A Few Things From This Weekend

January 5, 2015 by Julie 152 Comments

A few things from this weekend… In list form!

  • Homeland!

Homeland

We started watching season one of Homeland last night and let’s just say we’re ALL IN. We popped the first DVD in before 5 p.m. and did nothing else until bedtime. The show is so addicting and we’re already hooked! I’m really hoping to squeeze in an episode or two after dinner tonight! Big goals, I know. Haha!

  • Pure Barre Change Up

Pure Barre

My local Pure Barre studio introduced a new warm up routine on January 1 (routines change every 3 months) and I did it for the first time on Saturday. Oh man, it is a killer and totally lit my core on fire! I was ready to shake things up a bit so the new routine came at the perfect time and was oh-so-humbling.

  • Bye, Bye Christmas

Christmas Decor (2)

We put away all of our Christmas decorations and the Christmas lights this weekend. Ryan and I divided up the tasks and while I tackled the inside décor, he packed up the outdoor lights which made the process go by faster than anticipated! I now feel like there’s a big void in our house where the Christmas tree is supposed to be. The post-holiday blues are setting in…

  • Pizza Night

Brooklyn South Pizza

Ryan and I got together with our friends Chandra and Kevin on Friday night and spent hours chatting away and eating several slices of our all-time favorite pizza at Brooklyn South. It’s our go-to spot for pizza and after raving to Chandra and Kevin about it in the past, the four of us met up for a low key pizza night which was exactly what I was in the mood for on Friday. So delicious!

  • Breakfast at Terrace Café

Terrace Cafe

Terrace Cafe

Terrace Café came highly recommended to me by my friend Lindsay! I actually took my sister to the delicious breakfast hot spot when she was in town last fall, but Ryan had yet to give it a try, so we headed to the café for brunch on Sunday and grabbed a seat at the bar. Their food is absolutely fabulous (I ordered the quiche of the day and shared a half-order of the biscuits and gravy with Ryan to start) but I think their specialty coffee drinks are equally worthy of praise.

hazelnut cappuccino terrace cafe

When I went with my sister, I had the peanut butter cup latte and it was out of this world! This time, I opted for a hazelnut almond milk cappuccino and I don’t know what they do to their coffee to kick the flavor up a notch, but it’s unreal. I think they have the best specialty coffee drinks I’ve found in Charlotte so far! I just had to give this place a shout out in case you’re a local reader and haven’t been to Terrace Café yet. Put it on your radar!

  • Whole Foods Apple Pie a la Mode

Whole Foods Apple Pie

Talk about the best way to end the weekend! As we settled in to watch our millionth episode of Homeland last night, Ryan and I split this big bowl of warm apple pie and creamy ice cream and it was all kinds of amazing. The perfect way to cap off a lazy Sunday night!

Questions of the Morning

  • Share one of the highlights from your weekend! What was the best thing you ate? The most fun thing you did?
  • Are you currently addicted to a certain TV show? Anyone else just discovering Homeland for the first time? I hear it gets even better in season two…

Homeland! I was just recently introduced to it as well, but I want to start from the beginning. It makes me a little sad to say ‘bye’ to Christmas! That beverage looks delish, I’m always in awe of coffee art! haha! xoxo, ganeeban

Weekend highlights: I planted an Apricot tree! It won’t have fruit for eating until June 2016- but as I am learning as a new home owner, gardening does not have instant gratification. We’ll get to enjoy some beautiful blossoms in the spring at least though. Also made a to die for mushroom risotto. So delicious!

I’m feeling those post-holiday blues too. They’re over but we still have several more months of winter here in Brooklyn! I love that the pizza place you went to has Brooklyn in the name 🙂 Looks like great, NY style pizza! Also, your beanie in the cafe picture is precious!

Best thing I ate this weekend? Chipotle 🙂
Current go-to show? My husband and I just started watching Friends on Netflix. I’ve actually never watched the show before (I know, shocker), so I’m pretty pumped about catching up with the rest of the world.

My husband and I just started watching The Americans this past weekend. It is super addicting and we ended up watching more episodes than I’d like to admit! It is similar to homeland with a touch of husband and wife drama! 🙂

Homeland is soooo addicting. We waited until the most recent season was finished before starting it just so we could binge watch it, I can’t stand the cliff hangers! Needless to say, we watched all 12 in two days…

HA! I think it’s hilarious you’re just getting into Homeland, too. We started watching it over the weekend. (There’s actually an episode on the TV right now.) Can I just say that Claire Danes is an AMAZING actress because I absolutely HATE her character. She’s a selfish, unstable person and I hate her for it. She deserves every nomination and award she’s received!

Homeland is GREAT except you’ll probably get frustrated every episode or two. Just keep watching!
