of my boyfriend w longer hair.. he always had it suuuuuuper short in college bc he was in ROTC, but now (even though he’s military) he grows it out a teensy bit bc he knows I like it. 😉

HIGH-laarious hair, Ryan! The first photo reminded me of an 1980s pro wrestler! I’m glad that he chopped it for that more professional look =)

My hair has seen many horrific days…y’know aside from the occasional bad hair day. I have pretty curl hair on it’s own but decided to get a perm in middle school. Bad idea. I also decided I wanted my hair short which was misinterpreted by the hair dresser and I basically got a boy cut. Bad idea. In high school I did blonde highlights which meant it just kept getting blonder. Bad idea.

Now I keep my hair long and dark. The only change comes in the exact shade of dark (natural vs color enhanced) and straight (with an iron) or the natural curly. 😉

Oh, yes. But it was not my fault. Somehow my mother controled my hairstyle until I was in high school and I had the sickest mullet. Why did she do that to me?

Wow. His hair really HAS changed. When I met my husband (when I was a frosh in HS) he had the typical late 90s boy cut. short. no product. brown. he wore a ball cap all the time.

When we started dating (12 years later) he had no hair. it all migrated from his head to his face! Lol. so he keeps the hair that has fallen out shaved. 🙂

I love looking at older pictures for this very reason!

When I was 12 or 13 I just knew I wanted a tight spiral perm. My parents tried talking me out of it but I knew a girl who had gotten one and I love how it looked on her. So I got one…. except my hair was a lot shorter than hers was before getting the perm.. can you say
Q-tip! Never again, I learned my lesson!!

    Your dinner looks delicious!

The evolution of Ryan’s hair is ahhhmazing! I’ve only seen pictures, but Matt used to have a legit, massive, curly afro in college.

As for me? I sported a horrific haircut in middle school (Yes, I know, perfect time for self-esteem development.) that happened when I looked down while my mom was cutting my bangs. My Grandfather, who had recently suffered a stroke, cried when he saw my hair. It was that bad. I was mortified!

OH MY GOSH! That first picture of Ryan is classic! Crazy cut and loving the highlights. I didn;t know my husband when he was in college but he had long curly hair, very 70s like and now it is short and spiky haha

I’ve been chin-length to down to my hiney, blonde, brown, and red -headed. I love mixing things up and went back to blonde last week for the first time in ten years… and I AM having more fun. I discovered that my My hubby is a hair chameleon, too when I found old pictures of him rocking long, wavy, blonde, brown and bangs!!!! LOL!!!

I had the bowl cut as a child. Why my mother thought I needed one as a girl, I don’t know. I also had a mullet. My mom claims it was “feathered.” Umm…no. Also, I’m not even really sure what my natural color is because I have dyed it so many times. It has been pretty much every color under the sun including purple and blue. Way too much fun 🙂

My worst haircut was when I was 8 and I really wanted a perm and the hair stylist permed my hair very loose and it just looked messy and worst of all, my hair was short and then she permed my bangs! 🙁
