Chi-Chi-Chi-Chia for You

December 30, 2011 by Julie 904 Comments

This morning started out on a sweet note with a creamy bowl of overnight oats.

After dinner yesterday I threw Coach’s Oats, chia seeds, strawberry banana Greek yogurt, milk and a heaping spoonful of strawberry preserves into a bowl and let it soak overnight.

(I highly recommend adding fruit preserves to overnight oats! It added the perfect punch of sweetness.)

This morning, I stirred everything up and added a bit more milk and a sliced banana to the oats.

I ate the oats out of a new bowl I got from my family for Christmas. I love the fun design and the depth. Perfect for stirring extra ingredients into overnight oats without worrying about overflow.

Whenever I hear back from readers who have unsuccessfully attempted overnight oats, the complaint is almost always that they were too liquidy. For me, the key to thick overnight oats is the inclusion of chia seeds.

So how about a chance to win some chia seeds of your own?

chia seeds 035

As you may know, I am a FitFluential ambassador and when the company put out a call for ambassadors who were big fans of chia seeds a few weeks ago, I immediately responded saying I looove the nutritious little seeds.

I’ve been eating chia seeds since the beginning of the year when I first tried them and haven’t looked back.

They’re great in cinnamon chia seed granola…

On top of pancakes, bagels, English muffins topped with peanut butter…

Incorporated into smoothies or even in chocolate chia seed pudding…

A couple of weeks ago, I was sent a handful of chia seeds from The Chia Co, an Australian company that specializes in sustainable farming and the development of chia seeds and chia products.

The company boasts that their chia seeds are:

  • Gluten Free
  • Halal certified
  • Kosher certified
  • Excellent source of Omega 3
  • High Source of Protein
  • Rich in Antioxidants
  • Excellent source of dietary fiber
  • Endorsed by the Coeliac Society Inc (Australia)
  • Endorsed by the National Heart Foundation (Australia)
  • Grown naturally / GMO Free

And now you can win chia seeds of your own from The Chia Co! (Note: This giveaway is not sponsored or endorsed by The Chia Co or Fitfluential and is simply coming from me and the samples they sent to me that I’ve chosen to pass along.)

Two winners will receive two bags of the chia seeds and a chia tank top!

To enter this giveaway, simply comment below telling me why you want to try chia seeds for the first time or tell me about your favorite way to enjoy chia seeds if you’re already a fan.

I will randomly select two winners tomorrow morning.

Good luck!

I'd love to connect with you! I am always so grateful when you let me know you tried one of my recipes or workouts and tag me in your photos or updates. Thank you so much!!!

My favorite way is definitely in overnight oats. I can’t ever find them though so I rarely get them. My grocery stores don’t carry the stuff and GNC charges way to much. 😛

I tried chia seeds for the first time just over a month ago and love them! I’ve started to replace my flax meal in hot cereals, granola and muffins with chia seeds. I love the nutritional punch!

LOVE CHIA SEEDS! We use them in just about anything breakfast related, especially smoothies! And it’s the perfect add-in when I make “ice cream” since I don’t use actual cream it helps thicken it up. 🙂

Chia seeds are incredible. If you blend up some blueberries and add them in and then put in some chia seeds and over night them, blamo you have some super delicious low sugar (no refined sugars) and high delicious blueberry jam!!! It is really delicious, and if you are cleansing it is the perfect sweet treat.

Submitted to soon! The trick is to let the seeds sit in the liquid for just a bit before cooking/blending/eating. Really fills your tummy up and provides your body with great nutrition that’s hard to get from anything else!

First I had to get past the whole Chia pet connection, but once I tried them I thought they were great. I like them in overnight oats and in smoothies to give a little texture. Can’t wait to try them in more things – plus a little goes a long way so the cost isn’t too bad considering that a bag will last a while.

I actually just saw an episode of doctor oz a few days ago and chia seeds were one of the hot topics of the day. Something I didn’t know that he showed on the show was that chia seeds expand to several times their size when in your stomach, leaving you feeling full. After watching that and knowing you use them in several of your delicious breakfasts, I was on a mission to find them. But unfortunately, the two stores I went to didn’t sell them 🙁 Anyway, I’m definitely going to get my hands on some and try them!

I love chia seeds!! I was diagnosed with ulcerative colitis a couple months ago and my doc and nutritionist suggested a GF lifestyle and told me chia would help my digestion and pain. I LOVE them. Oats, smoothies, pancakes, the possibilities are endless! I’ve even gotten my family to give them a whirl! Now they’re team chia too 🙂
