Canyon Ranch Lenox BabyMoon: Day Three

June 3, 2015 by Julie 45 Comments

Catching up? Here are the first two blog post recaps from our BabyMoon at Canyon Ranch in Lenox, Massachusetts:

  • Canyon Ranch BabyMoon: Day One
  • Canyon Ranch BabyMoon: Day Two

Canyon Ranch Lenox BabyMoon: Day Three

Our third and final full day at Canyon Ranch began similarly to our second day! We woke up early and grabbed breakfast and coffee at the cafe. It was another dreary morning but the rain made the whole resort feel cozy and with a billion things to do on the daily activity schedule, we knew it wouldn’t foul up our plans too much.

After loving Sunday’s advanced indoor cycling class I made it a point to take the 45-minute class again on Monday morning and though it wasn’t a packed class, there was still a great energy in the studio and it felt good to take my body through some hill work, intervals and steady state cardio. After class I had just enough time to towel off (I must reiterate again how amazing it was to have cold wet towels on hand all over the ranch!) and say hi to Ryan before walking into my second and final fitness class of the day.

Wet Towels After Workout Canyon Ranch

Resistance Band Workout

The workout was a resistance band-based strength class and though it was quite basic and not too challenging, I really enjoyed the easy-to-follow format and made a mental note to keep a lot of the exercises we did during the class in mind for future naptime workouts at home after our baby is born. Though I typically prefer free weights and barbells for my personal strength workouts, I wanted to try something new and know that resistance bands are a great way to change things up. During the class, we did some new-to-me exercises and stretches that used the bands in some more creative ways. I think they’ll also be fun to incorporate into some of my boot camp classes in the future!

After my resistance band class, I grabbed a pear from one of the fully-stocked fruit bowls located all over the resort and headed up to the room to shower while Ryan took a men’s stretch class (he said it was similar to the stretch class we did together the day before).

pear

(This is totally random, but for some reason Ryan and I could not get enough of the pears during our stay. I think we both had two or three every single day!)

I used a little bit of my free time after I was done showering to type up a blog post while I waited for Ryan to return from his stretch class and join me for lunch. On our way down to the cafe, Ryan snapped a quick 30-week baby bump photo on the stairwell since we were there on our BabyMoon, after all…

30 weeks pregnant

Our little man is so active lately and it was really neat for Ryan to be able to feel him move a LOT during this trip. I’ve felt kind of bad because every time I would tell Ryan he was moving, Ryan would place his hand on my belly and he’d immediately stop. Well, he finally decided to share a bunch of his dancin’ with dad on this trip!

Our lunch at the cafe was kind of random and Ryan and I both opted for a la carte dining options. He went for a burger while I ordered a spicy chicken sausage with ketchup and mustard.

Plus a plate of veggies and tuna salad from the salad bar (topped with balsamic vinaigrette) and lemon mousse for dessert!

After lunch, I wanted to attend a session on beauty tips and tricks and since it didn’t interest Ryan (shocking!), I headed off to the lecture to take some notes before we met back up for our next session. I actually want to compile some of my notes from this session in a separate blog post because I think they may interest some of you out there who feel a bit clueless about makeup like I do, so stay tuned!

At 2 p.m., Ryan and I attended a “Brain Challenge” session together that discussed healthy living tips in a trivia environment and encouraged group participation which made it fun and informative.

And then it was time for West African drumming! Ryan played the drums in high school and when I mentioned this class to him, he seemed just as intrigued as I was, so we headed off to the class together.

Canyon Ranch Drumming

Two instructors taught a small group of eight of us various beats and we had fun playing and getting into the music. At one point, after we found a good rhythm, they encouraged anyone who felt comfortable to freestyle and Ryan did an awesome job! I’ve heard him play drums before and know he has a lot of rhythm (he’s always “drumming” on his steering wheel and creating different beats to go along with songs we hear on the radio), but his freestyling was really cool and I told him I was thoroughly impressed!

IMG_0306

We had a great time in the class and enjoyed speaking with the instructors and hearing more about their drumming backgrounds before we left.

Next up on our agenda was an evening spa service! After Ryan’s fantastic Road Warrior massage the day before, he wanted to try a Thai massage on Monday night and said it was another excellent experience. His massage therapist used handlebars above the massage table to hold on to while she used her feet to do most of the massage. Ryan said it was great and he walked away amazed at his masseuse’s ability to control her feet and apply a great amount of pressure on his back that was both relaxing and soothing to sore muscles. It sounded awesome!

