Chi-Chi-Chi-Chia for You

December 30, 2011 by Julie 904 Comments

This morning started out on a sweet note with a creamy bowl of overnight oats.

After dinner yesterday I threw Coach’s Oats, chia seeds, strawberry banana Greek yogurt, milk and a heaping spoonful of strawberry preserves into a bowl and let it soak overnight.

(I highly recommend adding fruit preserves to overnight oats! It added the perfect punch of sweetness.)

This morning, I stirred everything up and added a bit more milk and a sliced banana to the oats.

I ate the oats out of a new bowl I got from my family for Christmas. I love the fun design and the depth. Perfect for stirring extra ingredients into overnight oats without worrying about overflow.

Whenever I hear back from readers who have unsuccessfully attempted overnight oats, the complaint is almost always that they were too liquidy. For me, the key to thick overnight oats is the inclusion of chia seeds.

So how about a chance to win some chia seeds of your own?

chia seeds 035

As you may know, I am a FitFluential ambassador and when the company put out a call for ambassadors who were big fans of chia seeds a few weeks ago, I immediately responded saying I looove the nutritious little seeds.

I’ve been eating chia seeds since the beginning of the year when I first tried them and haven’t looked back.

They’re great in cinnamon chia seed granola…

On top of pancakes, bagels, English muffins topped with peanut butter…

Incorporated into smoothies or even in chocolate chia seed pudding…

A couple of weeks ago, I was sent a handful of chia seeds from The Chia Co, an Australian company that specializes in sustainable farming and the development of chia seeds and chia products.

The company boasts that their chia seeds are:

  • Gluten Free
  • Halal certified
  • Kosher certified
  • Excellent source of Omega 3
  • High Source of Protein
  • Rich in Antioxidants
  • Excellent source of dietary fiber
  • Endorsed by the Coeliac Society Inc (Australia)
  • Endorsed by the National Heart Foundation (Australia)
  • Grown naturally / GMO Free

And now you can win chia seeds of your own from The Chia Co! (Note: This giveaway is not sponsored or endorsed by The Chia Co or Fitfluential and is simply coming from me and the samples they sent to me that I’ve chosen to pass along.)

Two winners will receive two bags of the chia seeds and a chia tank top!

To enter this giveaway, simply comment below telling me why you want to try chia seeds for the first time or tell me about your favorite way to enjoy chia seeds if you’re already a fan.

I will randomly select two winners tomorrow morning.

Good luck!

I'd love to connect with you! I am always so grateful when you let me know you tried one of my recipes or workouts and tag me in your photos or updates. Thank you so much!!!

I ABSOLUTELY ADORE chia seeds! I put them in normal foods I frequently eat such as smoothies, oatmeal, and yogurt. BUT…I have found a new love for them in ICE CREAM 😀
I bought my dad a Hamilton beach half pint ice cream maker for Christmas because we are obsessed with ice cream (literally…last week we tried Breyer’s Butter Almond ice cream which was heavenly…and we inhaled the entire container in 15 minutes, forcing us to go to a cycling class and Body pump class right after!)
Nevertheless to feel less guilty I came up with a slightly healthier version of ice cream where I put milk, CHIA SEEDS, chocolate chips, pecans, and vanilla extract in the ice cream maker which churns out a soft, delicious ice cream in under a half hour!
Definitely try this if you can, I know you will love it!

I just started putting chia seeds on my granola in the morning and I love them. The health benefits are amazing and I think they are better than flax seeds. I have contemplated putting them on egg sandwiches in the morning and a couple of ideas and look forward to trying them on overnight oats.

I have actually never tried these glorious seeds yet! I first knew about them from your blog and been wanting to try them. Even if I don’t win, I am going to pick up soon! I always have greek yogurt w/ granola, unsweetened coconut, crushed almonds, 1 tbsp of agave syrup in the mornings and would LOVE to add these seeds to my yogurt! I also have protein shakes after the gym with a big ol’ handful of spinach and would love to try it in those too!

I am a HUGE fan of chia seeds! I first learned about them this year and started off drinking them in water with lime. Since then, I’ve had them in Greek yogurt, on salads, and with banana & peanut butter.

I want to experiment more and try my hand at some protein pancakes with chia seeds this year… and more!

I need an extra punch in my oatmeal to keep me full and help me loose the last 10 lbs I have to loose on my weight loss goal of 25 lbs!

I have chia seeds every day either in oatmeal or in my greek yogurt at lunch. I love those little things!! I especially like when they get all clumpy and gel-like. Sorry, I’m weird.

I would love to try these Australian seeds and compare them to what I’ve been eating b/c I don’t know where they are coming from. I buy them in bulk from a local grocery store.
