Cheesy Baked Pasta

September 14, 2011 by Julie 274 Comments

Tonight I used the the very last food item from my Healthy Living Summit swag bag to make a delicious dinner!

baked pasta 003

I used a box of Eden Organic kamut ditalini pasta to make a cheesy baked pasta dish that totally hit the spot after yesterday’s pasta cravings.

Cheesy Baked Pasta

Serves two, or one very hungry person

(Note: If serving two, you will likely want a side for along with this dish, as the serving size is rather small for two people)

  • Prep Time: 5 minutes
  • Cook + Bake Time: 25 minutes

Ingredients:

  • 1/2 cup whole grain ditalini pasta, uncooked
  • 1 can chicken, drained (4.5 ounces)
  • 1 cup steamed broccoli
  • 1 cup shredded cheese
  • 1 cup marinara sauce
  • 2 tablespoons Italian breadcrumbs

Directions:

  1. Preheat oven to 350 degrees
  2. Spray a loaf pan with cooking spray and set aside
  3. Bring a pot of water to a boil and cook pasta until it’s al dente (slightly firm)
  4. Remove pasta from heat, drain and place back into pot
  5. Add chicken, broccoli and 3/4 cup of the cheese, stirring until cheese begins to melt
  6. Add marinara sauce and breadcrumbs and stir until everything is mixed together
  7. Top with remaining 1/4 cup of cheese and bake for 10 minutes until cheese is melted

This was a super-cheesy dinner winner in our house tonight! It kind of reminded me of baked ziti or mostacholi. So good!

In Need of a New Show

With Bachelor Pad over and Jersey Shore not interesting me like it used to (well, we always DVR it, but we’re not motivated to stay up and watch it like we used to be), I’m out of television shows that excite me. (Please refrain judgment on my show choices.)

I really like having one show to look forward to during the week and feel like I must be missing out on some quality show out there right now.

Why can’t Friends still be running? Wah.

Anyway, if you have any “must watch” shows that you’ve been enjoying lately, feel free to share! Since Ryan and I have no friends in our new hometown yet, we’re looking to make some new television friends until we get some kind of a social life here.

Gosh, I sound so pathetic. Smile

Be sure to follow PBFingers on Instagram and Facebook!

I'd love to connect with you! I am always so grateful when you let me know you tried one of my recipes or workouts and tag me in your photos or updates. Thank you so much!!!

While I don’t think we have the same taste in TV I would recommend checking out True Blood (the latest season just ended but I imagine they do reruns? I just have no tv, I just download so that may be out of the question for you haha)
Desperate Housewives, I really enjoy. It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia is starting a new season tomorrow (this show is hilarious). House is another great one, new season starting soon as well.
Did you see Geordie Shore?? It’s Britain’s version of the Jersey Shore and while I hated Jersey, I liked Geordie so you might want to check it out. Free on MTV online.

There is a new show called Up All Night that premieres tonight. It is a comedy with Christina Applegate and looks hilarious. I agree with Kate about Parks and Recreation. My husband and I just got into it last season and it is freaking hilarious. There is also a new show with Sarah Michelle Gellar called Ringer. It premiered this week and is more of a drama. Looks good so far!

I have every season of Friends on DVD and I fall asleep to it every night. I watch it in order. When the finale ends are start back with the pilot episode. Is this sad? I find it normal because my sister does it too! I have been alternating Friends and How I Met Your Mother lately. If you’ve never seen it…get them on Netflix. You won’t regret it!

I also love Glee and I’m looking forward to the new Rachel Bilson show, Hart of Dixie on The CW.

my husband and i just got addicted to “damages” on netflix. i know it plays on FX, but not sure when seeing as how we’ve only caught up on season 1 and 2. super suspenseful and crazy though! it’s a show we both have quickly become addicted to. if you have netflix, the first 2 seasons are available to stream!

Someone else mentioned this, but if you have Netflix, Make It or Break It is lots of fun! Totally cheesy but equally awesome!

As far as my addiction? Biggest Loser starts next week! Anna Kournikova is taking over for Jillian which I’m a little unsure about it, but it should be interesting to see at least!

VAMPIRE DIARIES! It’s so good! We definitely share a taste in YA books, so I think you’ll love this too.

Don’t tar it with the Twilight brush as it’s much better. The female lead is nowhere near as blah as Bella (as in she actually does something rather than sitting around helplessly while men decide her fate in life, yes, I have Bella issues!), and the guys are way hotter. Joking aside, that’s not why I watch – the plot is amazing and constantly twists and turns – but it doesn’t hurt 😉 It reminds me of all those years I spent watching Buffy, and the minute an episode ends I’m itching for the next one. It’s the tv version of a page-turner!

In new shows, I’m going to try out:
    New Girl
    Up All Night
    Pan Am
    Terra Nova
    Ringer
    The Secret Circle

    And in old shows:
    Grey’s
    Private Practice
HIMYM (this is awesome, particularly the early seasons)
    Glee

The season just ended but it’s such a good show! You and your hubby should start watching! If only abc would have a show on JP and Ashley after the after the final rose… haha have a good night!

As for weekly “must watch shows” my go-tos are Grey’s Anatomy and a new shower, Parenthood on NBC which actually just started up again! Good luck 🙂

The Good Wife (my new obsession)
    Grey’s Anatomy
    Arrested Development (all on Netflix!)
    Vampire Diaries
    30 Rock
    How I Met Your Mother

And if you want something old school but still amazing–Gilmore Girls! That show will never, ever get old for me!