I decided to book myself a You Glow Girl maternity facial during our stay since I’ve only ever had one facial in my life and that was easily 10+ years ago. During my first and second trimesters, I struggled a lot with pregnancy acne and though my skin has thankfully cleared up a bit, I still am finding a number of lovely zits on my chin and forehead, so I was hoping a facial might help! The aesthetician who did my facial was wonderful and treated my face with a series of masks, peels and creams. She also took some time to clear out my skin and while this was a bit painful, my skin looked so much better the next morning!

After our spa services, Ryan and I walked to the dining room for our final dinner at Canyon Ranch.

I started with an order of the chicken lettuce wraps followed by the chicken pho entree. Ryan and I shared the spaghetti and meatballs entree (he also ordered the fresh fish) and finished off my meal with a white chocolate macadamia nut cookie and vanilla ice cream. As always, the food was amazingly fresh and very flavorful. I wish I could bring a Canyon Ranch chef home with me to our house because Ryan and agreed we could easily eat their fantastic food every day.

Ryan and I made another stop at the DVD check out counter before heading up to our room for a relaxing movie night. We watched The Temptations in bed and I slept the best I have in a long time. It was a great final evening at Canyon Ranch and though it was wonderful to pick up Sadie yesterday and smother her in lots of love, I was definitely sad to leave. Our trip ended up being a fantastic BabyMoon and a wonderful vacation with my favorite person. Thank you again to Canyon Ranch for such a memorable experience!

Wow, sounds like a great babymoon…glad that you and Ryan had fun and were able to try a variety of activities! I live in Massachusetts…Canyon Ranch looks like a great place to visit the next time my husband and I are able to get away! I agree with the previous poster…I love those cobalt blue leggings! Are they maternity?

They aren’t maternity but they’re very stretchy, so I just wear them below my belly!

I’m sorry to hear about your struggle with clear skin during your first two trimesters. I’m not sure if you’ve been offered this advice, but it has made a tremendous difference for me, so I thought I would share…I gave up dairy at the start of 2015 and my skin has been thanking me ever since. I initially went on BC (8 years ago) to combat acne and a flare-up in late 2014 prompted me to do some research and avoid milk products. I’ve been so pleased with my skin that it gave me the confidence to go off BC (I’ve also been taking some other supplements to help with symptoms of BC withdrawal). The last time I went off BC (the summer of 2011), my skin hated me. This time, things are much better. I’m not saying this will work for everyone or for you, but it might be worth considering. I wish you the best!

Hahahha too funny about the pears. Pears are the most addicting fruit, I swear. A few years ago at work, they had a teacher appreciation thing where they gave all the teachers fresh fruit. I picked a pear. So did my best friend. We couldn’t believe how good they were, and we actually emailed a supervisor to get more pears. By the end of the day, we each had like 4, and we could have eaten more!

I took an african drumming class in high school! It’s so much fun but I sounded horrible…we all had to do a solo during our final performance and mine was not on beat at all! Lol!

I think the word masseuse is somewhat derogatory and you’re supposed to be using “massage therapist” instead.

It sounds like a great trip, but didn’t sound very relaxing! I never got to go on a babymoon, but if I had I would have wanted to lay on the beach and not move for days, to relax with the hubby before baby time!

        great!

Also – what are your thoughts on staying at Canyon Ranch had they not comped your stay? I just looked at their website because you made it sound so great and it is outrageously expensive – it’s $1,000 per PERSON PER DAY! that is insane. Who is their target market?

I was thinking the same thing. It looks nice and all, but two nights with my husband would cost the same amount as 10 days of hotels and airfare to Hawaii. It seems ridiculously outrageous to me. If I am spending that money I am going to see the world, not exercise more lol

I have looked at Canyon Ranch so many times because so many bloggers I read have had comped stays there…and it almost makes me mad that I could never, ever, ever afford to go there for even a weekend. If they’re going to give all these bloggers free trips they should do a giveaway or some kind of discount for the blog audience. Booooo. No hate to the bloggers though, just jealous!

i’ve never had a professional facial. i’m (sort of) lucky that my skin isn’t oily so pimples haven’t been a problem. the whole extraction process scares me.

because it’s so dry i have started using face masks on a weekly basis. i’ll actually be posting about it tomorrow on my blog if anyone wants to drop by.
