Chop It Up

July 11, 2013 by Julie 83 Comments

One of the benefits of hot Florida summers is that they make me crave cold, crisp salads. After teaching water fitness outside today, the thought of anything hot for lunch sounded rather unappealing. Unfortunately the lunch I packed required time in the microwave, so I abandoned my lunch in favor of a giant salad packed with vegetables from Subway.

Subway Chopped Salad

I ordered the club salad – chopped – and loved it! Did you guys know Subway makes chopped salads? I know I am probably way behind the times since I don’t go to Subway very often, but I was super psyched when Ryan and I went to Subway after our visit to the Giraffe Ranch back in May and they chopped my salad.

I adore chopped salads because it’s so much easier taste all of your salad toppings in one bite! Yesss.

After lunch at Subway, I drove home to hang with Sadie and work on blog stuff.

Vizsla

My salad, while delicious, didn’t hold me over very well, so about 30 minutes after I walked in the door, I rounded out my lunch with a handful of almonds and a small bowl of frozen blueberries that I quickly thawed in the microwave and cottage cheese.

almonds cottage cheese and blueberries

Satisfied!

I have to rush off to take a conference call right now, but I’ll be back to chat again in the morning. Enjoy your night, my friends!

Question of the Afternoon

  • What foods do you crave in the summer?

In the summer, I can’t get enough fresh fruit. I’ve been eating two apples a day and lots of strawberries lately, so they’re my current favorites! Summertime also makes me crave grilled veggies, ice cream and smoothies. Yum!

I definitely prefer chopped salads for the same reason! I had no idea Subway made chopped salads. Yours looks impressively good too!

I always crave smoothies, salads, and ice cream during the summer months! Can’t get enough!

I don’t go to subway very often, I knew they had salads but didn’t know they were actually good or that they would chop them for you. Whenever I make salads at home like to chop up all the ingredients so you have a little of everything in each bite. I always eat a lot of melon and berries in the summer!

My fiance and I are really into smoothies. We got a Vitamix as an engagement gift, and make a huge batch of smoothie to share every morning. Banana mango is my favorite (though banana strawberry – with locally picked and frozen berries – is also really delicious.)

I’m OBSESSED with Subway chopped salads. I have the same problem too though… it doesn’t hold me too long unless I pair it with a healthy snack of some sort. I usually switch between sub to salad, depending on hungry I am that day!

Sadie’s expression is the cutest. I haven’t actually ever had any of Subway’s salads–they always look like a salad that I could make on my own at home, so I opt out. I definitely crave fruit during the summer, although that could also be because there’s always so much fresh fruit in our house during the summer! I go through an entire watermelon per week…by myself. And sometimes in less than a week. Haha.

Next time you are in jacksonville, you have got to try TossGreen! They seriously have the best chopped salads. You pick your green and add-ins. I always do kale/spinach for my greens and then mix it up with toppings: beets, quinoa, sun-dried tomatoes, hearts of palm and all sorts of goodies. Then, they dump it out, chop it up and mix in your dressing before putting it all back in your bowl. It all gets perfectly tossed and perfectly mixed! Even my hubs, who normally doesn’t consider a salad a meal, loves their salads! They have an avocado dressing that is delicious as well. It is located on Southside blvd in the Tinseltown area near the Town Center Mall. Hope you enjoy!

First of all chopped salads are awesome!!!! Nothing worse than bug pieces of salad hanging out of your mouth like a horse, if that’s gonna happen let it be cheese or spaghetti! I’ve been craving cold breakfast like chia pudding, Greek yogurt, cereal etc because its like 115 out (NBD) then for lunch after all morning in the cold hospital I’m ready for some warm food… But then I eat outside and wish for salad… Isn’t life full of the funniest dilemmas?????

My problem is portion control with cravings. In hot weather I crave cold salads, watermelon/grapes/ALL fruits and yogurt and things like rice cakes/toast/crackers, etc….my issue is that I eat is ALL in like one sitting (literally will eat 10+ fruit servings per day…another problem is that these foods (the dairy, the raw veggies, the fruit consumption) also mess with my tummy…so i’m in a “pickle” . I feel bad for eating so much of these things (like its’ freaky, especially before bed, eep!) , on the other hand i’m whiny and say “but I crave it” (and don’t even try to fight it 🙁

Oh and I always crave (and daily eat!!!) entire blocks of chocolate and pints of ice cream…oh yes, entire pints! Now, if I were actually active like you, this might not be as big a problem…in the meantime, I’m just “doing it”….stressing out about my many downfalls will only end up killing me 🙂
